Gallows humor(黑色幽默)seem like a mistake, or at least in poor taste. But psychologists say that gallows humor can be an important way to relieve stress. “Humor makes you feel in control and it can give you that feeling that everything is okay even when it's not,” says James M. Jones, a psychology professor at the University of Delaware.
Psychologists say that just because you're laughing doesn't mean you’re wasting time. Occasional teasing among colleagues, particularly if it revolves around things associated with the job, can boost creativity, departmental cohesiveness(凝聚力)and performance.
“There are a lot of stressors out there,” says Ed Dunkelblau, a psychologist with the Institute for Emotionally Intelligent Learning in Chicago. “But gallows humor is a way of making difficult things a little less difficult.”
This is true as long as the humor is used for the right purpose. The main point of it should be inspiring people --- not laughing at them. “Anything that would lift morale(士气)in terms of the company would be good humor,” says Thierry Guedj, a professor of business and psychology at Boston University. “Before you say or do anything, think about, ‘How is this helping my employees’ morale?’”
You want to give your employees and co-workers a sense of belonging, so don’t make observations that are aggressive. Most obviously, Dr Guedj says, don’t make comments about people’s physical appearance, or faith. If you have any doubt, it's appropriate, don't go through with it.
Or you can take aim at the one person you know won't be offended(冒犯):Yourself. “If there's going to be a joke or story, it should be you,” Mr. Dunkelblau says. For example, if you're a marketing manager reviewing a failed campaign that you led, begin with a line like, “The guy who gave permission to this deal might just be looking for work next week.”
“People with the ability to laugh at themselves can give other people permission to laugh at themselves too,” Mr. Jones says. “And if you can laugh at yourself, you feel better about yourself.”

When I was six years old, my mom told me that I could find anyone's number in the phone book. I used to look through the phone book for hours trying to find Michael Jordan's phone number. When I couldn't find it, I just dialed seven numbers. When someone answered, I'd ask, "Is that Michael Jordan?" Obviously, I always had the wrong number.

A year later I started playing basketball at my local recreation center. It was very big. I never thought in my wildest dreams that a basketball court could be inside a building. The recreation center had a special smell in it, sort of like hot rubber. I guessed it was from the shoes hitting the floor so fast and hard. The atmosphere on the court was carefree. Our biggest excitement of the day was when we actually made a shot. We celebrated wins over ice cream at a fast food restaurant.

I got good at it, and my confidence grew. I played it all the time until the sixth grade. As soon as junior high school came, I stopped playing basketball and focused on school. When senior high school started, I tried out for the school team and made it. We worked hard. Every week we did 300 push-ups and 300 sit-ups on our own. Our coach encouraged the sit-ups to keep stomach power, because it gave us so much control when we were playing basketball. If we didn't want to do the sit-ups and push-ups, we could practice dribbling (????) and shooting more. It's just us, the ball, the court and the net. But don't take my word for it. See for yourself. After all, I'm just one kid playing the game.

B. That there was a basketball court inside the building.

4.The author's coach encouraged them to do sit-ups because ____.

A. it is the basic preparation to play basketball

B. it is more useful than dribbling and shooting

He has vowed that he will not stop building his business until it is worth £100 million. But hard-working Owens can stop for at least a moment's celebration after making his first £1 million at the age of 16. Owens, who has used a computer since the age of seven, began teaching himself basic web design at the age of ten when he was given his first Mac computer. He used his pocket money to fund his first business project, website Mac Box Bundle at just 14 which has made £700,000 since its establishment in 2008. Mac Box Bundle sells a combination of popular Mac applications which are worth up to $400 together for under just $100 and donates 10 percent of the money to charities.

He then established an advertising company Branchr a year later and worked on the business after school and at weekends. Branchr made a surprising £500,000 in its first year. Branchr works as a platform for website owners to sell advertising.

Owens, from Northampton, currently employs eight staff---all adults---around the UK and America as sales and technical assistants. The young man lives with his parents. His mother who is a company secretary said he was inspired to go into business after observing the huge success achieved by Apple's chief executive officers(首席执行官) Steve Jobs.

Owens said, "I think everyone has business sense in them, and they just need to gain experience and be determined to make it. There is no magical formula(法则) for business, It takes hard work, determination and the drive to do something great. My aim is to become a leading name in the world of Internet and mobile advertising and push myself right to the top of the game.

1.You should watch where your weight accumulates. You can use the waist to hip ratio to find if there is too much fat around the middle.Belly fat is especially dangerous because it release free fatty acids directly to the liver, virtually flooding it with fat.

2.If a particular food is important to you, eat it, but work it off.You should try to learn the art of compromise.

3.At the same time.the three-for-one is relatively simple to use.Fat grams and calories are listed on almost all boxed, canned or packaged foods —— you have only to read the label and follow the rule.A five-year-old patient of mine can do this.

4.Drinking water is basic, and drinking enough of it is necessary.Patients are sometimes surprised that basic things work when they do them consistently.

5.Consume antioxidant foods. They protect the cholesterol(胆固醇), from oxidative damage, which helps prevent damage to blood…vessel walls.

A.More than nine years ago I was 70 pounds overweight and wore a very big dress.I had tried different diets and lost weight only to gain it back. Finally a simple “three-for-one’’ fat rule worked for me:consuming no more than three grams of fat for every 100 calories per serving.Following the rule and eating only foods that contain less than 30 percent fat, I spent eight months getting down to a size seven, and I’ve kept the weight off for nine years.

B.And for foods that aren’t packaged, you rely on what we already know about them.Red meat, as well as dishes made or served with butter, gravy, cream sauce or cheese, are almost never less than 30 percent fat——so you just don’t eat them.On the other hand, some non-packed foods——all fruits and vegetables except avocadoes and olives——always pass the test.So do most fish, but not when fried.

C.I like vegetables, which are rich in vitamins. Most foods containing vitamins C and E(such as sweet potatoes, tomatoes, spinach and broccoli)are low in calories and are known as antioxidants(抗氧化物质).They can help reduce the possibility to develop hardening the arteries(动脉).

D.I gain weight around the belly—what we call abdominal obesity, the worst kind. The tendency seems to be hereditary(遗传的), and it’s common among men. This problem increases the risk of a stroke or heart attack.A guide I use in estimating belly fat is the waist-to-hip ratio or WHR.To find yours, divide the circumference(周围)of you waist by the circumference of you hips.Women with ratios above 0.8 and men with ratios above 1.0 are at increased health risk.

E.My ways of keeping healthy are very simple, and they are among our everyday activities:eating healthy food and doing exercise. In addition, I manage to do those basic things, such as drinking water, sleeping well and eating less fat.Sometimes I do some of the other things I used to do in my life like walking for half an hour a day.

F.Although I've put on ten pounds.I'm healthy and in good shape.I eat food that’s good for me…but I work off Susan’s homemade brownies(巧克力蛋糕), for example. To offset these extra calories, I walk for an hour or more, three times a week…often with Susan. We’re both busy and this is one way we have some quiet time together.Equally important, it permits me to practice dieting fine art of compromise.
