¡¾´ð°¸¡¿Dear readers,

In early 2020, an outbreak of COVID-19 occurred in Wuhan. Now, COVID-19 is not only appearing in China, but also in many countries and regions of the world. Such a severe epidemic has not only killed people, but also led people to believe rumors of food shortages so much so that people go to supermarkets to snap up rice and hoard it.

Such rumors bring negative sides to the society. The spread of rumors will not only cause social panic and chaos, but also make people lose confidence and courage to fight against the epidemic.

At this particular time, we should have faith in the ability of government to solve problems, especially livelihood issues. Meanwhile, we should trust the medical workers on the front lines of the epidemic, whose expertise has given us a new understanding of the virus and boosted our confidence in defeating it. As an individual, we should encourage people not to believe and spread rumors, and actively influence our families and friends.

As many Chinese say, ¡°come on China¡±.

Yours,

Li Hua

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿ As individuals age, many will experience decreased memory abilities.¡¾1¡¿Some signs include forgetting phone numbers, misplacing car keys, and struggling with name recall. This decline is associated with a routine that leaves parts of the brain unused. Memory exercises can help keep typically unused parts of the brain active and improve memory abilities.

¡¾2¡¿It can be something as simple as going to a new restaurant for lunch, cooking something completely new, or visiting a friend in the next town for the weekend. New sensory stimulation can help refresh memory.

Another easy way to improve memory is to use one's non-dominant hand to do simple tasks. For example, if one is right-handed, the left hand could be used to brush teeth or comb hair.¡¾3¡¿But in fact, a part of the brain is being used that is rarely put to work, making the brain stronger.

¡¾4¡¿This might include studying a new language or researching how to do a math problem. And it does not have to be something traditionally thought of as brain stimulating. Learning a new craft or sport may also activate the brain in new ways.

Not only can mind exercises improve memory, but physical exercise can as well. Studies show that exercise can improve memory abilities as it increases blood circulation and therefore more oxygen can reach the brain.¡¾5¡¿

A.This may feel slow and ineffective.

B.Short-term memory is often the first to suffer.

C.Talking with others can also improve one's memory.

D.Even as little as 30 minutes of walking each day can help.

E.Memory exercises can also be accomplished by learning new things.

F.One type of memory exercise involves changing one's regular routine.

G.Being alone can cause stress and depression£¬which affects memory negatively.

Earthquakes can be destructive. Unfortunately, we don¡¯t have a ¡¾1¡¿(rely) way to predict. But technologies can still help us under such a desperate situation. China is building the world¡¯s largest earthquake alert system and it¡¯s¡¾2¡¿(possible) the most advanced. Engineers¡¾3¡¿(set) up over 15000 sensors£¨´«¸ÐÆ÷£© nationwide and writing them into a web. Once¡¾4¡¿ earthquake happens, the sensors can send electrical pulses to the control center and then ordinary people¡¯s smart phones.

The signal travels at almost light speed and faster than the earthquake shaking,¡¾5¡¿(give) local people a little time to prepare, and the system can usually send messages to people in less than two seconds. It¡¯s life-saving. The system,¡¾6¡¿can be the most advanced in many ways, will be the largest earthquake observation network in the world, not only detecting the movement of the¡¾7¡¿(continent) but also calculating the possible impact¡¾8¡¿an earthquake. It will automatically warn local people, making¡¾9¡¿(it) much faster than human observation. The system, overseen by China¡¯s Ministry of Emergency Management, is set ¡¾10¡¿(complete) in 2022.

My grandpa worked as a carpenter, who has devoted all his energy for carpentry for almost sixty years. Several years before, he began to make wooden models of farm tools. On National Day when I returned back and visited him with my parents, he showed me that he had created. He hopes he could expose people to the traditionally way of farming. Now every day, he prepares raw material in the yard, measures them, and polishes them. I¡¯ve also picked up carpentry as hobby of mine. Now I am able to make a model by me. And I am determined to make it know to more.

I have made all my final preparations for my first solo concert tour in China. It will be an incredible honor spreading my love for Hawaiian music and culture to new audiences in Shanghai. I will be performing solo concerts at symphony halls in ¡¾1¡¿ city.

I have an ¡¾2¡¿ (extreme) interesting family connection to Shanghai. My grandfather ¡¾3¡¿(raise) there because his great grandfather moved to China in the mid-19th century ¡¾4¡¿ (establish) the first hospital and university of Western medicine in China. It was called Saint Luke¡¯s. The campus ¡¾5¡¿ (be) still there in Shanghai and has been preserved from the time it was built in the 1880s. My grandfather moved back ¡¾6¡¿ the U. S. after high school and made his way to Harvard. He and his brother moved to Hawaii and both were ¡¾7¡¿ (doctor) on Oahu Maui and the Big Island. This tour will be very ¡¾8¡¿ (mean) for my family.

I will visit the university campus while in Shanghai. I feel like a family "history detective¡± ¡¾9¡¿ (explore) my family roots. The concerts will be a great way for me to share my ¡°hello¡± with the people of China and introduce Hawaiian music to many ¡¾10¡¿ have not heard it. I will be doing TV and radio interviews and performances along the way. Let the adventure begin!
