How are you doing recently? It has been a month since you left China for your hometown and we all miss you very much.

Is there anything wrong? We are eager to know what has happened to your family and wondering when you will return to our school. By the way, don’t worry about your study because we are all willing to help you to make up for your subjects once you are left behind. I believe you can catch up with us very soon. 【题目】阅读短文,并按题目要求用英语回答问题。

I received a private message on Facebook It began harmlessly enough: "Hey, girl. Wanted to invite you to join my next challenge group ——we'll be focusing on fitting in 30 minutes of exercise and balanced nutrition.”

It was all becoming too much. Facebook was running my life, not me.

But what killed Facebook for me was when I posted a photo, and five minutes later my son asked me how many "likes" it had got. His question was a wake-up call.

"Likes" arc signs of acceptance and approval. I had forgotten that acceptance and approval need to come from within and had unknowingly set him a bad example.

Before Facebook, surfing the internet was an occasional distraction and I spent a lot more time reading books and magazines. I checked in with friends through texts, emails and phone calls.

To recreate the simplicity of those days and set a healthier example for my son, I deactivated my Facebook account.

I'd been in the habit of checking Facebook many times a day, so I had to come up with some new habits. I carried a novel and a crossword puzzle book around with me. I rediscovered knitting(针织). I started taking yoga classes.

I started to remember a few things. My body is fine just the way it is. I have friends who will help me out when I'm in trouble, and I will help them out. I do my best to be a good mother, and our son is happy and healthy. We are very lucky to be able to afford two vacations a year.

I stopped looking at the world through my cellphone. I felt pleasant at the moment.

The break left me feeling better about myself, my family, my home and my life.

After a few weeks, I returned to Facebook. Now I look at the photos of my friends, kids growing up and treasure how social media allows me to keep in touch with family for and wide. I look in on a daily basis, but no longer with the desire constantly to post updates.

It is not an addiction any more.

1When the author's son asked her how many “likes" it had got, what's the author's reaction to the question? no more than 10 words

2The underlined word “deactivate" in Paragraph 6 mean in English? (I word)

3What did the author do to change her life?no more than 5 words

4What did the author think of the break from Facebook? (no more than 15 words)

5What do you think is the best way to use social media? Please explain.(no more than 25 words)

【题目】 If you are crazy about paintings, you shouldn’t miss the following four famous masterpieces which have stood the test of time.

The Arnolfini Portrait

Jan van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait, an oil painting on wood produced in 1434, in which a man and a woman hold hands with a window behind him and a bed behind her, is undoubtedly one of the masterpieces in the National Gallery, London. This painting is as visually interesting as it is famed. It is also an informative document on fifteenth-century society, through van Eyck’s heavy use of symbolism—while husbands went out to engage in business, wives concerned themselves with domestic duties.

The Starry Night

Vincent van Gogh painted The Starry Night, oil on canvas(帆布), a moderately abstract landscape painting of an expressive night sky over a small hillside village, during his 12-month stay at the mental hospital near Saint-Rémy -de-Provence, France between 1889 and 1890. When the Museum of Modern Art in New York City purchased the painting from a private collector in 1941, it was not well known, but it has since become one of van Gogh’s most famous works.

The Harvesters

The Harvesters is an oil painting on wood completed by Pieter Bruegel the Elder in 1565. It depicts the harvest time which most commonly occurred within the months of August and September. Nicolaes Jonghelinck, a merchant banker and art collector from Antwerp, commissioned this painting. The painting has been at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City since 1919.

Guernica

Guernica, a large black-and-white oil painting, was painted by the Cubist Spanish painter, Pablo Picasso in 1937. The title “Guernica” refers to the city that was bombed by Nazi planes during the Spanish Civil War. The painting depicts the horrors of war and as a result, has come to be an anti-war symbol and a reminder of the tragedies of war. Today, the painting is housed at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofaí in Madrid.

1Which of the following paintings was produced earliest?

A.The Arnolfini PortraitB.The Starry Night.

C.The Harvesters.D.Guernica.

2What do we know about the painting The Starry Night?

A.It was painted on wood in oil.

B.It wasn’t widely recognized before 1941.

C.It described the painter’s life in hospital.

D.It was given away to the museum by a collector.

3Who created the painting describing the tragedy of war?

A.Pieter Bruegel the Elder.B.Vincent van Gogh.

C.Jan van Eyck.D.Pablo Picasso.

【题目】 I thought I was pretty good at teaching myself—until I read Tara Westover’s Educated. Her ability to learn on her own blows my right out of the water. I was thrilled to sit down with her recently to talk about the book.

Tara was raised in a Mormon survivalist home in rural Idaho. Her dad had very non mainstream views about the government. He believed doomsday was coming and that the family should interact with the health and education systems as little as possible. As a result, she didn’t step foot in a classroom until she was 17, and major medical crises went untreated. (Her mother suffered a brain injury in a car accident and never fully recovered).

Because Tara and her six siblings worked at their father’s junkyard from a young age, none of them received any kind of proper homeschooling. She had to teach herself algebra and self-studied for the ACT, which she did well enough on to gain admission to Brigham Young University. Eventually, she earned her doctorate in intellectual history from Cambridge University.

Educated is an amazing story and I get why it’s spent so much time on the top of the New York Times bestseller list. It reminded me in some ways of the Netflix documentary Wild. Wild Country, which I recently watched. Both explore people who remove themselves from society because they have these beliefs and knowledge that they think make them more enlightened. Their belief systems benefit from their separateness, and you’re forced to be either in or out.

But unlike Wild, Wild Country—which revels in the strangeness of its subjects. Tara is never cruel, even when she’s writing about some of her father’s most fringe beliefs. It’s clear that her whole family, including her mom and dad, is energetic and talented. Whatever their ideas are, they pursue them.

Tara’s process of self-discovery is beautifully captured in Educated. It’s the kind of book that I think everyone will enjoy, no matter what genre you usually pick up.

1What does the author think of Tara’s self-teaching?

A.unbelievableB.not badC.doubtableD.impossible

2Which of the following about Tara’s family is true?

A.There are altogether six children in the family.

B.Tara’s dad often holds mainstream beliefs about the government.

C.They are a Mormon family living in the urban area of Idaho.

D.Tara did not receive formal education until 17.

3Why does the author mention Wild, Wild Country in the text?

A.To highlight that Educated is an amazing story worth reading.

B.To analyze the content of it.

C.To show that Educated is one the top of The New York Times bestseller list.

D.To introduce a documentary to the reader.

4What genre does Educated belong to?

A.novelB.science fictionC.biographyD.news report
