Students¡¯ Union

Dear Principal£¬
We are writing to say out what we are thinking about the preparation for the entrance examination in senior three.
In order to guarantee the teaching quality in the course of the general revision, we senior three students at least have 9 periods each day apart from morning and evening classes. Besides, we have got a lot of homework to do, which makes us exhausted. According to the real situation of us students, we think that it is necessary to reduce the amount of periods and leave us time to think by ourselves. Meanwhile, give us more practice on those important and confusing points to cultivate our ability to deal with problems. Furthermore, reduce daily homework to assure the quality and give us less criticism but more encouragement, which we think will be beneficial to us all.
We do hope that you can take our opinions into consideration. Thanks.
Yours

I am a 19-year-old girl named Gina. When I was 17, I gave blood for the first time. It was a little scary because I don¡¯t like needles and I am afraid of looking at my own blood.
The blood drive was in the high school gym. I determined to help because I had read the poster about how much one pint(Æ·ÍÑ£º¼ÆÁ¿µ¥Î») of blood could do for someone else.
After signing a form, I lay in the chair. When I waited for the nurse to get to me, one girl I didn¡¯t know well noticed my nervousness and sat next to me, telling me what a good thing we were doing for someone else. It took a long time to get a pint. But somehow, I suddenly felt like an adult when my first blood donation was finished. I had overcome my fear in order to do something selfless that would benefit others.
Now ,I still donate blood. The Red Cross calls and invites me to blood drives, and I always try to go. It¡¯s not scary any more. It¡¯s something you do for others, without getting anything in return.

An Internet war of words is violent between China¡¯s younger generations---the 1980s and the 1990s---commonly known as the ¡°Strawberries¡± and the ¡°Jellies¡±. It¡¯s about values and identity, who¡¯s patriotic and responsible, who¡¯s spoiled.
The Strawberries see the Jellies as ¡°self-centered and irresponsible, materialistic, spoiled kids.¡± while the Jellies see the Strawberries as ¡°out-of-date.¡±
Retired English teacher Paul Wang has taught both the 1980s and 1990s students and worries more about kids the latter. ¡°I worry more about the 1990s, because kids from the 1980s, although naughty and rebellious, would still listen to teachers, if not fear teachers. They have different opinions and would argue with me, but there was still respect.¡± Kids today are different, says Wang. ¡°They know your salary, they know that you won¡¯t criticize them and many of them don¡¯t respect us any more.¡±
Since the earthquake on May 12th, media have shown a greater appreciation of the 1980s generation. ¡° We used to feel disappointed about the 1980s, but they showed unbelievable courage and energy after the earthquake and proved they are patriotic and responsible enough to support this nation. However, the 1990s generation is listless. They don¡¯t know what they want because they have everything. They don¡¯t care about anything else except themselves.¡±
