11.Teachers'Complains
Teachers often complain that students don't do their homework properly and that they are constantly arriving school red-eyed and yawning due to lack of sleep.
It appears that there are two main explanations for this phenomenon(现象).Firstly,many young children stay up late to watch television.Programmes suitable for them may finish as late as eight o'clock.No child wants to be an exception in an age of conformity(遵从) and admit not having seen what everybody else has.Secondly,a growing number of older children,particularly those approaching school leaving ages are taking up part-time jobs mainly involving evening or weekend work.They feel that working experience,not academic qualifications,will help them find jobs after leaving school.One can sympathize(同情)with both groups of children but it doesn't make a teacher's life any easier.
50.What are teachers complaining about according to the passage?C
A.Lack of discipline of their students.
B.Their heavy work load and their poor paid.
C.Students'poor homework and weak motivation in study.
D.Lack of understanding and support from students'parents
51.Why do the young children stay up late to watch television?A
A.Because the TV programme which are suitable for them finish late.
B.Because parents nowadays don't pay sufficient attention to their children.
C.Because there isn't  much homework for them to do.
D.Because good TV programmes usually start late.
52.What is the author's attitude towards the two groups of school children?D
A.He thinks they should be well guided.
B.He thinks they should be subject to strict discipline.
C.He thinks they should be told how difficult their teacher's life is.
D.He thinks they should be shown sympathy.

2.Do you have any skiing equipment you no longer need?A ski school in the far north of India could put it to good use.
In March we published a photo story about the extraordinary Zsnskar region in northern India, which is cut off from the outside world for more than seven months of the year, and only accessible (可通行的)via a frozen river. We also included information about the limited use of skiing in the region and the recent creation of the Zanskar Ski School:"Despite the difficulties of travelling through the region when the snow comes, skiing hasn't traditionally been used as a means of transport by the locals, largely because trees don't grow here,so there is little in the way of raw materials from which to make skis.In 1995,a group of British scientists in the region noticed the lack of skis and one of them returned to set up the Zanskar Ski School in Padam. The school provides lessons for a small fee and rents skis to the local people.Among the benefits that the school hopes to bring are improved education-children often find it difficult to get to school through the deep snow-and the possibility of offering ski tours to tourists in the future. So far, more than 300 local people have received training, and local doctors and  policemen regularly borrow skis."
But what we weren't able to include in the article is that the ski school is always on the look out for old skiing equipment-particularly of a size suitable for children-and,I thought.Now the European ski season is drawing to a close,there might be a few of you out there who have some old equipment you'd like to see go to a good home.If that's the ease you can get in touch with the school via their website www.zanskarski school.org.

19.What science story once told about other worlds far away is now a fact.Astronomers prove another solar (of the sun) system like ours with some planets in the constellation Andromeda (仙女座).
Geoffrey Marcy is a professor of astronomy and physics at San Francisco State University. He says,"What we have found now is indeed a fully-grown system of planets around the star Upsilon Andromeda. It appears to have three planets, one close in,one at a middle distance, and one farther out.The star is slightly larger than our sun.The planets are huge, like our Jupiter(木星)."
Marcy's partner in this research,Debra Fischer, describes the solar system,"Here are the inner planet that goes around every 46 days, the middle planet that goes around every 242 days, and then the outer planet that goes around every three and a half to four years."
The sun of that solar system,Upsilon Andromeda,is so near and bright that it can be seen by using no equipment during summer and fall.
For twelve years astronomers searched the skies in the belief that if our sun has planets around it,surely others do,too.Geoffrey Marcy says,"And then starting three and a half years ago,we began finding for the first time planets singly, one planet here around one star…"
"When I look up at the stars now at night,I can imagine easily that every one of them has planets around them,"says Debra Fischer.
It was a tremble (shaking) in the star that led Marcy to the planets."The star rocks around because of the gravity of the planet as a dog owner gets pulled around by a little dog."
Can they support life?We don't know, because present technology is not advanced enough to determine what the planets are made of.That,Marcy says,is astronomy's next challenge.
32.What's the relation between Andromeda (A),Upsilon Andromeda system (U) and the mentioned three planets (P)?D

33.According to Debra Fischer,in the new solar system,B.
A.the larger a planet is,the shorter it takes to go around the star
B.the farther a planet is from the star, the longer it takes to go around the star
C.it takes all the planets around three and a half to four years to go around the star
D.the planets move around the star at the same speed
34.What led to Marcy's discovery of the planets?C
A.That any planet has gravity.
B.That a dog owner was pulled by his dog.
C.The tremble of Upsilon Andromeda.
D.That any star has its planets.
35.We can infer (推断) that the scientists areA.
A.to find out whether the planets can support life
B.to find means to travel to the planets
C.to communicate with the living beings on the planets
D.soon to be able to answer the question.
