Last summer vacation, I, together with my parents, went on a trip to Vancouver. Surrounded by mountains and the Pacific Ocean, Vancouver is the biggest port city in the west of Canada. Because of the warm and pleasant weather, there are lots of lakes, forests and national parks around. The scenery is so beautiful that thousands of people are attracted to travel here from different countries.
During the daytime, my parents and I went sailing in the harbor, enjoying the sea breeze and waves. In the evening, we went shopping in the downtown, wandering along the busy streets. Besides, we paid a visit to a famous national park nearby the city.
In a word, we had great fun in Vancouver and I was deeply impressed by the beauty of the city. I truly hope that I will have another chance to visit it.

It was a cold evening. My daughter and I were walking up Broadway. I didn¡¯t notice a guy sitting inside a cardboard box. But Nora . She wasn¡¯t even four, but she at my coat and said, ¡°That man¡¯s cold. Daddy, can we take him home?¡±
I don¡¯t remember my . But I do remember a sudden feeling inside me. I had always been pleased at how much my daughter noticed in her , whether it was flying or children playing. But now she was noticing and beggary.
A few days later, I saw an article in the newspaper about volunteers who picked up a food package from a nearby school on a Sunday morning and it to an elderly person. It was quick and easy. I signed us up(µÇ¼Ç²Î¼Ó). Nora was about it. She could understand the importance of food, so she could easily see how our job was. When Sunday came, she was ready, but I had to myself to leave the house to fetch the food package. On my way to the school, I fought an urge (Ç¿ÁÒÔ¸Íû) to turn . The Sunday paper and coffee were waiting for me at home. Why to do this? , we phoned the elderly person we¡¯d been appointed. She us right over.
The building was in a bad state. Facing us was a silver-haired woman in an old dress. She took the package and asked us to come in. Nora ran inside. I unwillingly followed. inside, I saw that the department belonged to someone poor. Our hostess showed us some photos. Nora played and when it came time to say goodbye, we three hugged. I walked home .
Experts call such a(n) ¡°a volunteer opportunity¡±. They are opportunities and I¡¯ve come to see. Where else but as volunteers do you have the opportunity to do something that¡¯s good for others as well as for yourself? Nora and I regularly serve meals to needy people and clothes for the homeless. Yet, as I¡¯ve her grow over these past four years, I still wonder¡ªwhich of us has benefited more?

In Europe, many people make friends across the borders between their countries through town twinning. Town or city twinning means two towns in different countries agree and decide to become ¡°twins¡± with sister city relationship.
Their citizens find pen friends in the twin town. They exchange newspapers and stamps. The school teachers discuss teaching methods with the teachers in the twin town. Officials visit the twin town for celebrations. Ordinary citizens travel to the twin town, too, but not very often if it is far away.
Sometimes, schools even exchange their classes for two or three weeks! For example, German middle school students study for a while at the school in their twin town in Britain, staying with British families. A few months later, their British friends come to study in Germany.
Some towns even arrange exchange visits for theatre groups, choirs£¨ºÏ³ªÍÅ£©and orchestras £¨ ¹ÜÏÒÀÖ¶Ó£©. Others send lecturers to the twin town who tell the people there all about their own town , and show photos and slides.
Town twining can help make friends and motivate£¨´Ù½ø£© people to learn from each other. It helps students to improve their language skills, and it contributes to £¨ÓÐÖúÓÚ£©strengthening peace and understanding between different nations.
