【题目】Give people a chance before you judge them because you really never know what’s going on beneath the surface. I am always reminded that judging a person by what others say or my first impression is usually wrong.

It’s so easy to make assumptions (臆想)and expectations about someone, just to find out they were completely false. The shy girl turns out to be one of the funniest girls I’ve ever met; the mean girl is actually very sensitive and loving; the cocky guy is unsure of himself, etc.

I hope there is a world where we stop judging a person by what they wear, their hairstyle, their job, their car; we simply love and accept them for who they are. Someone may have untidy hair because they over slept, or their clothes don’t match because their house burned down and lost everything. All I’m saying is, “can we focus more on what’s going on inside a person rather than the outside?”

There are so many people who seem like everything is just fine on the outside, but the inside is angry or hurting. They don’t know how to just be themselves or they’re afraid to because they may be seen as the “crazy” or “strange” persons.

I truly believe everything begins with ourselves. Before we can really stop judging others by the outside, we must stop judging ourselves. We must know how to treat ourselves first. Let’s stop getting in our own way and accept ourselves and others as we are.

【1】The underlined word “cocky” in Paragraph 2 probably means______.

A. lovely B. clever C. proud D. stupid

2When we judge a person, we should pay more attention to _______.

A. what he wears B. what he does or has

C. our first feelings and thoughts D. what’s going on inside him

3What’s the best title of the passage?

A. Don’t judge a book by its cover B. Judge a person by his outside.

C. Learn to just be yourselves. D. Accept what you are.

【题目】The city of Rome has passed a new law to prevent cruelty to animals. All goldfish bowls are no longer allowed and dog owners must walk their dogs.

This comes after a national law was passed to give prison sentences to people who desert (抛弃)cats or dogs.

“The civilization of a city can be measured by this,” said Monica Carina, the councilor behind the new law.

The newspaper reported that round bowls don’t give enough oxygen for fish and may make them go blind.

“Rome has tried to protect fish more than anywhere else in the world. It stands out for recognizing that fish are interesting animals that deserve over respect and pity every bit as much as dogs and cats and other animals,” said Karin Robertson, director of the People for the Ethical treatment of Animals.

Last year a law was passed in Italy that gives people who desert pets big fines and prison sentences. Since then local governments have added their own animal protection rules.

The northern city of Turin passed a law in April to give pet owners fines of up to $598 if they do not walk their dogs three times a day.

The new law in Rome also says that owners mustn’t leave their dogs in hot cars or cut their dogs’ tail to make them look lovelier. The law also gives legal recognition to the “cat ladies” who feed homeless cats. The cats live all over the city from ancient ruins to modern office car parks.

【1】The new law passed in Rome will _________.

A. guarantee(保证)better conditions for goldfish

B. help improve fishing environment

C. stop people from catching goldfish

D. prevent keeping goldfish at home

【2】People in Rome believe that the civilization of a city can be judged by _________.

A. exchanges with other cities

B. Protection of ancient ruins

C. recognition of animal lovers

D. people’s awareness of animal protection

【3】People may break the law in Turin if they _____________.

A. keep their dogs or cats in cars

B. shut their dogs home all day long

C. raise their cats near ancient ruins

D. feed homeless animals in car parks

【题目】In the US and Britain, the slogan around colleges was “Save water. Shower with a friend.” Now, Wuhan University has come up with another system for the campus bathhouse. It charges students for the amount of time in a shower. Before entering the bathhouse, students pay for the amount of time they want in the shower with cash or their student ID card. The clock starts ticking the minute the tape is turned on. It pauses when a button is pressed for soap. An integrated circuit(IC) card reader at each tap shows the time. No money, no water. The benefits of the new system can be seen with the old system, which charged 1 Yuan for each person regardless of time in the shower. The university used about 320 tones of water daily under the old system, but only 160 tons now.

Many students use the new system but opinions on it are divided. Some students say it is bad because bathing had become a sort of race. Many people using it for the first time are not sure how long they need to shower. Some might be embarrassed if their time is up and they’re still covered in soap. They have to ask the bathhouse worker to help them buy extra time.

“It’s a flaw in the system that you can not buy extra time on the ID card,” said Ren, a freshman in Wuhan University. The university is also considering some students’ suggestions that they be allowed to pay after they’ve finished the shower. Not surprisingly, some are complaining about losing the hour shower. But many students say the move helps them develop a water-saving sense.

Without the time limits, most students tended to shower for 30 to an hour in the bathhouse.

Some even used the hot water to wash their clothes. “In my experience, 10-20 minutes is enough,” said Dai Zhihua, a third-year student who usually takes 8 minutes.

A similar system has been installed in other universities. Shanghai Normal University introduced it at its Fengxiang Campus in September. The bathing fee there is 0.2 Yuan per minute. One male student responded by setting a record with a two-minute shower.

【1】According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?

A. Students pay for the amount of time they want in the shower.

B. The clock times all through while the student is bathing except when the bather paused for soap.

C. If money runs out, there will be no water.

D. Having finished bathing, the student has to pay for it.

【2】The underline word flaw (Paragraph3) most probably means______.

A. perfection B. advantage C. pity D. fault

【3】Since the new system has performed, ______ of water can be saved.

A. a quarter B. one third C. one half D. two thirds

【4】It can be inferred from the passage that______.

A. the new operation can solve the water crisis.

B. The new operation can raise students’ environmental awareness.

C. a similar operation has been set in other universities.

D. The university has saved a lot of water by using the new system.

【】In which column can you find this passage?

A. People. B. Society

C. Campus Life. D. Lifestyle.
