Oconee County Chief Deputy Lee Weems told USA Today, “We would not have made those charges on our own.” But the owner of the car insisted that Hammons be charged with criminal trespassing(非法入侵). The dog's owner said that she had only been gone five minutes, even though bystanders said it was actually much longer. No matter how long it actually was, the decision to leave her dog locked in a car in 80 degree weather wasn't a bright one on her part.
