Last year, my brother and I went to Miami for a vacation. Some of my friends who had been there before said 【1】 was a wonderful holiday destination. Before we went, we had planned for months. When the day came, we were ready.

After our plane landed, we went to the hotel. We had made our reservation six months 2 (early), but the man at the front desk said there had been a mistake. We 3 (tell)that our rooms hadn’t been reserved for that week, 4for the week after. I didn’t understand 5 this would happen and my credit card had already been charged 6 the reservation. What’s worse, the hotel had been fully booked. When we were wondering what to do, the manager came out. She was 7 (surprise) helpful. She apologized for the mistake and gave us a spare VIP room on 8 top floor. We had never stayed in such an amazing room, and we weren’t charged extra.

The next day, my brother and I went to the beach 9 we watched some people play volleyball. We got a little 【10 (sunburn),but the day had been so relaxing that we didn’t mind.

【1】it

2earlier

3were told

4but

5why

6for

7surprisingly

8the

9where/on which

【10sunburnt/sunburned

故用were told。

故用for

9where/on which考查定语从句。

【10sunburnt/sunburned考查非谓语动词。

The tough economy is bringing new shoppers to the secondhand market. Plato’s Closet in Chaelotte, NC is a private company, which mainly buys and sells used clothes. While Charlotte has outstanding secondhand stores offering high-end and graceful brands for women, most of their stock applies to adults. Plato’s closet targets teens and those in their 20s. Plato’s Closet , with stores in Matthews and the university area, sells clothes and accessories(装饰品) that are currently popular at about one third the retail prices(零售价).

The two hottest brands, for buying and selling, are Hollister and Abercrombie &Fitch. Even though the offerings tend to be suitable for young people, there are a variety of shoppers at Plato’s Closet of varying ages. Women in their 30s, 40s, and older could easily find a purse, jacket or piece of jewelry they like.

If you are selling

Unlike higher-end resale stores which usually work on consignment(寄售),Plato’s Closet buys on the spot.

Items can be gently used, but must be in very good condition.

Finding summer jobs for teenagers has not always been easy, but now you no longer have to worry about what your kid can do to earn their own money. Recently I found some different sites online that offer information about what kids can do. Below is some of that information, along with questions to think about to help you come up with your own ideas.

Ideas for summer work:

●Parks and Recreation Programs.

●Babysitting (当临时保姆) during the day of school.

The easiest way for you to find ways for your child to make money is to think about others’ inconveniences (不方便). Think of things you need done, or would like to have done, and what you would consider paying for these things to get done. Once you have some ideas, you can sit down with your child and talk to them about what they would be interested in doing. Then once you have an idea of what they want to do you can help them come up with fair prices.

Preferably you would want to only have your child working with people you know and trust, or in the least bit you could have your child pick a partner. That way with each of them carrying cell phones, even those without service can call 911, they will be much safer.

Yesterday I read an article about a eating competition to be holding next month. I'd like to have a try. I'm always hungry, and I'm a bigger eater. Sometimes I eat more than I want to, just to amaze my friends. Last week, I tell my friend Jeff I was so hungry that I could eat a whole large pizzas. Jeff said that was possible. I said, If you buy it, and I'll eat it. And I did! However, the harmful effects of overeating make I a little bit nervous. I never know what overeating can cause holes in one's stomach. So competitive eating might be my sport, but I think I'll check with my doctor before I sign up compete.
