My grandpa has a lifelong friends and they are very close. Unfortunate, one day doctors said Grandpa¡¯s friend had cancer. Grandpa quickly pointed out that there were still time for them to doing the things they had always wanted. Grandpa¡¯s friend had always wanted to tour the world, so Grandpa had suggested they went on a world tour cruise together. At firstly, other friends tried to talk them out of it, and when they explained that it was a lifetime¡¯s ambition, everyone wished them well. The funny thing was that when they came back from a cruise, the doctors announced that Grandpa¡¯s friend had fully recovered his cancer.

Kids with Special Needs

Kids with special needs refer to any kid who might need extra help because of medical, emotional, or learning problems. For example, disabled kids need wheelchairs. They not only need the equipment that helps them get around, but they might need to have ramps(бÆÂ) or elevators available. ¡¾1¡¿________

Kids with an illness would have special needs, too. ¡¾2¡¿________Kids with sight problems might need Braille books to read. Kids with hearing problems might need hearing aids.

__¡¾3¡¿______It might be harder to do normal things¡ªlike learning to read or just getting around school. The good news is that parents, doctors, nurses, teachers, and others can help. The goal is to help kids be as independent as possible.

Other kids also can be a big help. How? By being a friend. Kids who use a wheelchair or have lots of health problems want friends just as you do. But meeting people and making friends can be difficult. ¡¾4¡¿________

Be sure to tell a teacher if you see someone being bullied(ÆÛÎê) or teased.

_¡¾5¡¿_______ You might carry the person¡¯s books or do something simple, such as asking him or her to join you and your friends at lunch. It¡¯s also important not to be ¡°overly helpful¡± when no help is needed. Why? Because just like you, kids with special needs like to be as independent as they can be.

Being friendly to kids with special needs is one of the best ways to be helpful. As you get to know, they may help you understand what it¡¯s like to be in their shoes. And you¡¯ll be helping fill a very special need, one that everybody has¡ªthe need for good friends.

A.Some kids might laugh at or make fun of them.

B.They also might need to get a special bus to school.

C.Life can be challenging for a kid with special needs.

D.It¡¯s good manners to try to offer help to kids with special needs.

E.Also try to be helpful if you know someone with special needs.

F.Kids with special needs usually live a harder life than normal kids.

G.They might need medicine or other help as they go about their daily activities.

There was once a farmer who had a fine olive orchard. He was very hardworking, and the farm always prospered(ÕôÕôÈÕÉÏ) under his care. But he knew that his three sons did not like the farm work, and were eager to reach the goal at a single leap.

When the farmer felt that his time had come to die, he called the three sons to him and said, ¡°My sons, there is a pot of gold hidden in the olive orchard. Dig for it, if you wish it.¡± After the farmer was dead, the sons went to work to find the pot of gold.¡± Since they did not know where the hiding-place was, they agreed to begin in a line, at one end of the orchard, and to dig until one of them should find the money.

They dug until they had turned up the soil from one end of the orchard to the other, round the tree-roots and between them. But no pot of gold was to be found. It seemed as if someone must have stolen it, or as if the farmer had been wandering in his wits. The three sons were bitterly disappointed to have all their work for nothing. The next olive season, the olive trees in the orchard bore more fruit than they had ever given; when it was sold, it gave the sons a whole pot of gold.

And when they saw how much money had come from the orchard, they suddenly understood what the wise father had meant when he said, ¡°There is gold hidden in the orchard. Dig for it, if you wish.¡±

This morning, our school held a fire drill. We were listening to the teacher attentively in the math class while we heard the fire alarm from the speaker on the wall. The teachers stopped teaching immediately and instructing us to exit the classroom in order. When it got into the passageway, we found we were surrounded by heavy smoke somewhere. It was choking and our tears ran down. We bent down, covered our mouths with handkerchiefs, and ran downstairs rapid into the open on the playground, just as we had taught before.

When we come back to our classroom, we gave a summary of this fire drill. I think the fire disasters often happen. So we should know the tips to escape from a fire for case of emergency.

Taking good notes is a time-saving skill that will help you to become a better student in several ways. ¡¾1¡¿

Second, your notes are excellent materials to refer to (²Î¿¼£¬²éÔÄ) when you are studying for a test. Third, note-taking offers variety to your study time and helps you to hold your interest.

You will want to take notes during classroom discussions and while reading a textbook or doing research for a report. ¡¾2¡¿ Whenever or however you take notes, keep in mind that note-taking is a selective(¾«ÌôϸѡµÄ) process. ¡¾3¡¿

The following methods may work best for you.

¡ñ Read the text quickly to find the main facts and ideas in it.

¡ñ Carefully read the text and watch for words that can show main points and supporting facts.

¡ñ Write your notes in your own words.

¡ñ¡¾4¡¿

¡ñ Note any questions or ideas you may have about what was said or written.

As you take notes, you may want to use your own shorthand(ËÙ¼Ç). When you do, be sure that you understand your symbols and that you use them all the time. ¡¾5¡¿

A. Use words , not complete sentences.

B. There are three practical note-taking methods.

C. You must write your notes on separate paper.

D. Otherwise(·ñÔò), you may not be able to read your notes later.

E. You will also want to develop your own method for taking notes.

F. That means you must first decide what is important enough to include in your notes.

G. First, the simple act of writing something down makes it easier for you to understand and remember it.

I used to feel sleepy in class and I couldn¡¯t focus to my lessons. As a result, not only did I do badly in our studies, but also my health went from bad to worse, for that I was often scolded by my parents. I decide to change my situation. Half a year ago, followed my teacher¡¯s advice, I began to join some sports activities. I now play the basketball for 45 minutes every day. My health has improved, but at the same time, I¡¯ve made lots of progresses in my studies. Physical exercise has changed me into an entire new person.

Last week, when we learned the new word ¡°slovenly¡±, we asked to make a sentence

with it. I volunteered to do it by saying ¡°My deskmate is a slovenly girl who clothes never fit her.¡± Hearing this, a whole class burst into laughter and my deskmate face turned red. After class, I learned up from the teacher that my deskmate would have dropped out of school if she hadn¡¯t been helped with others. My mindless words must have hurt him deeply. Not until then do I realize words could be powerfully in both positive and negative ways. We should avoid hurt others if our words are not encouraging.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Two students started quarreling at school. One student shouted dirty words at the other, and a fight began. What can be done to stop fights like this at school? In some schools, the disputants sit down with peer mediators(ͬÁäµ÷½âÕß). Peer mediators are students with special training in this kind of problems.

Peer mediators help the disputants to talk in a friendly way. Here are some of the ways they use:

1) Put what you think clearly but don¡¯t say anything to hurt the other. Begin with ¡°I feel¡¡± instead of ¡°You always¡¡±

2) Listen carefully to what the other person is saying. Don¡¯t stop the other person¡¯s words.

3) Keep looking at the other person¡¯s eyes when he or she talks.

4) Try to see the other person¡¯s side of the problem.

5) Never put anyone down. Saying things like ¡°You are foolish¡± makes the talk difficult.

6) Try to find a result that makes both people happy.

Peer mediators never decide the result or the winner. They don¡¯t decide who is right and who is wrong. Instead, the disputants sit down with peer mediators(ͬÁäµ÷½âÕß)

¡¾1¡¿The underlined word ¡°disputants¡± refers to the students ________.

¡¾2¡¿Peer mediators¡¯ work is ________.

B£®to find out who starts a quarrel
