Yesterday was my birthday.I always spent a special day with my family, the closest ones who I could share my joy and happiness. When I woke up in the morning,I found on the desk was some new clothes and a note which said. “Get dressing and come outside.”I did,and before I got outside I found my father wait.He took me to a huge amusement park I have never been to.We bought ticket and entered.I went direct to the main roller coaster which I had been hoping to ride it for years. It turned out to be a great birthday.

1. a→the

2. happiness后加with

3. was→were

4. dressing→dressed

5. before→when/after

6. wait→waiting

7. have→had

8. ticket→tickets

9. direct→directly

时间状语从句应该由when/after引导,故将before改为when/after.

Americans use the term “college students” to mean students either in colleges or universities. Not only that, Americans almost never say “going off to university” or “when I was in university.” That sounds British. 1

College, university: what’s the difference? 2 Both offer undergraduate degrees in the arts and sciences, for example. And both can help prepare young people to earn a living.

But many colleges do not offer graduate studies. Another difference is that universities are generally bigger. 3

Another place of higher education, especially in technical areas, is an institute, like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Yet even an institute of technology can offer a wide choice of programs and activities.

Modern universities developed from those of Europe in the Middle Ages. The word “university” came from the Latin universities, describing a group of people organized for a common purpose.4 In England, colleges were formed to provide students with places to live. Usually each group was studying the same thing. So college came to mean an area of study.

The first American universities divided their studies into a number of areas and called each one a college. This is still true. 5 For example, Harvard College is the undergraduate part of Harvard University.

Programs in higher learning can also be called schools, like a school of engineering or a medical school within a college or university. You know, learning all these terms is an education in itself.

A. A college can also be a part of a university.

B. There are more universities than colleges in the USA.

C. They offer more programs and do more research.

D. “College” came from collegium, a Latin word with a similar meaning.

E. Universities and colleges offer students different opportunities.

F. Instead, they say “going off to college” and “when I was in college.”

G. Colleges and universities have many things in common.

It is quite reasonable to blame traffic jams, the cost of gas and the great speed of modern life, but manners on the road are becoming horrible. Everybody knows that the nicest men would become fierce tigers behind the wheel. It is all right to have a tiger in a cage, but to have one in the driver's seat is another matter.
Road politeness is not only good manners, but a good sense. It takes the most cool-headed drivers great patience to give up the desire to beat back when forced to face rude driving. On the other hand, a little politeness goes a long way towards reducing the possibility of quarreling and fighting. A friendly nod or a wave of thanks in answer to an act of politeness helps to create an atmosphere of good will and becomes so necessary in modern traffic conditions. But such behavior of politeness is by no means enough. Many drivers nowadays don't even seem able to recognize politeness when they see it.
However, misplaced politeness can also be dangerous. A typical example is the driver who waves a child crossing the street at a wrong place into the path of oncoming cars that may not be able to stop in time. The same goes for encouraging old ladies to cross the road wherever and whenever they want to.
An experienced driver, whose manners are faultless, told me it would help if drivers learnt to correctly join in a traffic stream without causing total blockages that give rise to unpleasant feelings. Unfortunately, modern drivers can't even learn to drive, let alone master the roadmanship Years ago, experts warned us that the fast increase of the car ownership would demand more give-and-take (互谅互让) from all road users. It is high time for all of us to take this message to heart.
(1)The passage mainly talks about ________.
A.traffic jams
B.good manners
C.road politeness
D.modern drivers
(2)Troubles on the road are often caused by ________.
A.traffic jams
B.the behavior of the drivers
C.the great speed of modern life
D.terrible road conditions
(3)According to the writer, a good driver should ________.
A.encourage children to cross the road whenever they want to
B.beat back when forced to face rude driving
C.be able to recognize politeness when he sees it
D.join in a traffic stream quickly however other people feel
(4)It is not always right for drivers to ________.
A.master the roadmanship
B.neglect politeness when they see it
C.give a friendly nod in answer to an act of politeness
D.encourage old ladies to cross the road whenever and wherever they want to

Mr. Peter Johnson, aged twenty-three, battled for half an hour to escape from his trapped car yesterday when it landed upside down in three feet of water. Mr. Johnson took the only escape route—through the boot
Mr. Johnson's car had finished up in a ditch (沟渠) at Romney Marsin,Kent, after skidding on ice and hitting a bank. “Fortunately, the water began to come in only slowly,” Mr. Johnson said. “I couldn't force the doors because they were jammed against the walls of the ditch and dared not open the windows because I knew water would come flooding in.”
Mr. Johnson, a sweet salesman of Sitting Home, Kent, first tried to attract the attention of other motorists by sounding the horn (喇叭) and hammering(捶打) on the roof and boot. Then he began his struggle to escape.
Later he said, “It was really a half penny that saved my life. It was the only coin I had in my pocket and I used it to unscrew(松开螺丝) the back seat to get into the boot. I hammered desperately with a hammer trying to make someone hear, but no help came.”
It took ten minutes to unscrew the seat, and a further five minutes to clear the things from the boot. Then Mr. Johnson found a wrench(扳手) and began to work on the boot lock. Fifteen minutes passed by. “It was the only chance I had. Finally it gave, but as soon as I moved the boot lid, the water and mud poured in. I forced the lid down into the mud and scrambled (攀爬) clear as the car filled up.”
His hands and arms cut and bruised (擦伤), Mr. Johnson got to Beckett Farm nearby, where he was looked after by the farmer's wife,Mrs. Lucy Bates. Huddled in a blanket,he said,“That thirty minutes seemed like hours.” “Only the tips (尖部)of the car wheels were visible,”police said last night. “The vehicle had sunk into two feet of mud at the bottom of the ditch.”
