    6．Some people may say a hero is someone older than you，someone you personally know，someone who has done something everyone knows about，etc．I don't think a hero necessarily has to be an older person or a close friend or a family member．My hero is younger than me，but we are related．His name is Marcus．He is my cousin．He isn't necessarily a wise person or someone who does something great every day，but he has taught me to appreciate some of the simple things in life．
    I am now in 11th grade．When I was in 8th grade，Marcus had a brain tumor （脑瘤） which had to be removed．Thankfully the tumor was benign （良性的）．When the doctors removed it Marcus lost his sight．He felt down only once．Ever since then，he has been an extremely happy second-grader．He is very typical of a nine-year-old．He likes to tell jokes，play new games，and he likes to play tricks on people，just like children at his age．I love spending time with him．We go to movies whenever there is a good one and look after him every chance I get．
    I say that Marcus helps to appreciate the simple thing in life．He doesn't have his sight and that causes me to realize how lucky I am to be able to see，to walk，and to talk．I can do everything I need to．If everyone could see how happy and satisfied Marcus is and how much he makes everyone around him happy，then they might just be able to better appreciate the simple things in life．

    18．You may think that sailing is a difficult sport，but it is really not hard to learn it．You do not need to be strong．But you need to be quick．And you need to understand a few basic rules about the wind．
    First，you must ask yourself，"Where is the wind coming from？Is it coming from ahead or behind or from the side？"You must think about this all the time on the boat．The wind direction tells you what to do with the sail．
    Let's start with the wind blowing from the behind．This means the wind and the boat are going in the same direction．Then you must always keep the sail outside the boat．It should be at a 90° angle （角度） to the boat．Then it will catch the wind best．
    If the wind is blowing from the side，it is blowing across the boat．In this case，you must keep the sail half way outside the boat．It should be at a 45° angle to the boat． It needs to be out far enough to catch the wind，but it shouldn't flap （摆动）．It shouldn't look like on a flagpole．If it is flapping，it is probably out too far，and the boat will slow down．
    Sailing into the wind is not possible．If you try，the sail will flap and the boat will stop．You may want to go in that direction．It is possible，but you can't go in a straight line．You must go first in one direction and then in another．This is called tacking．When you are tacking，you must always keep the sail inside the boat．

    15．When you think of tree frogs，heat and rainforests come to mind．While the equatorial regions are home to many tree frogs，including the popular and colorful red-eyed tree frogs，the northeastern United States is home to gray tree frogs．
    If you live in an area with gray tree frogs，you are more likely to hear them than see them．Gray tree frogs will call from up high during the day and well into August； many people mistake their calls for birdcalls．Their color can be different，even with the same tree frog at different times of the day．Younger tree frogs are sometimes green instead of gray．
    If you're trying to find and observe these guys，you might notice that they will call loudly until you get close enough to find their location．Then they will go silent，becoming almost invisible in the leaves．They like to lie close to the foot of trees，but unless they are low down they can't easily be found．
    One tree frog can eat 100 mosquitoes in a moment．Sometimes at night during the chorus，they are a little easier to find as there are many frogs in the water，and they are usually"love drunk"．They can be picked up and will continue to call from your hand．In fact，calling is a big deal for gray tree frogs．It takes a lot of energy，and males will often have to take a night off to recover after spending time in the chorus．Females seem to prefer the long calls to the short ones，and will head in the direction of those calls．
    So next time you hear that"bird"calling from the trees in the summer，take a closer look and listen．You may find tree frogs closer to your homes than you think!
