A.I mustn'tB.I can'tC.I needn'tD.I won't

7.We're so well educated-but we're useless students who have lost the ability to do anything practical.The only thing we've mastered is consumption.
Large numbers of students have entered higher education in the past 10years,but despite being the most educated generation in history,it seems that we've grown increasingly ignorant when it comes to basic life skills.
Looking back on my first couple of weeks of living in student halls,I consider myself lucky to still be alive.Unfamiliar to fresher's,there are many hidden dangers in the dirty corners of students accommodation.
I have survived a couple of serious boiling egg incidents and lots of cases of food-poisoning,probably from dirty kitchen counters.Although some of my clothes have fallen victim to ironing experimentation,I think I have now finally acquired all the domestic (居家的) skills I missed out in my modem education.
In 2006and 2010,the charming educationist Sir Ken Robinson gave two very amusing talks in which he discussed the importance of creativity in education.Robinson's main viewpoint is that our current education system dislocates people from their natural talents.I would like to go a step further and propose that besides our talents,the system takes away what used to be passed from generation to generation-a working knowledge of basic life skills.
Today's graduates may have earned themselves honor in history,law or economies,but when it comes to simple things like putting up a shelf to hold all their academic books,or fixing a hole in their on-trend clothes,they have to cal for help from a professional handyman or tailor.
Since the invention of the internet,it has never been easier for people to access information,but our highly specialized education has made us more one-sided than ever.
I suggest that we start with the immediate reintroduction of some of the most vital aspects of"domestic science"education, before the current lack leads to serious accidents in student halls.

36.People call us useless students for the reason thatD.
A.what we've learned is beyond consumption
B.we are educated generation
C.we've entered higher education
D.our living skills are so poor
37.Which is NOT the incidents the writer had during the first few weeks in student halls?D
A.He was seriously burnt by boiled eggs.
B.He was accidentally poisoned by food.
C.He damaged his clothes while ironing.
D.He was severely beaten by freshets.
38.According to Robinson's opinion,our current educationB.
A.focuses on the importance if creativity
B.dislocates people from their natural talents
C.has equipped students with basic life skills
D.has followed the tradition properly
39.Why are the graduates poor at basic life skills?B
A.Because they are not interested in them.
B.Because they have little relevant practice.
C.Because they are affected by internet.
D.Because they are easy to be one-sided.
40.The main purpose of writing the passage is thatB.
A.there is no need to introduce"domestic science"
B.it's time we did something to current education
C.more attention should be paid to natural science
D.accidents should be prevented in student halls.

4.Is Positive Thinking Powerful?
The﹩11billion self-help industry is built on the idea that you should turn negative thoughts like"I never do anything right"into positive ones like"I can succeed".But was the positive thinking advocate Norman Vincent Peale right?Is there power in positive thinking?
Researchers in Canada just published a study in Psychological Science that says trying to get people to think more positively can actually have the opposite effect:it can simply stress how unhappy they are.The study's authors,Joanne Wood and John Lee of the University of Waterloo and Elaine Perunovic of the University of New Brunswick,begin by using older research showing that when people get feedback (反馈) which they believe is overly positive,they actually feel worse,not better.If you tell your friend who is not very clever that he has the potential of an Einstein,you're just underlining his faults.In the 1990s,a team including psychologist Joel Cooper of Princeton conducted an experiment.The participants were asked to write essays opposing financial support for the disabled,expressing little sympathy for them.When these participants were later praised for their sympathy,they felt even worse about what they had written.
In this experiment,Wood,Lee and Perunovic measured 68students'self-respect.The participants were then asked to write down their thoughts and feelings for four minutes.Every 15seconds,one group of students heard a bell.When it rang,they were supposed to tell themselves,"I am lovable."Those with low self-respect didn't feel better after the forced self-approval.In fact,their feelings turned significantly worse than those of members of the control group,who weren't urged to think positive thoughts.
The study provides support for newer forms for psychotherapy (心理治疗) that urge people to accept their negative thoughts and feelings rather than fight them.In the fighting,we not only often fail but can make things worse.Meditation (静思) techniques,on the contrary,can teach people to realize their shortcomings from a larger,more realistic perspective.Call it the power of negative thinking.

67.What is the finding of the Canadian researchers?B
A.There can be no simple solutions to psychological problems.
B.Encouraging positive thinking may do harm to people.
C.The power of positive thinking is limited.

68.The underlined part in Paragraph 2probably meansC.
A.you are pointing out the mistakes he has made

C.you are stressing the fact that he is not intelligent
D.you are not trying to make him feel better about his faults
69.What do we learn from the experiment of Wood,Lee and Perunovic?D
A.Self-approval can bring a positive change to one's feelings.
B.People with low self-respect seldom write down their true feelings.
C.It is important for people to continually improve their self-respect.
D.Forcing people to think positive thoughts may lower their self-respect.
70.It can be learned from the last paragraph thatC.
A.people can avoid making mistakes through meditation
B.different people tend to have different ways of thinking

8.Women might have a higher position at work, but at home their careers tend to give way to their husband's job, with women most likely to quit when both are working long hours, according to a U.S.study.
Researcher Youngjoo Cha,from Cornell University, found that working women with a husband who worked 50 hours or more a week found themselves still doing most of the housework and the care giving and were more likely to end up quitting their jobs.
An analysis of 8,484 professional workers and 17,648 nonprofessionals from dual-earner (双职工) families showed that if women had a husband who worked 60 hours or more per week it increased the woman's possibility of quitting her paid job by 42 percent.Cha said the possibility of quitting increased to 51 percent for professional women whose husbands work 60 hours or more per week, and for professional mothers the possibility they would quit their jobs jumped 112 percent.
However,it did not significantly affect a man's possibility of quitting his job if his wife worked 60 hours or more per week, according to the study published in the American Sociological Review in April. For professional men, both parents and non-parents,the effects of a wife working long hours were negligible, according to the study.
"As long work-hours introduce conflict between work and family into many dual-earner families, couples often solve conflict in ways that prioritize husbands'careers,"Cha,who used data from the U.S.Census Bureau, said in a statement."This effect is magnified (突出) among workers in professional and managing occupations, where the criterion of overwork and the culture of looking after children tend to be strongest. The findings suggest that the popularity of overwork may lead many dual-earner couples to return to a traditional family pattern-breadwinning men and homemaking women."
