    Ahwelah，Cook Expedition
    I joined Frederick Cook's expedition to the North Pole in August 1907．I am an Inuit and I know how to survive in the Arctic．We set off from Greenland in February 1908．By April we were close to the North Pole．It was hard；the ice was broken and we had to push the sleds up and down the walls of ice．However on 21April，Dr．Cook calculated our location with his scientific instruments and told us we were there．We were very happy，because we were really at the top of the world!
    Matthew，Peary Expedition
    When Robert Peary set out for the North Pole in 1908，I was proud to be chosen to join him．We set out from New York City on a hot day in July 1908，accompanied by sleds and dogs pulling our supplies．When we got to the North Pole in April 1909，we checked carefully with our scientific instruments．It was a great moment when we found we had made it．We hugged each other and jumped up and down with happiness．I knew this was true，because I was there．
    Oscar，Amundsen Expedition
    The great explorer Norwegian，Ronald Amundsen，was definitely the first to fly over the North Pole．In 1926，I was lucky to join him on an airship，the Norge，which flew across the North Pole on its way from Spitsbergen to Alaska．Amundsen took careful readings indicated by the instruments as we crossed the great white ocean，and when we reached the North Pole we all cheered and had a drink to celebrate．

    20．Boston school officials plan to notify parents at four schools that their children may have drunk water tainted with lead from drinking fountains that were mistakenly turned on before water testing was complete．
    The fountains were active for as little as several hours to as long as three weeks．
    Boston Public Schools recently launched a 300，000project to repair and upgrade plumbing（管道系统） so that fountain water could be restored at six buildings that had been using bottled water．
    The facilities were selected for the pilot program because prior tests indicated lead levels that were below state and federal standards，school officials said．
    However，testing conducted in recent months found elevated lead levels in at least one fountain at four of the six schools，namely Mather Elementary School in Dorchester，Lee K-8School in Dorchester，Curley K-8School in Jamaica Plain，Another Course to College in Brighton．Lead contamination was also found at a fifth school，but officials don't believe anyone drank from the fountains．
    School officials had previously told The Globe that none of the new fountains had been turned on since being installed．But they had learned in recent days that the fountains had been mistakenly activated，they said Wednesday．
    Officials blamed a lack of communication between employees of the school district's facilities department and a third-party contractor．
    The fountains are now shut off in all six schools．Bottled water is being provided there instead，officials said．
    The four schools where children may have drunk water with high lead levels are：Mather Elementary School，Lee K-8School，Curley K-8School，and Another Course to College．
    "BPS is communicating with families at the schools about these circumstances and their options if they are concerned about potential exposure to lead in drinking water，"said a statement from Boston Public Schools．
    School officials said automated phone calls were to be made to families at the affected schools Thursday afternoon and that letters would also be mailed home．
    In the meantime，school officials continue to investigate why water from the new fountains has high lead levels，a process that may cause the project to run over budget．
    Officials had hoped the new fountains would produce long-term savings by allowing the schools to drop their costly reliance on bottled water．Most Boston schools use bottled water because of past lead concerns．The city expects to spend $415，000this school year alone to provide bottled water．
    Four other schools that were still using tap water were recently found to have high lead levels in fountains．The affected fountains were shut off and replaced with bottled water．
    Children are particularly vulnerable when it comes to lead．Exposure has been linked to IQ deficits，shortened attention spans，behavioral problems，hearing damage，stunted growth，and lowered birth weight．
    Officials said they were also contacting parents at Trotter Innovation School in Dorchester and Boston Green Academy in Brighton，the two other schools in the fountain restoration project．
    At Trotter，high lead levels were found，but officials believe no one drank from the fountains．At Boston Green Academy all six fountains tested had lead levels below the state's standards．

    18．Cigarette ends are everywhere-littering our streets and beaches-and for decades they've been thought of as"unrecyclable"．But a New Jersey based company，called TerraCycle，has taken on the challenge，and has come up with a way to recycle millions of cigarette ends and turn them into industrial plastic products．Its aim is to recycle things that people normally consider impossible to reuse．
    Obviously it would be even better for the environment if everyone just stopped smoking，but the statistics show that although there has been an increase in anti-smoking ads and messaging，between 2000 and 2014，global sales of cigarettes increased by 8 percent，and a whole lot of those cigarette ends are ending up as trash．Since most of our litter eventually ends up in waterways，cigarette ends can surely pollute the surrounding environment．"It only takes a single cigarette end to pollute a liter of water，"TerraCycle founder，Tom Szaky，said．"Animals can also mistake littered cigarette ends for food．"
    So how do you go about turning all those poisonous ends into something useful？TerraCycle does this by first breaking them down into separate parts．They mix the remaining materials，such as the tobacco and the paper，with other kinds of rubbish，and use it on non-agricultural land，such as golf courses．The filters （过滤嘴） are a little harder．To recycle these，TerraCycle first makes them clean and cuts them into small pieces，and then combines them with other recycled materials，making them into liquid for industrial plastic products．
    They're now also expanding their recycling offerings to the rest of the 80 percent of household waste that currently can't be recycled，such as chocolate packaging，pens，and mobile phones．The goal is to use the latest research to find a way to stop so much waste ending up in landfill （垃圾填埋），and then get companies to provide money for the process．And so far，it's working．

    Last weekend，my classmate and I went on a camping trip near the river．It was not long distance，so we chose to get here by bike．
    We started with early in the morning．On the way，we talked about that we saw around．It takes about half an hour to get to the place．On arriving，some girls sat down，had her breakfast and listened to the birds sings．Some admired the river while others drew pictures．My friends and I found a quietly place and went fishing．To our surprise，we got much fishes．
