Many people consider their pets members of the family and are very sad when they die, but what if you could clone your dog, cat or bird?
A scientist in New Orleans, who has proved his ability to clone other animals, is now offering the possibility to pet owners here in Wisconsin.
Scientists have not been able to clone dogs, cats or other pets, but if and when the time comes, several companies will be ready and able to do the job.
The question is: Are you ready to clone your pet? Brett Reggio is betting on it. He is working on his Ph D at Louisiana State University. He's successfully cloned a goat five times and wants to try the process on family pets. So he started a business called Lazaron. “What Lazaron provides is the first step in the cloning process.” He said.“It's for curing and storing the fiberglass cells that will be used for cloning.”
“Your first reaction is yeah! I think I'd like that,” said Donna Schacht, a pet owner.
“I don't believe you can ever replace a special love,” pet owner Paulette Callation said.
Most pet owners will tell you freezing your pet's DNA in hopes of one day cloning it is a personal decision.
Scientists say that cloning your own pet doesn't mean that the offspring will have the same intelligence, temperament or other qualities that your pet has.

阅读理解:阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项.
Americans love pets. Many pet owners treat these lovely friends as part of the family. Sometimes they spice up (增加情趣) their pets' lives with entertaining videos and amusing toys. If they have an eye for fashion, pet owners can dress their pets in stylish clothes. For special occasions, they can use perfume to make their dogs smell well.
Leading a dog's life in America isn't such a bad thing. Many grocery stores sell various pet foods to owners eager to please their pets. In Houston, Texas, dogs can have their own dinner delivered to their homes. Well-to-do dogs can attend doggy day-care centers while their owners work. Pets can even accompany their owners on vacation. Some hotels are beginning to accommodate both man and beast.
Beneath all these things, there lies a basic American belief that pets have a right to be treated well. At least 75 animal welfare organizations exist in America. They provide care and adoption services for homeless animals. Veterinarians (兽医) give animals an unbelievable care for an unbelievable price. People can even buy health insurance for their pets. And when it is time to say good-bye, owners can bury their pets in a respectable cemetery (墓地).
The average American enjoys having pets around, and for good reason. Researchers have discovered that interaction with animals lowers a person's blood pressure. Dogs can offer protection from thieves and unwelcome visitors. Cats can help rid the home of unwanted pests. Pets even encourage social relationships: they give their owners an appearance of friendliness, and they provide a good topic of conversation.
Pets are as basic to American culture as hot dogs or apple pie. To Americans, pets are not just property, but part of the family. After all, pets are “people”, too.

Since it was published in 1818, Frankenstein, a classic horror story, has been in print in many languages. The monster from the novel by Mary Shelley is the result of man's uncontrolled desire to create and apply his knowledge.
The novel features Victor Frankenstein, a student who explores the secrets of life in his laboratory. Fearing that he has created a monster, Victor Frankenstein wants to stop but too late. The monster kills Victor Frankenstein's young brother and causes the murder to be blamed on an innocent girl. Victor and the monster meet in the frozen mountains. The monster asks Victor to create a female monster, promising to afterwards leave with her for the wilds. Victor begins the work and discovers the monster has followed him to watch the work. Victor regrets his decision to create a second monster and worries that together they will begin a species of monster. Victor destroys the monster's bride. The monster soon takes revenge (复仇) on Victor by killing his best friend, his father and finally, his bride, Elizabeth. Victor pursues (追赶) the monster across many places. On the point of death, Victor meets a ship and tells his story to the captain whose letters and diaries are then to form this novel. Victor Frankenstein's last words are, "Farewell, Walton! Avoid ambition, even if it is only the obviously innocent one of distinguishing yourself in science and discoveries."
Frankenstein’s conflicted ambition is with us always. And the Monster stands at our window, reminding us to take care of our creations against experimenting with things we don’t understand.
