【题目】 Participation in sports benefits health, encourages self-discipline, and develops character and teamwork. The positive effects of sport are well-known: improved body system and muscular fitness lower risk of obesity and depression, and an increased life quality. 【1】
Here is one-sports addiction. It may sound contradictory, because we usually reserve the word “addiction” for things that are bad for us, such as drug abuse or alcoholism.【2】Caused by the release of “happiness hormones(荷尔蒙)” after exercising, you can feel really “high” and be hooked on this feeling, which, like those produced by illegal drugs and alcohol, can be habit-forming.
Sports addiction is not taken seriously by everyone, though.【3】Sports addiction is, however, real and harmful.
Sport addicts share many symptoms with other sorts of addicts.【4】This is because they don't give them the chance to recover from working out. They have been so addicted to sports that they don't take time to recover from injuries. Chances of heart attacks and passing out increase, so sports addicts can put themselves at serious risk of harm.
【5】They become dependent on training for feeling good, and life away from training becomes dull. They can also develop tolerance to the “high”, and so need more and more exercise to get the same result. And when not exercising, they experience withdrawal effects, depression and anxiety.
A.They harm their bodies.
B.It may lead to physical injuries.
C.“There're worse things to be addicted to,” some people disagree.
D.Meanwhile, sport addicts may suffer withdrawal symptoms as well.
E.But there really is a sense in which you can become addicted to exercise.
F.Apart from physical damage, sport addicts suffer psychological damage too.

故选A。

Dr. Faisal Zawawi, an Otolaryngologist and member of the McGill Auditory Sciences Laboratory, notes that when a person is exposed to loud noises it can cause short-term hearing loss but that under normal circumstances the body typically is able to repair the loss of hearing within 72 hours. However, Zawawi warns that if symptoms are not reversed (倒转) in the first 72 hours the damage could become permanent. Due to findings in previous studies about it, Zawawi says that the team of researchers has suspected that something may stop this repair process; therefore, the team set out to determine if caffeine could be a contributing cause to hearing loss. According to the Medical Daily, the researchers tested what they suspected on female guinea pigs(FGP) (豚鼠).
To perform the test, 24 female guinea pigs were split into three equal groups with each group exposed in different levels to caffeine, and loud noises. The researchers found that the guinea pigs subjected to only sound had their full hearing recovered by day eight. However, the guinea pigs that were subjected to both caffeine and loud noise never fully regained their hearing. Therefore, the researchers concluded that caffeine is a likely contributing cause to permanent hearing loss.
“This research confirms that while a cup of coffee may seem appealing after a long night at a loud concert, drinking caffeine produces more of a risk than benefit when it comes to a person's hearing. Although further research is required to understand the effect on humans, the results are promising," says Zawawi. If the research proves successful, the removal of caffeine from your diet following noise exposure could prevent permanent hearing loss as the body will be more able to repair itself naturally.

【题目】 United States health officials say an estimated 80,000 people died of influenza (流感) and problems resulting from the flu last winter, making it the worst season since 1977. The director for the U.S.Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported the number to The Associated Press. Health experts were expecting the winter of 2017-2018 to be a bad year for flu deaths, but not that.
Doctor William Schaffner is an expert on vaccines, at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. Schaffner noted that 80,000 deaths are nearly twice as much as what health officials once considered a “bad year”.
CDC officials say that between 12,000 and 56,000 Americans die every year from flu-related causes, but they do not have an exact count of how many people die from the flu each year. Influenza is a relatively common disease and not always listed on death records as the official cause of death. While last winter was a bad flu season in the U.S., it was not the worst. The 1918 flu lasted nearly two years. Historians estimate that the disease was to blame for between 500,000 to 700,000 deaths during that period. The exact number is still not known.
One thing that made the 2017-2018 flu season so bad was that the flu virus was strong. Usually the disease kills the very young, the very old or those who are already sick. However, last winter, the flu killed many healthy Americans. Another thing that made the flu season so deadly was that the flu vaccine was not as effective as experts had predicted. Drug makers have made changes to the vaccine. Even though the vaccine did not work well last year, health experts still strongly suggest getting vaccinated.
【1】What can we learn about influenza in the first paragraph?
A.The winter of 2017-2018 saw the deadliest flu in history.
B.Effective cures should be found to deal with influenza.
C.Health experts had assumed flu would be severer.
D.More people died of influenza than expected in the winter of 2017-2018.
【2】How many deaths did the health officials expect in a bad year?
A.80,000.B.40,000.
C.60,000.D.20,000.
【3】Why can't CDC officials give an exact number of deaths from flu?
A.Because flu is always considered as a common disease.
B.Because people usually don't take flu seriously.
C.Because CDC officials are unwilling to count the deaths.
D.Because flu is not always listed on death records.
【4】What do experts recommend people to do in the last paragraph?
A.Change the vaccine.B.Avoid using vaccine.
C.Get vaccinated.D.Do research on vaccine.
