Do You Have the Time? In English, this question has two different meanings. The first one is “Do you know what time it is?” While commonly, this is less frequently used than the simpler question with the same meaning “What time is it?” The other is “Do you have the time (e.g.to do this or that)?” This is a very commonly asked question, whether in American, British, or Australian English. I think the response “I don't have the time” is most commonly used year after year. _1.
Think about how often you (and I) have used this as an explanation of why we couldn't do something, take on a new task, help someone, visit someone, etc. Sometimes it's a statement of fact, and sometimes it's just an excuse. 2. However, deep down we each have a pretty clear idea of the difference. In practical terms, the lack of available time seems to be and often is a true reason for why we cannot take something on. 3. “I just don't have the time” is too often an escape. Once we get to a certain age, when we are generally considered to be grown?ups, we are expected to have developed time management skills. In many instances, “I don't have the time” has the same meaning as “I am not willing to make the time”. Sure, we're all busy, but in the end, it's a matter of which is more important.
4. It doesn't grow on trees or fall from the sky like raindrops. You make the time as well as most of the related decisions about what is important. 5. If you don't decide on the use of your time, the decision will be taken away from you. It's really up to us to decide on how to balance and manage time, and that's a challenge.
A.No one gives you the time.
B.After all, it's so convenient as an excuse.
C.The key is what criteria you rely on to make decisions.
D.The distinction here between them is blurry (模糊不清的) and subjective.
E.Be aware it's the world's most common excuse, whether you speak it out or not.
F.But it does mean we need to develop a clear approach to time management.
G.Actually if we try to rearrange our time, or make a sacrifice, we can make it.

Kate Hashimoto was picking up a few groceries at the Upper West Side Food Emporium when she ran into a friend. “Hey Kate, do you like wraps? Here’s a chicken wrap,’’ her pal said. “But be careful, it’s kind of wet.” They weren’t in the food store. They were in front of the store, digging through three overflowing trash bins.
Hashimoto Dumpster-dives(拾荒) for all her food, doesn’t use toilet paper or do laundry, and hasn’t bought makeups in 10 years. She doesn’t have to live this way — she’s an employed CPA(注册会计师). “I’ve always been money-saving, but it was when I was fired that I became extreme,” Hashimoto explained.“No job is guaranteed, so I live as if I could be fired at any time.”
Manhattan, she said, is a gold mine for dumpster divers.“Consumers in wealthy areas expect their products to be perfect, so upscale stores throw out a lot of items that are still good.“New York can be the most expensive place to live, but it can also be the least expensive if you know how to work the system.”
Hashimoto let the reporter of a newspaper spend a day with her learning how to work the system. She lives in Harlem, where she bought a studio in 2010 and paid it off in nine months, but walks down to the Upper West Side three times a week for good, free food. Her other money-saving methods include using soap to wash herself after using the toilet, taking surveys online to earn gift cards, participating in medical trials, testing products for free samples, cutting her own hair, washing her clothes while she showers, and running to work to avoid using subway. “I was very angry about the latest round of subway fare rises,” she said.
Hashimoto does have her limits. Her furniture is a collection of found free gifts— but she won’t take an old mattress for fear of bedbugs, and sleeps instead on used yoga mats. And she won’t stay in a relationship with a boyfriend for free meals.“I’ve been in a relationship where I stayed because I was getting free gifts, but I got out of it,” she says. “It’s better to be single and dumpster-diving than to be with someone you can’t stand.”
1.The author mentions Kate’s friend at the beginning to ______.
A. show there are too many dumpster divers
B. introduce the topic of the text
C. show they have the same lifestyle
D. show the close relationship between them
2.The underlined word “upscale”(in Para.3) is closest in meaning to_______.
A. large B. high-class C. faraway D. comfortable
3.How does the author develop the fourth paragraph?
A. Offering the sufferings of Kate.
B. Making comparisons.
B. Discussing the high living cost in New York.
D. Providing details of Kate’s daily life.

When I was sixteen years old, I made my first visit to the United States. It wasn’t the first time I had been abroad. Like most English children I learned French at school. When thinking about placing a human being in space, one of the most important questions was how to design special clothing needed to protect a person from the dangers of the space environment. The cold of space will freeze skin in a short time. The fierce heat of the sun can cause serious burns. The lack of atmosphere can cause gases in the body to expand(扩大) and even burst. With no oxygen to breathe, a human being will die in only a few moments. Radiation from the sun is another risk in space. So is damage from small pieces of rock and objects like meteoroids (陨石).
In 1933, an American flyer, Wiley Post, designed one of the first successful devices to protect a pilot at extreme heights. It was a large device that looked like a can surrounded the pilot's head. Astronauts in the American space agency (NASA) flew the first American space flights in the early 1960s. The clothing was similar to that invented by Wiley Post.
Today, astronauts wear very different protective clothing. It lets them move, do useful tasks, and stay outside their spacecraft in comfort and safety for several hours. The spacesuit is called the shuttle extravehicular mobility unit or EMU. It was designed to endure longer and to permit more movement than earlier spacesuits.
The EMU has a number of parts that an astronaut can link together by using only one hand, which makes it possible for each astronaut to select the parts that fit correctly.
Nowadays, NASA scientists are also considering the kind of spacesuits that would be needed for exploration on the planet Mars. Because of the gravity on Mars, spacesuits may have to be designed to be lighter than suits used in orbit or on the moon. The equipment may also have to protect astronauts from dust carried in the winds on Mars. And, they must be easy to repair and keep clean during a longer flight to and from the red planet.
1.Which of the following is NOT mentioned about the dangers of space environment?
A. Lack of oxygen. B. Fierce heat from the sun.
C. Gases in the body. D. Radiation from the sun.
2.Which of the following statements is true, according to this passage?
A. Wiley Post designed the first protective clothing for astronauts.
B. Astronauts in earlier spacesuits had difficulty in moving, doing useful tasks and so on.
C. EMU has many parts that can be linked together by using two hands.
D. Special spacesuits have been used for exploration of the planet Mars.
3.The underlined word “endure” means _______.
A. provide B. move C. last D. live
4.The best title of the passage might be ______.
A. Space exploration
B. Astronauts’ flights
C. The Advantages of Spacesuits
D. The Development of Spacesuits
