    Culture shock produces a feeling of disorientation （晕头转向），which may be homesickness，imagined illness，or even paranoia （妄想症）．When people feel the disorientation of culture shock，they sometimes feel like staying inside all the time．They want to protect themselves from the unfamiliar environment．They want to create an escape within their room to give themselves a sense of security．This escape does solve the problem of culture shock for the short term，but it does nothing to familiarize the person more with the culture．Familiarity and experience are the long term ways to settle the problem of culture shock．

    11．Australia's koalas could die out within 30years unless immediate action is taken to stop the losing in population，according to researchers．They say development，climate change and bushfires have all combined to reduce the number of wild koalas sharply．
    The Australian Koala Foundation said a recent survey showed the population could have dropped by more than half in the past six years．The number of koalas was once estimated to be more than 100，000，but now is as few as 43，000．
    The foundation collected field data from 1，800sites and 80，000trees to calculate the numbers．In one area in northern Queensland estimated to have 20，000koalas a decade ago，a team of eight people could not find a single animal in four days of searching．
    The foundation said besides problems caused by cutting down forests，hotter and drier conditions because of global warming had reduced the nutritional value of their main food，eucalyptus （桉树） leaves，leading to poor nutrition for them．Koalas，which live in the forests in Australia's east and south，are very picky about what types of the leaves they eat．
    Foundation chief Deborah Tabart said："The koalas are missing everywhere we look．It's really no tree，no me．If you keep cutting down trees you don't have any koalas．"

    8．Children and adolescents who watch a lot of television are more likely to have antisocial and criminal behavior when they become adults，according to a new University of Otago，New Zealand，study published online in the journal Pediatrics．The study followed a group of around 1，000children born in the New Zealand city of Dunedin in 1972-1973．Every two years between the ages of 5and 15，they were asked how much television they watched．Those who watched more television were more likely to have a criminal conviction and were also more likely to have antisocial personality traits in adulthood．
    The study found that the risk of having a criminal behavior by early adulthood increased by about 30% with every hour that children spent watching TV on an average weeknight．
    The study also found that watching more television in childhood was associated，in adulthood，with aggressive personality，an increased tendency to experience negative emotions，and an increased risk of antisocial personality disorder； a psychiatric disorder characterised by persistent patterns of aggressive and antisocial behavior．
    The researchers found that the relationship between TV viewing and antisocial behavior was not explained by socio-economic status，aggressive or antisocial behavior in early childhood，or parenting factors．
    A study co-author，Lindsay Robertson，says it is not that children who were already antisocial watched more television．"Rather，children who watched a lot of television were likely to go on to manifest antisocial behavior and personality traits．"
    Other studies have suggested a link between television viewing and antisocial behavior，though very few have been able to demonstrate a cause-and-effect sequence．This is the first‘real-life'study that has asked about TV viewing throughout the whole childhood period，and has looked at a range of antisocial outcomes in adulthood．As an observational study，it cannot prove that watching too much television caused the antisocial outcomes，but the findings are consistent with most of the research and provides further evidence that excessive television can have long-term consequences for behavior．
    Antisocial behavior is a major problem for society．While we're not saying that television causes all antisocial behavior，our findings do suggest that reducing TV viewing could go some way towards reducing rates of antisocial behavior in society，"says Associate Professor Hancox．
    The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children should watch no more than 1to 2hours of quality television programming each day．The researchers say their findings support the idea that parents should try to limit their children's television use．

    15．December 6-Canada：For those of you who have been following this story，the third suspect（嫌疑犯）in the Canadian Cat Mutilation（残害）case has been caught．On March 8，after just under a year of searching，the"Find Matt Campaign"received information that would comfort many．Now known as Mattew Kaczorowski，21years old，this cat mutilator was picked up by the police from the streets of Vancouver．
    In May 2001，three young men took a young cat，named"Kensington"after the area of town from where she was taken，from the street to a house．They began to cruelly treat and mutilate her to death，videotaping the attack．Two of the suspects，recognized as 21-year-old Jesse Champlain Power and 24-year-old Anthony Ryan Wennekers，were arrested shortly after the incident．Neither helped the police in an effort to find the third suspect，at the time known only as"Matt．"
    In May 2002，Katie set up the"Find Matt Campaign"，with the goals of raising public awareness（意识）about animal cruelty and having as many eyes as possible look for Matt．
    "I don't think Matt would have been caught had it not been for Katie Woodward's information，"said Detective Gordon Scott，one of the arresting officers．
    Kaczorowski faces the charges of animal cruelty，theft under﹩5，000 and possession of property taken by crime，but one charge remains absent：that of animal cruelty．According to Canadian law，this kind of crime must be charged within six months．The case is now before the Courts．
