         Members of Parliament (MPs) warned that the privacy (隐藏) of thousands of mobile phone users is in
    danger today because of Google's new tracking system. In a motion (提案), they also warned that the system
    offers live tracking of mobiles through a website and called on Google to examine the service.
         The Latitude system can find where a user is. This is then broadcasted live to Google's website. Once the
    service is activated, the position of a person's phone appears as a blue dot on a map on the screen of whoever
    is allowed to monitor (监控) them. The Latitude feature is being developed by Google as a "fun" way to "keep
    tabs on     someone special". More than a million users around the world have already signed up to the service,
    Google claims.
         However, concerns have been raised about the system. MPs have written to Google demanding extra
    security (安全) safeguards on the service.
         Mr. Brake, one of the MPs who raised the motion, said,"In Britain, we have a tradition of fighting for our
    freedom. With this new system we face a threat to it. I demand MPs to support this motion and encourage the
    Government to take action to ensure that Latitude does not represent a threat to our privacy. or our freedom
    could be in danger."
         Google today insisted there was no threat to privacy.It said it was up to users to decide whether to make
    their location visible to other people and to decide who could monitor their position.The service was designed
    to help people keep in touch.
         However, human rights watchdog Privacy International analyzed the service and claimed it was open to
    abuse (滥用). Its report claimed employers could supply employees with phones already set up to use the
    service without their knowledge, or that users could simply sign up their partner's or child's mobile phone
    without telling them.

    To me, life without music would not be exciting. I realize that this is not true for everybody. Many people get along quite well without going to the concert, or listening to the record. But music plays an important part in everyone’s life, whether he realizes it or not. Try to imagine, for example, what films or TV plays would be like without music.     　　In a room filled with cigarette smoke and the smell of beer, people are laughing as a little man on stage talks．This is stand-up, a major form of live entertainment in the West．

    　　It could be held in a theatre or just a bar．The basic idea is that a person, or sometimes two, "stands up" on a stage and makes the audience laugh．

    　　Call me old-fashioned．Call me old．Call me what you want, but I refuse to become part of this new Internet world．

    　　I do not possess a computer at home or at the office．Actually, I stopped going to an office 35 years ago, when all communications were done with a pen, a typewriter, or, if the matter was of world-shaking importance, over the telephone．Likewise, if you like something advertised in a newspaper or magazine, you visited the shop selling it at the given address, or you phoned the number shown．Then you spoke to the fellow and asked for further details．

    　　Tell me what you think of the following ad that appeared the other day in the newspaper．It was for a cure for cancer and this is what it said：“Awareness is the key．Visit spfulford．com at the awareness site．” There was no address or telephone number for the site．So what do unfortunate people without a computer do if they are seeking a cure for their illness?

    　　There are, I am told, certain advantages in having access to the Internet．You can, for example, send love messages across the world or even get married to someone that you meet online．This bit doesn’t interest me; I have been happily married for 60 years．There are, of course, other activities for Internet users besides finding love．They can pay bills, order groceries, or discuss with their doctors．

    　　And this is by no means all．More amazing things are yet to come in the near future．I read a newspaper report recently that quoted Stephen Hawking, an important British scientist．“The complexity of a computer as it exists today is probably less than the brain of an earthworm,” he said．“But, as technology advances, computers will become more complex, and a time may come when the Internet may develop ‘consciousness．’ In other words, the Internet will be able to think, have feelings, and may well be able to act on its own．”

    　　If Professor Hawking is right, I may change my attitude to computers．As I grow older each day, I would like one of those that not only thinks for me but also accepts responsibilities for all my mistakes．
