【答案】Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Li Hua, an exchange student from China. I’m writing to complain about the quality of the mobile phone which I bought from your store.
It unexpectedly went wrong a few days after I bought it. The screen turned out to be black while I was taking photos. I tried to restart it according to the instructions, but it still failed to work. Therefore, I’m sure there is something wrong with the phone. I am hoping that you direct me to a store where I may get it repaired or change it for a new one within the next 3 days. Since your store has gained a good reputation for customer satisfaction, I am confident you will process my complaint at your earlier convenience.
Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours Sincerely,
Li Hua

【题目】If you've not heard that the decade-old princess-culture is causing problems—especially if you're a parent—you must be actively working to avoid it.
The latest study adding fuel to the fire comes out of Brigham Young University and finds that the Disney princess obsession can be harmful to girls.
“I think parents think that the Disney princess culture is safe. That’s the word I hear time and time again—it’s safe.” Lead study author Sarah M. Coyne of the Mormon institution in Utah noted in a press release. “But if we’re fully jumping in here and really embracing (accepting) it, parents should really consider the long-term impact of the princess culture."
So, what’s the problem this time around? Same as always, confirmed the study, published in the journal Child Development, which involved the assessment of 198 preschoolers: Lots of engagement with princess culture (whether through moves or toys) can lead to gender-stereotypical(性别定性) behavior as well as self-critical body image.
The strict gender stereotypes can hold girls back. “They feel like they can’t do some things,” Coyne said, “They’re not as confident that they can do well in math and science. They don’t like getting dirty, so they’re less likely to try and experiment with things.”
On the other hand, “Disney princesses represent some of the first examples of exposure to the thin ideal,” Coyne said. “As women, we get it our whole lives, and it really does start at the Disney princess level, at age 3 and 4.”
So, what should a parent do? Try his or her best to avoid all princesses for the entire of a girl's childhood? I'd say, have moderation in all things, have your kids involved in all sorts of activities, and just have princesses be one of many, many things that they like to do and engage with." Coyne suggested. “This study has changed the way I talk to my daughter, the things I focus on, and it's been really good for me as a parent to learn from this study,” Coyne said. “I usually can't say that my research findings have such a personal impact on my life."

【题目】English words don’t stay the same. People need new words for new ideas and new inventions. Different words come into use, or older words are used in a new way.
English can change by borrowing words from other languages. For example, the word “tomato” was borrowed from Mexico, and “tea” came from China. 【题目】Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving Day is always celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. It is the most traditional(传统的)of American holidays. The first Thanksgiving was held in Massachusetts in 1621. After a year of hard work, the Pilgrim colonists wanted to give thanks to God for their first harvest. They invited their Indian friends to join them in a big feast. Today the holiday is still celebrated as a day for giving thanks. It is a day of family get-together and it is common to invite friends to share the meal. In some large cities, there are carnival parades (花车游行) for children. In other cities, there are important football games that are played on Thanksgiving Day.
In my family, we always go to my grandmother’s house on Thanksgiving Day. All my aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces gather for a family homecoming. We always invite some friends to join us. Everyone is glad to see everyone else and there is a very busy talk about everything we know. The women soon disappear into the kitchen to help my grandmother prepare the dinner. The men, meanwhile, settle down to watch a football game on television or to discuss business or polities. If the weather is fine enough, some of the men go outside to play ball with the children. At about four o'clock we all sit down to dinner. My grandfather gives thanks for all that we have received from God and then he starts to cut the turkey. We always have the traditional dinner of stuffed turkey, cranberry sauce, apple cider, sweet potatoes, chestnuts, and pumpkin pie. After dinner, no one can move and we all sit around and talk, play word games, or tell jokes until it is time to go home. It is always difficult to leave because Thanksgiving Day is one of the few days of the year when all the families get together.

【题目】Michelle was a student at University of California, Los Angeles. She is here to tell us how she feels about the city.
What were the best things about Los Angeles?
One of my favorite things about Los Angeles is the weather. I hate the cold and it never really gets that cold there. Plus, most of the time it’s usually sunny, which is good because I love going to the beach during the summer. There’s so much to do at the beach, but my favorite thing in L.A. was having a picnic on the sand with my friends.
What were the worst things about being there?
I disliked having to drive everywhere to get around because the city is so spread out. Los Angeles has a lot of traffic and sometimes it takes a long time to get somewhere close by just because the streets are so crowded. Also, a lot of people complain about the pollution.
Did you have any problems there?
Just the normal problems of living in any city, like watching out for pickpockets (扒手). Some people think Los Angeles has a lot of crime, but I think it’s as safe as any other city. Also, many people think driving is difficult because there is a lot of traffic and road rage (路怒症), but it just takes a little practice and a lot of patience.
What are the people like in Los Angeles?
There are all types of people in Los Angeles since the city is pretty diverse. For the most part, though, most of the people are friendly, calm and relaxed. Some people say that everyone in Los Angeles is beautiful, but I think that’s just a stereotype (模式化的印象).
Would you go back to Los Angeles?
Certainly. Los Angeles is one of my favorite cities in the world. I love the fact that it has all the nightlife and shopping of a big city, but also has access to beaches, parks, mountains and other places you can’t usually find in large cities. Between the weather and the beaches and all the fun things to do, it’s a great place to be.
【1】We can learn from the text that Michelle _____.
A. hates the heavy traffic in Los Angeles
B. dislikes the cold weather in Los Angeles
C. thinks Los Angeles is small and crowded
D. enjoys driving everywhere in Los Angeles
【2】What’s Michelle’s impression of the people in Los Angeles?
A. They get angry easily. B. All sorts of people live there.
C. They are patient and amusing. D. Everyone is kind and beautiful.
【3】How does Michelle find Los Angeles?
A. Safe but noisy. B. Relaxing but busy.
C. Polluted and dangerous. D. Diverse and interesting.
