20.New research suggests that speaking more than one language may delay different kinds of dementia(痴呆),that is the loss of mental ability.In fact,researchers say,speaking two languages appears to be more important than the level of education in defending against dementias.
A study in India examined the effect of knowing more than one language in delaying the first signs of several dementias.Researchers studied nearly 650people whose average age was 66.240of those studied suffered from Alzheimer's,the most common form of mental decline(下降).391of the subjects spoke two or more languages.Researchers found the dementias began about four-and-a-half years later in those who spoke two languages compared to those who spoke only one language.The level of education had no effect on the age at the first sign of dementia.
Thomas Bak,from the Center of Cognitive Aging at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland,who helped to organize the study,suggests that individuals who speak more than one language train their brains by moving back and forth between different words and expressions.He also believes this effort improves what scientists called executive(执行的) functioning,which often weakens in people with dementias.He states that researchers found there was no extra gain in speaking more than two languages.
Mr Bak says it does not appear important whether you learn another language at a young age or later in life.It's not something that"you missed the boat when you do not do it as a baby."It is something that is still quite useful and powerful when you do it as an adult.

8."There is nothing either good or bad,but thinking makes it so."-William Shakespeare,Hamlet. One of the greatest sources of unhappiness,in my experience,is the difficulty we have in accepting things as they are.
When we see something we don't like,we wish it could be different-we cry out for something better. That may be human nature,or perhaps it's something that's ingrained in our culture.
An example:in my recent article,A Beautiful Method to Find Peace of Mind, quite a few people thought my view was too negative because I said you should expect people to mess up,expect things to go differently than you planned, and that you should accept that willingly.
It's too negative to expect things to go wrong, they said. However,it's only negative if you see it as negative,if you judge it as bad.Instead, you could accept it as the way the world works-as the way things actually are.And try to understand why that is,and embrace it as it is.Accept these things as they are,and try to understand why they're that way.
Does it mean you can never change things and make this world a better place? Not at all.But not because the world is full of misery, but because that's the path you choose to take, because you enjoy that path and the process of change.
Try a different approach:accept, and understand. It might lead to some interesting results.

65.According to the article, people change the world becauseB.
A.the world is full of misery              B.they enjoy the process of change

5.A"talking kitchen"teaches students how to cook French food and speak French at the same time.Researchers at New Castle University in the United Kingdom have developed the French Digital Kitchen.Professor Paul Seed House and Patrick Olivier led the project.Professor House tells us that it works like a satellite navigation(导航) system in a car, which direct us how to get to your destination.
The kitchen equipment and tools use motion sensor(动作传感器) technology. The sensors help a computer guide the students through instructions in French.
This is how the system works. The system can tell whether you've done what you were asked to do or not.For example, the system tells you to take some butter and cut it with a knife. There's a sensor on the package containing the butter so it can tell where the butter's being moved. The sensor in the knife not only knows that the knife is moving, but it also knows what motion the knife is making. So it can know whether the knife is cutting or not.And it doesn't go on to the next step of the program unless you've done what it sense you've done.
Students can ask the computer to repeat the instructions or translate them into English. There are vocabulary lessons before and after the cooking.
Professor House says the French Digital Kitchen turns the process of learning language into a real-life experience."Here you're taking itout of the classroom and you're actually using the language to produce something that you can eat at the end of it.It's very enjoyable."
The system could be available for sale by the end of 2013.Adding the technology to a new kitchen could add about ten to twenty percent to the building costs. The researchers have also been given money to develop programs in six other languages, including English,Italian and Spanish.

12.Eat like a king in the morning,a prince at noon, and a peasant at night. This saying is all about the importance of breakfast. And now scientists can tell us just why it's so important.According to a study carried out at Imperial College London,UK,skipping the first meal of the day not only means you eat more at lunch, but also that your brain wants to find more unhealthy foods.
The study suggests that there is a special part of our brain called the orbitofrontal cortex (眶额皮层),which plays an important part in making choices about what we eat.It is used for identifying the taste of food, especially when skipping breakfast. It is more likely to target high-calorie foods when you're on an empty stomach.
Scientists did an experiment on this.Dr Tony Goldstone from Imperial College London, scanned (扫描) the brains of 21 men and women, around the age of 25.On the first day, these people skipped breakfast before the scans. On the second day, they had cereal (谷物),bread and jam as breakfast. After the scan on both days, they had their lunch.
When the volunteers had skipped breakfast, they ate around 20 percent more at lunch, compared with days when they had eaten breakfast.?Their brain scans also showed the orbitofrontal cortex was especially responsive to high-calorie foods."We believe that bit identifies the value of foods-how pleasant, how delicious something is,"Goldstone told The Guardian.
