【题目】It’s official. Denmark—as well as being the world’s best country to live in for women with the second-happiest people and one of the best healthcare systems in Europe—has the most contented babies. Or, at least, the ones who cry the least. According to research published in the Journal of Pediatrics, Danish, German and Japanese babies cry the least, while British, Canadian and Italian babies cry the most.

“I’m not surprised,” Danish parenting expert and co-author of The Danish Way of Parenting Jessica Alexander tells me. “The first year of a child’s life is considered so important in Denmark. Danish parents are much less stressed because they get good maternity and paternity leave (孕产假). The atmosphere is much calmer and, if mothers are getting more time off, that goes hand in hand with less stress, more contact, more routines and less crying.” She pauses before throwing in a final tip: “Oh, and Danish babies sleep outdoors a lot.”

In Denmark, a woman is given four weeks pregnancy leave followed by 52 weeks of paid leave that can be shared between parents. And Alexander thinks there is another important reason why Danish babies cry less: breastfeeding. “It’s just the done thing in Denmark,” she says of a country that has the world’s highest breastfeeding rates. “In other countries, there are continual discussions about whether you should or shouldn’t breastfeed. In Denmark, breastfeeding has never gone out of style. And everyone does it for a year.”

For Iben Sandahl, Alexander’s co-author, it comes down to the Danish attitude to life in general. “We are an honest and pure people,” she tells me. “We are surrounded by social support and are less likely to become angry, sad or annoyed when our babies are crying. And we are good at embracing (拥抱) all kinds of feelings, so we aren’t scared. Instead, we try to connect with the babies when they cry. It’s how babies communicate and it’s about trying to understand it.”

1Which of the following can make a baby cry less?

A. An effective healthcare system.

B. More company from a parent.

C. An energetic busy mother.

D. More chances to meet fellow babies.

2It can be learned from the text that ________.

A. something in the milk from breastfeeding can keep babies happy

B. Demark is second to none in protecting its females’ rights

C. Danish parents’ attitudes to a baby’s first year vary considerably

D. breastfeeding is a common and accepted practice in Denmark

3When babies cry, Danish parents will probably ________.

A. try to figure out what they want

B. put them outdoors for a good sleep

C. seek social support for guidance

D. wait a moment for them to calm down

【答案】

1细节理解题。由第二段“Danish parents are much less stressed because they get good maternity and paternity leave (孕产假). The atmosphere is much calmer and, if mothers are getting more time off, that goes hand in hand with less stress, more contact, more routines and less crying.”(丹麦的家长更强调因为他们得到好的产假和陪产假(孕产假)。

由第三段“And Alexander thinks there is another important reason why Danish babies cry less: breastfeeding. “It’s just the done thing in Denmark,” she says of a country that has the world’s highest breastfeeding rates. “In other countries, there are continual discussions about whether you should or shouldn’t breastfeed. In Denmark, breastfeeding has never gone out of style.”(亚力山大认为丹麦婴儿少哭的另一个重要原因是:母乳喂养。这只是在丹麦做的事情,她说,一个拥有世界上最高的母乳喂养率的国家。在其他国家,有关于是否应该或不应该母乳喂养的持续讨论。在丹麦,母乳喂养是永不过时的风格。)可知,母乳喂养是丹麦常见的和接受的做法。故选D。

3细节理解题。由最后一段“we try to connect with the babies when they cry. It’s how babies communicate and it’s about trying to understand it.”(当婴儿哭的时候,我们试图将自己和孩子连接起来。这是婴儿的交流方式并且尝试理解它。)可知,当孩子哭得时候,丹麦的父母会试着了解孩子想要什么,故选A。

【题目】阅读理解
Easter Island's large and mysterious stone statues(雕像) have made it world famous. These statues, whose likenesses look like humans with huge stone cylinders(柱状物) balancing on their heads like hats, have tourists coming from all over the world. The tourists come to see these works of ancient art carved by the early inhabitants of the island. They come to see the mystery that has puzzled historians for decades.
Easter Island is located in a remote part of the South Pacific Ocean about 2,300 miles west of Chile. Easter Island covers just 45 square miles and its Polynesian name is Rapa Nui.
On Easter Sunday 1722, a Dutch explorer named Jacob Roggeveen was the first European to see Easter Island. The early Polynesians carved the statues within the holes of the volcano using only stone tools. Then they moved these huge statues to various destinations throughout the island. These 600 statues range in height from 10 to 40 feet. Some of them weigh as much as 50 tons. How could the early Polynesians lift hundreds of heavy statues out of the volcano? How did they move them across the island to their various locations? All of these questions, as well as many others, remain unanswered.
The early islanders probably worshiped(崇拜) these eyeless giants until sometime around 1670. In 1680, a war broke out between two groups of islanders. The victors of the war and ancestors of the present inhabitants, broke down many of the statues. In most cases, they broke the necks of the statues.
Now 15 of the statues on Easter Island have been repaired to their original positions on their stone platforms. Even today, using modern tools and machinery, putting up such large statues and balancing cylinders on top of their heads presents a challenging task.

【题目】阅读理解
In the early times, the music industry was terrified of taping, thinking that customers would just copy music,or record from the radio. But that never really happened,at least not enough to cause any real hardship to anyone in the music business.
The same argument arose over technologies like miniDisc and recordable CDs.But the thing that terrified the music industry more than anything else was the arrival of services like Napster, which allowed people to share music over the Internet without costing them anything. The music industry was shocked: it saw people exchanging digital copies that didn't degrade(降级)with each transfer, something that kept tapes from being a huge threat.
But it wasn't the Internet that killed the music industry. In fact, everything is still looking optimistic for many musicians.Taylor Swift has had a good year, and her latest album is likely to be making her very wealthy indeed. And that won't change in all likelihood, not for Swift, and not for those who come after her. There is always going to be public demand for music.
However, the technology will simply destroy the record company. The reason is simple.Record companies are a man in the middle that simply doesn't need to exist anymore. The same way we buy our flights directly did get our shopping online and have things delivered from Amazon instead of going to a local shop.We have always been willing to enjoy cost reductions at the expense of the middleman and the record companies are that kind of middleman.
What does the record industry offer?Well, surprisingly little these days.It used to be the case that record companies would go and find new talents.Of course this still happens, but more likely is that an artist will be discovered by the public through YouTube,or even from friends on Facebook or Twitter.Record companies also used to have an important role in producing the music. But countless artists are making their own way through software or any of the other amazing music development apps, without any help from the record companies.
(1)Why didn't tape copying become a serious danger to the music industry?
A.It was hard to transfer.
B.It was strictly controlled.
C.It didn't save much money.
D.It was replaced by miniDisc and recordable CDs.
(2)The example of Taylor Swift is fused to prove that______.
A.the demand for music is on the increase due to the Internet
B.the sales of albums are badly affected by the Internet
C.the Internet doesn't have a destructive effect on the music industry
D.the musicians make a great fortune via the Internet
(3)The record companies will suffer most because________.
A.they are in the middle way and block the development of the music industry.
B.the record industry can offer nothing to us
C.people prefer to cut down the expenses at the cost of the record companies
D.the public pa more attention to Facebook or Twitter

Students today should do more reading. Indeed, the importance of reading can never be very stressed. First of all, reading, especial out-of-class reading, enrich our mind and broadens our horizons. Through reading, we learn what can't be learnt in our classrooms. Beside, reading is also a way of relaxation. This is very refreshing to read a story before going to bed, or after a day of the study. There were many famous sayings about reading, like “Reading is to the mind that exercise is to the body”. Then how can we develop the habit of reading? In the first place, I believe we should start from an early age, then stick on it and never give up. Secondly, we should read what we are interested and also what is proper for us.
