Nowadays many people drive instead of taking a bus or walking to work. It causes more traffic jam: and accidents. As the student, what can we do to guarantee our safe? First of all, the traffic rules must be strict obeyed. When we cross streets, wait until the traffic light turn green. Next, don't forget walk on the pavement. Finally, I think it very dangerously to wear headphones while walking or cycling. Since we can't pay enough attention on the traffic around us, so accidents may happen. Taking good care of ourselves and don't let our parents worry about us.

Lindha was a student at Kansas State University. She is here to tell us about her time in Kansas in the city of Manhattan.
What were the best things about it?
Manhattan has a great university feel to it. I loved going to the football games. We would spend the whole day tailgating (¿ª³µÎ²ÅɶÔ) outside the stadium, drinking beer and having a big barbecue.
What do you think of the people there?
People from Kansas are so friendly. However, I'd say that many Kansans are very sheltered and don't pay much attention to life outside the US. But as the grandma of my Kansan friend might say, ¡°We're still sweet as pie.¡±
What were the worst things about being there?
It's very difficult to get around Kansas without a car. Everything's so spread out and there isn't really a public transportation system.
What was the funniest thing that happened while you were there?
I remember one trip I took with my friend to her grandparents' house. They had horses and asked me if I wanted to go for a ride. I had never ridden a horse before but I decided to have a try. I hopped (ÌøÉÏ) on and everything was fine for a minute. But then the horse went crazy. It started bucking (ÃÍÈ»Íä±³Ô¾Æð) and making these crazy noises. I thought I was going to die. My friend eventually calmed the horse down but not before I had destroyed an entire section of the fence. I thought they would be mad but they were just in shock ¡ª they couldn't believe I had stayed on the horse for that long.
Did you have any other problems?
I'm Swedish, but my English is pretty good because my dad's English. But it took a little while to get used to the accent. The people from the cities don't have a strong accent, but the people from the country are hard to understand sometimes. You also have to be careful with the weather. In the winter it was absolutely freezing, and during the summer it was so hot I thought I might die. Of course, they have heating and air conditioning everywhere.
1.What's Lindha's impression about people in Kansas?
A. They are kind but unhappy.
B. They are nice but isolated.
C. They are patient and amusing.
D. They are honest and generous.
2.What do we know about Lindha's horse riding experience?
A. She fell off the horse's back.
B. She finally got the horse under control.
C. She was brave but destroyed part of a fence.
D. She had a wonderful and unforgettable experience.
3.We learn from the text that Lindha _____.
A. doesn't like the weather in Kansas
B. speaks English with a Swedish accent
C. speaks highly of the transportation system in Kansas
D. doesn't like the school life in Kansas State University

Forget about the ¡°post-1995 generation¡±. Young people born in 1995 or later have another name in English¡ªGeneration Z.
Now entering adulthood and soon to join the workforce, Generation Z grew up in a special period of time¡ªa time in which technology developed fast, social changes happened every day, the internet became universal and, sadly, so did global terrorism.
It is believed that Generation Z is the generation that is going to shape our future, which is why policy makers, sociologists and company leaders are trying their best to understand these young people.
So, what are Gen Z-ers really like?
Most people agree that the single biggest difference between Gen Z and other generations is how connected they are. This is a group of people who have been familiar with social media as soon as they were born. Social media has changed the way Gen Z-ers communicate with each other and how they get and understand information.
¡°We are the first true digital natives. I can almost create a document, edit it, post a photo on Instagram and talk on the phone, all at the same time,¡± said Hannah Payne, an 18-year-old student at UCLA, according to The New York Times. ¡°Generation Z takes in information very fast and loses interest just as fast.¡±
It may be true that Generation Z-ers have a shorter attention span (×¢ÒâÁ¦³ÖÐøʱ¼ä) than a goldfish, but since they grew up among social changes, they are more active in politics. According to the British Election Study, 58 percent of 18-to-24-year-old voted in the 2015 general election in the UK, a big jump from 38 percent in 2005.
Generation Z-ers are also culture creators. ¡°Growing up with the internet has freed this generation from traditional cultural expression.¡± Wrote Grace Masback, a Huffington Post blogger and a Gen Z-er herself. According to Masback, these young people are no longer willing to let their creativity be limited by their parents of traditional rules. They watch videos and read news online instead of on TV, and they share their experiences on social media.
¡°We decide what kind of content we want to experience and choose how we experience it,¡± wrote Masback.
1.Which is TRUE about Gen Z-ers, according to the article?
A. Face-to-face communication is challenging for them.
B. Often doing many things at the same time affects their efficiency.
C. They don¡¯t bother to think about the information they take in carefully.
D. They show more interest in politics than in other fields.
2.What can we infer from the last two paragraphs?
A. Gen Z-ers enjoy great freedom to express themselves.
B. Gen Z-ers enjoy teaching their parents about new cultural trends.
C. Gen Z-ers are against traditional culture.
D. Gen Z-ers are unwilling to obey their parents.
3.Which word can best describe the author¡¯s attitude towards Generation Z?
A. Worried B. Critical C. Appreciative D. Neutral(ÖÐÁ¢µÄ)

The first-ever direct China-to-Britain freight train (»õÔËÁгµ) arrived in London last week. It was the 1. (late) evidence of China¡¯s efforts to redevelop the ¡°Silk Road¡± trade routes that once stretched from Asia to Europe.
2. (travel) from China through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany, Belgium and France for 18 days, the train finally arrived in London. Inside the 68 containers 3.(be) household goods, clothing, cloth, bags and suitcases. ¡°This is 4.(two) as quick as sea and it¡¯s much, much cleaner and cheaper than air freight,¡± said Philippa Edmunds, 5.works at the British Campaign for Better Transport.
But the train itself may be more important than the goods 6. was carrying. Observers say the trip had a political message: that China is developing new trade routes and new markets. China needs to find more places 7. (sell) the goods it makes. That is the 8.(believe) of Jie Yu from the London School of Economics. ¡°The domestic market in China now seems not to be very promising, so the Chinese are 9.
(desperate) looking for the new markets. And obviously that freight train serves 10. a very good vehicle for the Chinese manufacturers and may help restore the business confidence inside China. ¡±

Back in 2001, Pen Hadow and I traveled to the North Pole. One morning we¡¯d just taken down our tent and started skiing. Pen was in front, and I was following him. Suddenly I got a strange feeling that something was behind us. I stopped, looked back and saw a polar bear, walking towards us.
Pen and I planned to stay where we were, try and look big, and frighten it away. Pen had a shotgun that we¡¯d bought in Russia. That was his job. My job was to look big and to take off my skis, hold the skis in the air, make lots of noise, and frighten away the bear. Pen raised the gun and fired into the air. However, it jammed and failed to work.
The bear was walking towards us. Pen tried again, but again it didn¡¯t work. Then he walked towards the bear, and I thought, ¡°Wow, Pen¡¯s gone completely mad. He¡¯s going to get eaten. What should I do?¡±
I thought maybe I could throw a ski at it or stab (´Ì) it with a ski pole or something. Suddenly, the bear stopped. Pen stopped. Bang. The gun went off in the air. There was a big cloud of smoke that I thought surprised Pen and me more than it surprised the bear. The animal looked up, looked down, turned around and walked off. Pen turned round and said, ¡°Quick, get the camera and take a photograph,¡± and that was when suddenly I felt really nervous. I couldn¡¯t even undo the zip on our bag.
That was the morning of the second day of this journey. We were out there for two months ¡ª fifty-nine days, but we never saw another bear that close.
