    5．I cherish being around people who are totally comfortable with who they are．There always seems to be an aura （光环） of love and acceptance that follows these people around．I think it is because they have figured out one of the biggest secrets to life：the chance of being loved and accepted grows so much when we can truly say we couldn't be more comfortable with ourselves．
    People like being round those who are comfortable with themselves because they are less threatening．We all feel the need to protect ourselves from threats aimed at our insecurities．Insecurities are like open wounds and it hurts when people poke （捅；戳） at  them．It can be exhausting to hang around people who constantly poke at us just to get some kind of external （外界的） recognition through making everyone else feel smaller．
    My favorite thing about people who are comfortable with themselves is that they need no external recognition．They have discovered their worth is，by nature，something that cannot be taken away or added to according to what other people think．Ironically （讽刺地） enough，this ends up providing comfortable people with more external recognition than those who feel they need it most．Because comfortable people's worth comes from within，they see no point in tearing others down．To them，the only sensible way to speak about another is to be positive．
    I guess when you realize your worth comes from within，you might as well build others up rather than tear them down，since their size is of no threat to your sense of self-worth．Plus，it is a lot more fun to speak love to others and watch their eyes light up than it is to hurt someone's feelings for a cheap laugh，anyway．When we become comfortable with ourselves through fully accepting who we are，we can silence the noise our insecurities make in public situations and enjoy the wonderful reality before us．
    The result is a world with fewer insecurities．To me，that sounds like a better world．

    13．Everywhere you look，large quantities of information in the world are pouring．This data flood is already starting to transform business，government，science and everyday life．It has great potential for good-as long as consumers，companies and governments make the right choices about when to restrict the flow of data，and when to encourage it．
    A few industries have led the way in their ability to gather and take advantage of the data．Credit-card companies monitor every purchase and can identify cheats with a high degree of accuracy．Stolen credit cards are more likely to be used to buy hard liquor than wine，for example，because it is easier to overlook．Insurance firms are also good at combining clues to spot doubtful claims：dishonest claims are more likely to be made on a Monday than a Tuesday，since policyholders （保险客户） who stage accidents tend to assemble friends as false witnesses over the weekend．By combining many such rules，it is possible to work out which cards are likeliest to have been stolen，and which claims are untrue．By analyzing"basket data"，supermarkets can make promotions to appeal to particular customers'preferences．The oil industry uses supercomputers to help them before drilling wells．
    But the data flood also poses risks．There are many examples of databases being stolen：disks full of social-security data go missing，laptops loaded with tax records are left in taxis，credit-card numbers are stolen by online purchase．The result can be privacy made public，identity stolen and cheats permitted large space．Rather than owning and controlling their own personal data，they very often find that they have lost control of it．
    The best way to deal with the data flood is to make more data available in the right way，by requiring greater transparency in several areas．First，users should be given greater access to and control over the information held about them，including whom it is shared with．Google allows users to see what information it holds about them，and lets them delete their search histories or modify the targeting of advertising，for example．Second，organizations should be required to disclose details of security breaches，as is already the case in some parts of the world，to encourage bosses to take information security more seriously．Third，organizations should be subject to an annual security check，with the resulting grade made public （though details of any problems exposed would not be）．This would encourage companies to keep their security measures up to date．

    There's another concern that computer-written articles are not actually journalism at all，because what a human news team produces is actually quite complex．A well-written news story puts information in context，offers a voice to each side of an argument and brings the public new knowledge．Although economics and speed of delivery mean readers will probably choose a computer-written story over a carefully shaped article-at least for daily news-I don't think the computers will be writing any in-depth articles for a while yet．

    At that time，I found it amazing-how can prints on a glass identify people？My dad explained that if you were to press your thumb on an inkpad and then on a sheet of white paper you will leave a smudge or print，which no one else in the world can make．The same would be true for each of your fingers．The Chinese were the first to use a fingerprint as a type of identification-it was used as a signature on important documents，although they had no way of independently matching it with the owner．
    Each print is one-of-a-kind and no two people have the same characteristic．Scientists and criminologists （those who study criminal characteristics） determine the differences between fingerprints by a careful study of their curves and not by their general shape or pattern．
    In 1892，an English scientist，Sir Francis Galton，published a book on using fingerprints to solve crimes．At the same time in Argentina，a police researcher Juan Vucetich was also working towards a fingerprint classification system．However，it was in 1896that Sir Edward Henry，then serving as Inspector General of Police in India，developed the print classification system that would eventually be used globally．
    Sir Edward Henry and his assistant Khan Haque discovered that all fingerprints could be systematically classified according to their general curve patterns．He divided them into three classes on the basis of their general pattern：loops （箕形纹），whorls （斗形纹），and arches （弓形纹）．By counting the curve between any two points in the pattern，each of the ten fingers could be classified into a particular group．Taking the group together as a unit you have a complete system of classifying fingerprints．
