【题目】Next time you’re planning to go out for a relaxing walk with your MP3 player, be sure to check the weather forecast first. Summer is the prime time for lightning strikes, a fact that Jason Bunch, a teen from Castle Rock, Colo, learned in a hard way. A couple of summers ago, he was mowing (割草) grass while listening to some Metallica on his iPod. Although there wasn’t any rain falling on Bunch, he did hear distant thunder. Bunch was then struck by lightning, which seemed to travel through his music player, blowing out his eardrums and leaving him with burns where the device and its power lines were close to his body.

Devices such as MP3 players don’t attract lightning, says Dr. Mary Ann Cooper, an emergency room physician at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago. However, they may change the pathway that lightning’s energy follows in the human body. Lightning that might have passed rather harmlessly over the skin may react differently to the metal of these devices and cause damage.

Rather than leaving your tunes at home, your best bet is watching out for lightning before it hits. Though people have been injured while using MP3 players in storms, Cooper says, “The devices’ main task is keeping you from paying attention to thunder and the sky.” If you’re caught in a storm, seek shelter.

1When does lightning happen most?

A. Winter. B. Fall. C. Summer. D. Spring.

2What was the effect of this lightning strike on Jason Bunch?

A. The lightning burned Bunch and blew out his eardrums.

B. The lightning passed harmlessly over Bunch’s skin.

C. Bunch fell to the ground and couldn’t move his upper body.

D. Bunch was fine, but his iPod was burned by the lightning.

3What can you conclude about the safety of using MP3 players during a storm?

A. MP3 players are desperately unsafe to use during a storm.

B. IPods are safe to use during a storm, but other MP3 players are not.

C. MP3 players increase your safety during a storm by directing lightning toward the ground.

D. MP3 players become unsafe to use if they keep you from paying attention during a storm.

4The primary purpose of this text is .

A. to describe the joy that Jason Bunch felt after he survived a lightning strike

B. to inform the risks of wearing an MP3 player during lightning strikes

C. to tell a lightning emergency Jason Bunch met with

D. to show that MP3 players are so popular among teenagers

There's a widely-accepted line of thinking, especially in 2019 that says the people and things we love will eventually let us down.

It's never an if, always a when. So our heroes will inevitably to be trash monsters. Our favorite bands will in enter an experimental phase, even though no one asked them to. And our favorite TV shows will 1fail to reach greater heights, but they won't even come close to the same level of success they once had.

It was with this cynical mentality 2 I approached the second season of 2018’s breakout hit Killing Eve. How could a series that was so well written, so well acted, and so fiercely addictive in freshman season possibly3 (maintain) the same level of quality in Season 2, especially since Phoebe Waller-Bridge,4developed the series for TV and wrote four of the first season’s eight episodes, wasn't involved in the writing of the second? It seemed like an impossible task.

But then a strange thing happened: Killing Eve’s second season, at least the two episodes 5 (screen) in advance for critics, didn't let me down. The new episodes generated the same amount of joy I experienced 6 I watched Eve (sandra Oh) and Villanelle( Jodie Comer) dance around each other during the first go-around, only this time the stakes were considerably 7 (high).

As Phoebe Waller-Bridged, noted “Killing Eve is a character study on two lives, two women and their circumstances, their homes, their wants, their fears and 8 keeps them from ending it all. It's just that 9happens to be an assasin (暗杀者) and the other a spy. If I've done my job right, the audience 10 feel equally chilled as they are excited by the determination of these women, their journeys and how drawn they are to one another.

【题目】 My grandmother grew up in a world different from me. She experienced many things in her long life.

Though she never told stories, her stories were in the way she ate — she savored (品味) her food, cherished (珍惜) it. Often she would be the first to sit at the dinner table, and the last to leave. Food had been really scarce (缺乏) when she grew up.

Her stories were in the way she handed me lucky money. From a young age, my grandmother was brought up to understand the importance of hard work and the necessary of saving. Every Chinese New Year, I would be handed, or sent, a small red envelope that contained money, but never more than twenty dollars. When I was young , I didn’t understand why my grandmother gave me such a small amount of money. As I grew older, I realized that she wasn’t teaching me about money, but about tradition and hard work and family. The money was insignificant. I would probably spend it on any toy that I would lose soon after; it was the meaning behind her gift that mattered. It was her saying, “ I love you; I am your family and I want you to work hard as your family has before you.”

My grandmother’s stories were lessons. But they were never told in words. From the time that I was very young, up until she could barely remember my name, I remember her calling me “good girl”. Those two little words, in the course of my growing up, were a constant reminder that I was still so young, with still so far to go.

Now my grandmother is gone, but I see her every day. I see her in the women around me and in the mirror. She lives with me, inside me, and in the legacies(遗产)that I will create. And I know she would be proud.

A.She was really a good girl.

B.She needed to continually improve herself.

C.She should be proud of her manners and behaviors.

D.She was always a good girl in her grandmother’s eyes.

4What can we know about the author’s grandmother after reading the passage?

D.She was a mean woman with old-fashioned values.

Recently, Ikea has brought out Bekant convertible(可改变的)standing desk that can become a normal desk at the touch of a button. The $500 adjustable desk can transform from a standard desk to a standing one, and Ikea hopes it could make the standing desk mainstream.

The desk can even be programmed to move up and down slightly, making it appear to take a gentle breath to remind the user to change their position. To move between sitting and standing positions, owners simply double tap on the screen. The desk can learn the user’s preferences over time and suggest the best seating position.

The Stir Kinect desk was created by a team of ex-Apple and Disney engineers. It has a built-in touch screen to control and track movement, and can tell users exactly how many calories they burn by standing during their working day.
