12.I learnedfrom a child(从小时候) that confidence is so important in life.

分析 我从小时候就知道自信在生活中是很重要的.

解答 答案:from a child.

1.In ancient Egypt,a shopkeeper discovered that he could attract customers to his shop simply by making changes to its environment.Modern businesses have been following his lead with more tactics(策略).
One tactic involves where to display the goods.For example,stores place fruits and vegetables in the first section.They know that customers who buy the healthy food first will feel happy so that they will buy more junk food later in their trip.In department stores,the women's section is generally next to the women's cosmetics (化妆品) section.While the shop assistant is away to find the right-size shoes,bored customers are likely to wander over cosmetics they might want to try later.
Besides,businesses see to appeal to customers'senses.Stores notice that the smell of baked goods encourages shopping,so they make their own bread each morning and then fan the bread smell into the store throughout the day.Music sells goods,too.Researchers in Britain found that when French music was played,sales of French wine went up.
When it comes to the selling of houses,businesses also use highly rewarding tactics.They find that customers make decisions in the first few seconds upon walking in the door,and turn it into a business opportunity.A California builder designed the structure of its houses smartly.When entering the house,the customer would see the Pacific Ocean through the windows,and then the pool through an open stairway leading to the lower level.The instant view of water on both levels helped sell these 10millionhouses.

41.Why do stores usually display fruits and vegetables in the first section?
A.To save customers time.B.To show they are high quality foods.
C.To help sell junk food.D.To sell them at discount prices.
42.According to Paragraph 3,which of the following encourages customers to buy?
A.Opening the store early in the morning.
B.Displaying British wines next to French ones.
   C.Inviting customers to play music.
D.Filling the store with the smell of fresh bread.
43.What is the California builder's story intended to prove?
A.The house structure is a key factor customers consider.
B.The more costly the house is,the better it sells.
C.An ocean view is much to the customers'taste.
D.A good first impression increases sales.
44What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To explain how businesses turn people into their customers.

2.Distracted drivers have been crashing cars since the days of Henry Ford.But today,cell phones are one of the biggest causes of car accidents.
David Strayer,a psychologist at the University of Utah,claimed in a recent report that taking your eyes off the road for a few seconds is just as dangerous as driving drunk.Strayer's research found that talking on a cell phone increases the risk of an accident."For comparison purposes,someone who's drunk at a 0.08blood alcohol level has a four-time crash increase.So talking on a cell phone is about the same as driving drunk,"he says."When you're text messaging,the crash risk goes up to eight times."
So,why can't drivers simply stop reaching for their phones?According to Strayer,the answer lies in dopamine,which sends signals to the brain when a"reward"is received.The same chemical also works for addictions such as gambling and drug use.Therefore,while behind the wheel,people are more likely to pick up their device to check it,Strayer told The Seattle Times."When the phone goes off,people feel compelled to look at that phone…because it's actually a part of their social network that's reaching out to them,"Strayer said.
And another reason to stay focused while driving?Science shows the front part of the brain is responsible for multitasking,decision making and planning.When drivers use phones or other electronics while also making decisions on the road,they're using the same part of the brain.
"It's a problem of dual tasks",Strayer explained."Our brain is overloaded,that's really what happens,"Strayer said."You're trying to do two separate things at the same time,and there are issues."
In the US,at least 12states ban the use of handheld cell phones and 41ban text messaging while driving.US lawmakers are currently considering proposals that would ban all use of handheld devices in most situations and prohibit watching video.

28.What can we infer from the first two paragraphs?D
A.Today,cell phones are the biggest cause of car accidents.
B.There are fewer drunk drivers on the road nowadays.
C.Talking on the phone has eight times crash increase.
D.Distracted drivers are as dangerous as drunk drivers.
29.Why did drivers keep checking their phones?C
A.They are eager to know who is calling.
B.They don't want to miss some important calls.
C.They are driven by a chemical called dopamine.
D.They pay much attention to their social network.
30.Why can't we focus if we pick up the phone while driving?D
A.Because we are easily tired when driving a car.
B.Since we tend to focus on the message from the phone.
C.As the two tasks ask for different parts of our brain.
D.Because the dual tasks make our brain overloaded.
31.What does the passage mainly talk about?A
A.Why do the phones cause crashes?
B.How is the use of phones banned?
C.How does the brain react to the calling when driving?
D.Why do people tend to answer the calls in a car?
