Mental and health experts believe personality plays an important part in how we experience stress. Personality is the way a person acts, feels and thinks.

Some people are aggressive and always in a hurry. They often become angry when things do not happen the way they planned. They belong to “Type A” personality. Studies suggest that these people often get stressrelated disorders. The “Type B” personality is calmer. These people are able to deal with all kinds of situations more easily. As a result, they are less affected by stress.

Studies have also shown that men and women deal with stress differently. Women seem to be better able to deal with stress than men are. However, experts say women are three times more likely to develop depression in reaction to the stress in their lives. American writer John Gray became famous for his book, Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. He notes that men and women have opposite ways of dealing with stress. For a man, the best way is to rest and forget about daily problems. But a woman suffering from stress needs to talk about her problems.

Experts say there are several ways to deal with stress, including deep breathing, exercise, eating healthy foods, getting enough rest and balancing the time spent in working and playing.Exercise is one of the most effective stressreduction measures, as physical changes from exercise make you feel better. In addition, exercise can also improve the body's defense system against disease.

Keeping stress to yourself can make problems worse. Experts say that expressing emotions to friends or family members or writing down your feelings can help reduce stress. And they also suggest that people should attempt to accept or change stressful situations whenever possible.

36.According to the experts, ________.

A.people respond to stress quite differently

B.people make the same response to stress

37.Compared with “Type A” personality, “Type B” personality ________.

A.causes more troubles

B.is less able to cope with different situations

C.is more easily affected by stress

D.tends to solve problems more peacefully

38.By saying “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus”,  John Gray means that they ________.

A.experience emotions in a different way

B.cope with stress in a different way

C.suffer from stress in a similar way

D.develop stress in the opposite way

39.If you want to reduce your stress, you can ________.

The global financial crisis is likely to cause increased mental health problems as people struggle to deal with poverty and unemployment, the World Health Organization warned Thursday.
Hundreds of millions of people worldwide are already affected by mental problems such as depression and bipolar disorders (带躁狂的抑郁症) and the current market meltdown (崩溃) could worsen feelings of despair among people who can't stand such illnesses.
The United Nations agency said the impact could be especially marked for those living in low and middle income countries where access to treatment is often limited.
"We should not be surprised at the turbulence (动荡) and likely consequences of the current financial crisis. Now we are seeing a huge gap in taking care of people in great need," WHO director general Margaret Chan told at a meeting of mental health experts.

After our early morning wake-up, we are still a couple of
hours away from the overlooks. It is pitch black.I can feel the
heavy humid fog left behind my last night's rain. This is why
the tour memo listed "flashlight". Unfortunately; the majority
of our hiking party of nine must have missed the memo, so we
have only four flashlights between us.
An hoar later,we are on the trail. It is dark, foggy, wet and the rocks are alippery. We alternate places between the flashlights "haves" and "have-nots". As we march, the only voices heard are from the "haves": "Step up, step down, watch out for the rock on your left."
We reach Intipunku with only 15 minutes to spare. The view at sunrise is not what we were told in the travel brochures. Three feet in front of our faces is a white substance called "fog".
As we walk towards the Machu Picchu ruins, my anticipation is mounting. When will the fog lift? Slowly, as if someone is cranking up a curtain, Huayna Picchu begins to appear, overlooking Machu Picchu. First there are fleeting glimpses, and then finally, there is, in its full splendor.
When I envisioned going to Machu Picchu, I always thought of mysterious ruins and the famous postcard picture looking toward Huayna Picchu. But there is more to this man-made / natural wonder of the World. It is the adventure of getting there. I knew I wanted to experience the feel of the Inca culture and the energy of this sacred valley, I also knew I didn't want to take the train, but needed to hike. Depending on your starting point, the Inca Trail is 25 to 33miles of semi-arid desert, breathless mountain passes and stunning tropical cloud forest. Our hike took us four nights and 25 miles to finish.
Our local guide MaurO keeps telling us "no worries, the hike is 90 percent mental and only 10 percent physical. "I am not convinced that the physical percentage is correct, but I definitely become more and more excited as we are now getting closer to Machu Picchu.By getting myself into good shape, running 20 miles and hiking a 500-foot-high hill five to seven times per week before I left for Peru, I was able to enjoy the beauty of the hike and not worry much about aching muscles and lungs.

Let’s do some sleep math. You lost two hours of sleep every night last week because of a big project due on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, you slept in,getting four extra hours. On Monday morning, you were feeling so bright—eyed that you only had one cup of coffee, instead of your usual two.But don’t be cheated by your energy. You’re still carrying around a heavy load of sleepiness,or what experts call “sleep debt”一in this case something like six hours, almost a full night’s sleep.
Sleep debt is the difference between the amount of sleep you should be getting and the amount you actually get. It’s a shortage that grows every time we skim some extra minutes off our nightly sleep.“People get more sleep debt gradually without being noticed,”says William C.Dement, founder of the Stanford University Sleep Clinic.Studies show that such short term sleep lack leads to a foggy brain, worsened vision, and trouble remembering.Long-term effects include obesity(肥胖),insulin(胰岛素)resistance, and heart disease.A survey by the National Sleep Foundation reports that we’re losing one hour of sleep each night——more than two full weeks of sleep every year.
The good news is that, like all debt, with some work, sleep debt can be repaid.Adding all extra hour or two of sleep a night is the way to catch up.For the long-term lack of sleep, take it easy for a few months to get back into a natural sleep pattern.
Go to bed when you are tired, and allow your body to wake you in the morning(no alarm clock allowed). You may find yourself catatonic(有紧张症的)in the beginning of the recovery cycle:expect to have ten hours shut—eye per night; As the days pass, however, the amount of sleeping time will gradually decrease.
So earn back that lost sleep and follow the rules of your innate(固有的)sleep needs. You’ll feel better.“When you put away sleep debt, you become a superman,”says Stanford's Dement, talking about the improved mental and physical capabilities that come with being well rested.
53.If rou have short-term sleep lack,you may         .
A.put on weight    B.get heart disease
C.hate eating food D.have a poor sight
54.The example of sleep math is used to show         .
A.in what case you build up a sleep debt
B.in what way you can make up for lack of sleep
C.why you are energetic even without enough sleep
D.why you need six hours’sleep every night
55.By saying the underlined sentence,Dement means that         .
A.you need a lot of sleep to be a superman
B.you will be in a good state with enough sleep
C.you need to be a superman to repay sleep debt
D.you will become a superman with more sleep debt
56.What might be the most suitable title for the passage?
A.How can you keep energetic?    B.What is sleep debt?
C.Can you catch up on lost sleep?D.Can coffee refresh you?
