    Larger companies have an extra motivation to look at reducing their carbon footprint，as new rules next year will require businesses to buy carbon allowances to make up for their emissions．Those that have taken early action will have a head start．More than two thirds of consumers are not clear about which companies are environmentally responsible．This suggests that firms that are able to convey clearly their message to the public will be in a pole position to attract shoppers．
    The Carbon Trust believes that it can help by informing customers about the good work companies are doing．"When companies are granted the standard，they can use a logo in all their marketing，which makes it clear that they are working towards cutting emissions，"Mr．Morrison said．

    Another problem is blamed on something that might not seem like a problem at all：being able to quickly find information online．Teachers say the result is a reduction in the desire and ability of their students to work hard to find answers．They say students are overly dependent on search engines and do not make enough use of printed books or research libraries．

    In any American town，after a car crash or some other horrible incident when ordinary people are hurt or killed，you rarely see photographers pushing past rescue workers to take photos of the blood and injuries．But you are likely to see local newspaper and television photographers on the scene-and fast…
    How can we justify doing this？Journalists are taught to separate，doing the job from worrying about the consequences of publishing what they record．Repeatedly，they are reminded of a news-business saying：Leave your conscience in the office，A victim may lie bleeding，unconscious，or dead．Your job is to record the image （图象）．You're a photographer，not an emergency medical worker．You put away your feelings and document the scene．
    But catastrophic events often bring out the worst in photographers and photo editors．In the first minutes and hours after a disaster occurs，photo agencies buy pictures．They rush to obtain the rights to be the only one to own these shocking images and death is usually the subject．Often，an agency buys a picture from a local newspaper or an amateur photographer and puts it up for bid by major magazines．The most sought-after special pictures command tens of thousands of dollars through bidding contests．
    I worked on all those stories and many like them．When they happen，you move quickly：buying，dealing，trying to beat the agencies to the pictures．
    Now，many people believe journalists are the hypocrites （伪君子） who need to be brought down，and it's our pictures that most anger others．Readers may not believe，as we do，that there is a distinction between clear-minded"us"and mean-spirited"them"．In too many cases，by our choices of images as well as how we get  them，we prove our readers right．

    Happy New Year!A list of important dates for this term is attached to this letter．
    Interviews for our April and September Primary One classes will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday，18th&19th January．Now is the time to apply for admission to Peak School．
    Children are expected to weal their uniforms this term．As is usual at this time of the year，mornings at the school are quite cold and l would suggest children wear their sweaters to school．As the temperature goes up during the day，children tend to take off their outer clothes，so it is important that all sweatshirts are labeled（贴有标签）．
    I have received a few requests from parents asking if their children can wear summer uniforms this term．I am of the view that all children in the school should follow the school policy and be dressed in the appropriate uniforms．In the longer term，a number of US at school have questioned the need to have a winter and summer uniform．Perhaps．with careful consideration，we can develop a uniform that will serve children for the whole academic year．
