When a joke does hit the right(44)J,however,women derive more pleasure from it.Scientists asked ten men and ten women to look at dozens of black and white cartoons and rate them on a"funniness scale".During the process they underwent sophisticated scans that mapped which parts of their brain were lighting up and timed how long it took them to(45)I to a joke. The women tended to use(46)D parts of their brain.Professor Allan Reiss said:"We found greater activity in the parts of their brain in women, showing women are processing stimuli that(47)Alanguage areas of the brain."
The(48)B of a"feelgood"brain region also revealed that men and women have different attitudes to humour.Experts said:"Women appeared to have less expectation of a reward. So they were more pleased about it."The funnier the cartoon, the more the women's parts of their brain lit up.This was not the case for men.The women took(49)H longer than the men to react to jokes that were funny-but were quicker to spot the"truth".

Recently, the increasing popularity of shared bikes has made our lives more convenient. However,my classmates and I often noticedsome shared bikesplaced messily everywhere. We felt upsetand decided to make a change to the uncivilizedbehavior.
First,we had a heated discussion about the problem at our class meeting. We shared our ideas and came up with a great plan. After making full preparations,we startedto take action.
On Saturday morning,we gathered outside the subway station near our school.Firstly,we began with those messy shared bikesthere and tried to put themin order.People passing by all appreciated what we did.Seeing the bikes in rows on the pavement,we really felt excited. Then,in order to encourage people's civilized behavior, weput upa poster saying"PLEASE BE CIVILIZED WHILE USING A SHARED BIKE".Meanwhile, some of us helped to give out leaflets.Of course,we drew much attention from the passers-by.Hopefully our action would make a difference.

12.Canadian scientists have found a method to help aging people get less forgetful by improving their cognitive(认知)abilities through well-designed training.Everyone experiences some degree of memory loss and cognitive decline as they get older. The decline usually becomes noticeable after 50,when people may find it slightly more difficult to focus on tasks, organize everyday jobs and remember how to do things in the right order.
A team of psychologists in Toronto created a strategy of cognitive training to help people preserve these abilities."Our primary emphasis was on improving the use of general strategic abilities because they are particularly weak to the aging process,"Dr.Donald Stuss, director of the study, said in a press release. The team examined 49 healthy older adults with normal cognitive decline. All of the participants were between the ages of 71 and 87.Over the course of 12 weeks, psychologists taught them methods to improve their strategic abilities.Afterwards, researchers saw a 15 to 40 percent improvement in the memories of all participants."Over a period of six months their improvement not only maintained, but increased,"said Dr.Gordon Winocur, coordinator of the study. The 12-week course was broken up into three four-week sections, focusing on a different skill involved in strategic abilities:memory, goal management and psychosocial function.
The memory training emphasized how to preserve and recover information, while goal management focused on methods to lower the chance of memory slips.Psychosocial training was aimed at increasing the participants'confidence in their mental abilities.
"We wanted to develop a cognitive training program that would produce improvement over a relatively short period of time,so participants could benefit more on that while they're still functional and slow down the rate of decline,"said Winocur."If we can work with people in the early stages of cognitive decline, then we can slow down the rate of this decline and help them maintain a higher level of function for a longer period of time."
