Most dictionaries will tell you a number of things about a language. There are three important things. These three things are spelling, pronunciation(·¢Òô) and meaning.
First, a dictionary will tell you the spelling of a word. If you are not sure about the spelling of a word, you can try to find the correct spelling in a dictionary. Words are listed in an alphabetical (×Öĸ±íµÄ) order ¡ª¡ª a, b, c and so on. For example, on a dictionary page the "poor" comes before "poverty" and the word "poverty" comes before the "power".
The words are always given in alphabetical order. The second thing, a dictionary will tell you the pronunciation. Most dictionaries give phonetic , or sound alphabet. The phonetic alphabet (Òô±ê) shows pronunciation. The third thing, a dictionary will tell you the meaning of words. You can look up a word and find out what it means. Many words have more than one meaning, and a good dictionary will tell you all of the word¡¯s meanings. For example, in English the common word "get" has over 20 different meanings.
1.Many words have ______.
A. several meanings B. one meaning
C. few meanings D. no meaning
2.A good dictionary will tell you _____.
A. more of word¡¯s pronunciation B. more of the word¡¯s meanings
C. more of grammar D. more of the word¡¯s spelling.
3.Phonetic alphabets are used to show ______.
A. handwritings B. spelling
C. meanings D. pronunciation
4.How many important things will most dictionaries tell you?
A. Four B. Five
C. Three D. Two

How will our continuously growing population affect our way of life, our environment, even our planet? No matter how you look at it, we will face 1.extremely serious problem. By the middle of the 21st century, we 2.(use) up all the oil that drives our cars if at the rate we¡¯re going. Even if scientists develop some new 3.(way)of feeding the human race, the crowded conditions on the earth will make 4.necessary for us to look for open space somewhere else. In 1945,there was a young boy of 14 in a concentration camp £¨¼¯ÖÐÓª£©. He was tall, thin but had a bright smile. Every day, a young girl came by the other side of the fence. She noticed the boy and asked him if he spoke Polish, and he said yes. She then reached in her pocket and gave him her apple. He thanked her and she went on her way. The next day, she came by again, bringing with her another apple which she gave him. Each day, she walked by the outside of the fence, hoping to see him, and when she did, she happily handed him an apple in exchange for conversation.
On day he told her not to come by any more. He was being shipped to another concentration camp. As he walked away with tears running down his face, he wondered if he'd ever see her again. She was the only kind person he had seen across the fence.
He made it out of the concentration camp, and immigrated £¨ÒÆÃñ£©to America. In 1957, his friends had fixed him up on a blind date £¨Ô¼»á£©. He had no idea who the woman was and picked her up, and during the dinner they began talking of Poland at that time. She said she used to see a boy and gave him an apple daily. He asked if this boy was tall, skinny and if he had told her that she couldn't come back because he was leaving. She said yes.
It was her, the young girl who came by every day to give him apples. After 12years, after the war and in another country, they met again. What are the odds (¸ÅÂÊ). He proposedto her on that very night and told her he'd never again let her go. They are still happily married today.
