2.prepare→ preparing

3.classmate→classmates

4.what→which/that

5.checking→check

6.come→came

7.much删除

8. a→the

9. excited→excitedly

10us→me

participate in参加,故在participate后加上in

第一名: the first prize,所以要用定冠词,故将 a改为the

Why are some people so successful in reaching their goals? Research on achievement suggests that successful people reach their goals not simply because of who they are, but more of ten because of what they do. 1

2 “Lose 5 pounds” is a better goal than “lose some weight”, because it gives you a clear idea of what success looks like. Knowing exactly what you want to achieve keeps you motivated until you get there. Also, think about the specific actions that need to be taken to reach your goal. Just promising you’ll “sleep more” is too vague—be clear and precise. “I’ll be in bed by 10pm on weeknights” leaves no room for doubt about what you ought to do.

Meanwhile, you should think positively about achieving your goal. Believing in your ability to succeed is particularly helpful for creating your motivation. 3 Studies show that thinking things will come to you easily and effortlessly leaves you ill-prepared for the journey ahead, and significantly increases the possibility of failure.

4 You may take on a challenge that requires you to do something you’d honestly rather not do, such as giving up high-fat snacks, or doing 100 sit-ups a day, which will develop your determination to reach your goals. You may start with just one activity, and make a plan for how you will deal with troubles when they occur. 5

A. So just look forward confidently and carry on courageously.

B. But whatever you do, don’t ignore the difficulty in reaching your goal.

C. As your strength grows, you can take on more challenges.

D. Here are some ways successful people achieve their goals.

E. Making a plan for reaching your goals takes patience.

F. When you set yourself a goal, try to be as specific as possible.

G. Willpower is another important factor.

One evening years ago in New York, I sat on a bench in a park and watched a little boy, around 2 years old,1 (run) freely on the grass as his mother watched from a short distance away. The boy would fall to the grass,2(get) up, and without looking back 3his mother, run as fast as he could as if nothing had happened.

When kids fall down, they don’t think of the fall as a failure. Instead, they consider4as a learning experience. They try again and again until they succeed. While I5(touch) by the boy’s strong mind, I was also touched by the way he ran. With each attempt, he looked so confident and natural. He only wanted to run6(free) and to do it as 7(good) as he could. He was just being a child—just being himself—being completely in the moment. He never gave up. Each time he8(fall), he got himself back up again, as if he knew that falling down was simply a part of life. He was not looking for others’ smiles, or worrying about9someone was watching or not. He only wanted to run and to feel the experience of running fully and freely.

I learned a lot from that experience, and have successfully brought that lesson with me in many10(part) of my life.
