【题目】阅读理解
When I was a boy there were no smart phones, and our television only got one channel clearly. Still, I never felt bored. The fields, hills and woodlands around my home were the perfect playground whose adventures were only limited by my imagination. I can remember once hiking to nearby lake and walking slowly around it. At the back of it I was amazed to find an old dirt road that I had never seen before. It was full of muddy tyre tracks and deep woods bordered it on both sides, but exploring it still seemed like a fine adventure.
I walked on and on for what seemed like hours. I was sure my guardian angel was whispering in my ears “turn around and head back home”, but I was stubborn and walked on. There was still neither a car nor a house in sight. I noticed that the sun was starting to go and down I grew scared. I didn't want to end up trapped on this road, and I was worried that it would be dark before I could make my way back to the lake again.
I continued to walk on with something growing inside of me. My heart was pounding and my legs were aching. I was almost in tears when I saw something in the distance. It was a house that I recognized. I jumped up and down and laughed out loud. It was still over a mile away, but my legs felt like feathers and I hurried back to my house in no time. I walked in with a big smile on my face just in time for dinner. Then I ended my adventure with a good night's sleep.
I often thought of that experience recently. Actually, in our life, all roads, no matter how they twist and turn, can lead us home again. They can lead us to hey can lead us to our homes in our hearts. May you always walk your path with love! May you always help your fellow travelers along the way! And may your roads always lead you home again!

【题目】请阅读下面短文,并按照要求用英语写一篇 150 词左右的文章。
When we read newspapers, we often come across such English words as “AIDS” and “PK.” When we watch TV, we frequently hear words like “NBA” or “PM2.5.” When we speak, we automatically use words like “OUT” or “Bye-bye.” English words and expressions like these are getting popular. They have already become part of our daily language. And 239 English words have been included in the latest Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese.
The inclusion has started a heated discussion. A group of scholars signed a letter of complaint over the inclusion of these English words, which, they think, goes against Chinese language policies. They not only worry that Chinese is borrowing an increasing number of English words but are also concerned that the inclusion may hurt the dignity of the Chinese language. However, others are in favor of the inclusion because it is hard to say whether it will threaten the Chinese language. They believe the selection is mostly a result of their function and use in daily life.

【题目】Of all nature's disasters, forest fires are often considered the most frightening. Moving at lightning speed, huge walls of flames can burn acres of land in just a few minutes. And although technology, including the use of fire-retardant chemicals, has greatly helped the fight against forest fires, they still do great damage.

According to the National Interagency Fire Center, the fire season last year was the worst on record in terms of the number of fires and acres burned. There were 96. 385 fires and 9.873429 acres affected by fire in a year that was 125% more destructive(毁灭性的) than the10-year average. These fires cost the federal government $1.5 billion to fight, and this figure does not include the money spent by local and state governments as part of the effort.

Fires in the southern states represented half of the national total last year with Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas being home to a usually high amount of activity. Wildfire has also taken place in Western states such as California, Colorado and Alaska throughout the past 10 years.

It is said that two-thirds of forest fires are started accidentally by people. Almost one quarter are purposely set, while lighting causes 10%.

Forest fires can have advantageous effects. Charcoal(木炭) enriches soil and some plant species(种类) grow well after fire. The cones of the jack pine tree, for example, will not spread their seeds unless there is heat. Douglas fir trees grow best in open sunlight areas after fire.

A. fire-retardant chemicals can't be made use of

D. they spread too fast and do great damage

2Almost 25% forest fires are set_____.

【题目】School kids have always complained about having tons of homework. A study offers ways to reduce the load (负荷).children are carrying to avoid hurting young shoulders and backs.

Children generally carry about 22 percent of their body weight in backpacks—for a teenager, that can reach more than 30 pounds of books, food, calculators, and other necessities of modern life. When that amount of pressure is placed on one or two narrow shoulder straps (带子), the weight can easily reduce blood flow to kids’ skin and muscles (肌肉).

Even at 10 percent of body weight, the pressures were still high, and that hasn’t been measured before,’’ said Brandon Macias. According to the study, the pressures were measured when the packs were loaded with 10 percent of the students’ body weight, then 20 percent, and finally 30 percent. An unusual finding came to light—even when both straps were used, pressure on the students’ shoulders was uneven (不平均的). It seems like the right shoulder becomes loaded more, which over a period of years may cause back pain.

The research team came up with the following advice based on its study. The backpack should be positioned (放置) high on the back, reducing the stress on the shoulders and back. And backpack straps should be positioned over both shoulders, lowering the amount of weight carried by one shoulder. Wider straps also reduce the pressure on the shoulders. And finally, the weight in backpacks should be reduced.

1The study mentioned above was carried out for the purpose of ________.

A. helping kids grow taller

B. improving students’ grades

C. reducing kids’ chances of having back pain

D. helping students with pressure in their studies

2Which of the following statements about the students’ backpacks is right?

A. The bag with one shoulder strap is more suitable for students.

B. The weight of the backpack should be 22% of their body weight.

C. The two straps of a bag don’t share the same weight from a bag.

D. Students usually carry a bag about 10 percent of their body weight

3The underlined phrase “came to light” in Paragraph 3 means “________”.

A. was changed B. was tested

C. was impossible D. was known

4The following are suggested by the research team EXCEPT ________.

A. using wider straps

B. reducing the weight of the school bags

C. positioning the school bags high on the back

D. using more than one bag for kids, school things
