Looking forward to your reply.

【答案】Dear Tom,

I’m glad to hear that you’re interested in the organic vegetables picking activity. I’m going to tell you something in details to you, which you must keep in mind.

Above all, it will be held at 8:00 am this Sunday. It is on Hongchang Farm that this activity will take place. In the activity, there will be a guide who helps us pay a visit to the farm. Moreover, we’re going to gain the opportunity to experience the planting process. After that, we can pick some organic vegetables, such as tomatoes, cucumbers and so on. Besides, we will cook the vegetables on our own, which, I think, is the most exciting part.

That’s all I want to say. If you want to know more, just let me know. Looking forward to your reply.

Yours,

Li Hua

【题目】Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main points of the passage in no more than 60 words, Use your own words as far as possible

Parents everywhere praise their kids when they do well in school, win a ball game, or build an impressive sandcastle, anything that seems to be something "remarkable". Jenn Berman, author of The A to Z Guide to Raising Happy and Confident Kids, says, "We've gone to the opposite extreme of a few decades ago when parents tended to be stricter." giving kids a lot of praise, parents think they're building their children's confidence

In fact they may he wrong. Too much praise can make kids afraid to try new, things or take a risk for fear of not being able to stay on top where their parents praise has put them. Still, not giving enough praise can be just as damaging as giving too much. Kids will feel like they're not good enough and, as a result, may see no point in trying hard for their accomplishments

So what is the right amount of praise? Experts say that the quality of praise is more important than the quantity. If praise is sincere and focused an the effort - mot the outcome, you can give it as often as your child does something that deserves a verbal reward. "We should especially recognize our children's efforts to put themselves and work hard to achieve a goal, says Donahue, author of parenting Without Fear, "Your son may not be the best basketball player on his team. But if he's out there every day and playing hard, you should praise his effort regardless of whether his team wins or loses."

Praising the effort can also mean you need to identify the part where your kids make special

efforts in a particular scenario(情景). Instead of saying, "you are such a good baseball player", say, "you hit the ball really hard. You are an excellent first baseman. "Being specific is much better and helps kids identify with their special skill, Donahue says

【题目】 In the West, people are taught to wear masks only when they get sick. Masks are seen as a tool to protect sick people and prevent the disease from spreading, so healthy people don’t need to wear them. Therefore, during the novel coronavirus outbreak, overseas Chinese students said that they would be “stared at like a virus spreader” if they go out with a mask. According to a survey done by Global Times among some European and American people, wearing a mask in public can make them feel “worried”, “shy”, and “afraid of being looked at differently.”

But as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to grow around the world, many people in the West are changing their attitudes. In the US, for example, the need for masks is very high now. The US surgeon general (卫生局局长) has been asking people to avoid hoarding too many masks, as they are more needed in hospitals than by the general public.

However, in Asian countries like China and Japan, there has been a long tradition of mask-wearing. In China, for example, when doctor Wu Liande invented the modern medical mask during the pneumonic plague (肺鼠疫) in 1910, the mask became a symbol of China’s position as a modern, scientific nation, according to Scottish medical anthropologist (人类学家) Christos Lynteris. The 2003 SARS epidemic led to the wide use of masks as a form of anti-viral (抗病毒的) protection in China and elsewhere in East Asia.

In Japan, wearing masks has long been seen as a manner to reassure (使安心) others when one catches a cold or flu. Some Japanese also turn masks into fashion accessories (配饰), with different colors and patterns to match their clothes. Wearing masks is also a way to “hide” for young women when they don’t have their makeup (化妆) on.

In more collectivist (集体主义的) cultures in Asia, wearing masks might also be a symbol of solidarity (团结) during the outbreak, according to Lynteris. People wear masks “to show that they want to stick together” in the face of danger, Lynteris wrote.

1Why don’t healthy people in the West wear masks?

A.They don’t think masks can prevent disease.

B.Only medical workers need to wear masks.

C.They think masks are for sick people to wear.

D.Wearing a mask looks funny.

2What does the underlined word “hoarding” in paragraph 2 mean?

A.wearingB.makingC.throwingD.keeping

3Masks have been widely used in China since _____.

A.the outbreak of SARS in 2003

B.the pneumonic plague in 1910

C.Christos Lynteris wore one publicly

D.the invention of the modern medical mask

4The main idea of the passage is_________.

A.proving the importance of wearing masks during an epidemic

B.showing opinions about masks between different countries

C.explaining why Westerners don’t wear masks

D.introducing the history of wearing masks

【题目】阅读下面短文, 根据所给情节进行续写, 使之构成一个完整的故事。

I remember the first time I met Roy. He was telling a joke. When he reached the final line, everyone burst out laughing. “A popular boy, ”I thought to myself. My name is Daniel. I was the new boy in the class. There were 33 students in my new class, and most people weren’t very interested in a shy new boy. Roy was kind to me. He often invited me to join his particular group, and we became good friends. We trusted each other and we could talk about personal matters.

Five years later, Roy and I are still in the same class. But just under a year ago, Roy’s father was knocked over by a car. He died a few days later. The family had difficulty with finance. Roy changed completely. He started losing friends, including me.

About three months ago, a group of us were playing football together after school. Having left something in the classroom, I went inside to get it, and found Roy going through the pockets of people’s coats. In his hand he had a wallet—and I knew it wasn’t his! Roy went bright red. “I’ll put it back right now, ”he said, and he did so. I turned round and walked out without saying a word. I really hoped that Roy would explain why he had been stealing, but instead he started avoiding me.

Last week our school had a big fair in order to raise money for a charity and we made about£500. But to our surprise, the next morning, we were told that the money had been stolen. This morning I decided to ask Roy about the theft so I went to see him. Roy was out. I put his jacket on and put my hands in the pockets. I could feel a lot of paper notes and I pulled them out. It looked as if there was about£500 there. I was so surprised that I just stood there, holding the notes in my hand. At that moment, Roy walked in.
