阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。
Throughout history man has changed his physical environment in order to improve his way of life. With the tools of technology he has altered(改变)many physical features(特征)of the earth. He has transformed(完全改变) woodlands and prairies(大草原) into farms and made lakes and reservoirs(水库) out of rivers for irrigation purposes or hydroelectric power(发电站). Man has also modified(修改) the face of the earth by draining marshes(排干沼泽) and cutting through mountains to build roads and railways.
However, man's changes to the physical environment have not always had beneficial(有利的)results. Today, pollution of the air and water is an increasing danger to the health of the planet. Each day thousands of tons of gases come out of the exhausts of motor vehicles. Smoke from factories pollutes the air of industrialized areas and the surrounding areas of the countryside. The pollution of water is equally harmful. The whole ecological(生态的) balance of the sea is being changed and industrial wastes have already made many rivers lifeless.
Now environmental protection is more pressing than ever before. As we know, massive destruction(毁灭)of environment has brought about negative effects and even poses a great threat (威胁)to man's existence. Indifference to these problems will mean committing suicide. Therefore, effective measures should be taken and laws passed to conserve(保护) environment. Otherwise, man is certain to suffer from the serious consequences(后果)caused by this lack of care for his living surroundings.

Although human has improved his living standard by altering the features of the earth, which has brought many benefits as well as harms to the environment. As a result, the environmental protection is more pressing than ever before.
The pollution to the earth are made up of at least seven items, such as paper, plastic, glass, clothes and food waste. Some of them can be reduced by reducing the amount of it or by giving them to some other people who need them. Some of them can be changed to be other things which can be used for another purpose.
Students in our school can also take some actions to reduce the pollution against the earth. We may try to save some paper by writing on both sides of the paper and write smaller words. We may try to use things to be reused instead of things to be used only once. In order not to increase food waste, we should get our meal according to how much we can have. For worn-out clothes, we should get them mended and keep wearing them so that we can save our money as well as reduce the resource of waste and pollution.

I found that my way of learning English that I formed from middle school still works today. By listening to tapes and imitating the speakers one can improve his pronunciation within a short time. By reciting classic essays one can enrich their language as well as enlarge their vocabulary. As a non-English major, I like to set aside a certain period of time for English learning every day, usually an hour or at least half an hour. I utilize this precious time by listening to tapes and imitating their content and then reciting the short passages I like. To be frank, “Crazy English” has always been my favorite. This is definitely not intended to flatter. Instead of dividing my attention between too many materials, I’d rather concentrate on one particular resource at a time such as CE, not only because of its abundant content and native English, but also because of the benefits it has brought to me through intensive reading, listening and reciting, I believe that studying English by using these intensive methods will help you to get twice the result with half the effort.
