I really hadn't meant to yell(吼叫)at them. But that grey afternoon saw it just as my son and daughter were making a terrible mess on the floor in the kitchen.

With a tiresome report to write,I felt bothered at my desk.Suddenly, it occurred to me that my kids were at fault.A voice inside me insisted that I do something quickly.

“OK,you two here.but what an awful thing you are attempting!” shouting angrily, I made for them, while it became evident that the boy wanted no part of me.“Get away from us!” he shouted back, there being expression of support from his sister.

All of a sudden,I found the fault in myself.Quickly I shaped my hands into pincers(螃蟹螯)and crawled towards them,“Crabby(似螃蟹的)Daddy is here Ha,Ha,Ha,he likes to yell at children, and then eat them!” My son continued to keep me away, but now he was laughing and crying at the same time.My mission to repair the damage caused by my yelling seemed to work well.Still,I regretted not having controlled myself first in a right way that my children could do after.

Need I let them know how badly they were acting by blaming? This is a lesson that serves myself. It only shows just how to get rid of something(ill-feelings,responsibility)by blaming others. It's not my “best self”.

We have to search for our “best self” when with our children. They don't need perfect parents, but they do need parents who are always trying to get better. Here,I'm reminded of the words of a great thinker,“When a man lives with God,his voice shall be as sweet as the murmur of the brook…” Then,in our lifetime, couldn't we always speak to our kids in such a sweet voice since, most of us consider them as the most precious in the world? And before we reach this level, what should we do when we come across various difficult cases with our children?

1.The author couldn't help yelling at his kids this time probably because______.

A.the weather was so unpleasant

B.a Daddy has his right to do so

C.the kids didn't ask him to join them

D.he was tired of his boring work

2.Which of the following made the author aware of his fault?

A.No obvious reason.

B.The children’s reaction.

C.His self-control.

D.The mess made by the children.

3.According to the passage the author will                           in another similar situation.

A.play a crab again like this time

B.apologize to kids in a sincere way

C.avoid blaming kids in a hurry

D.beat them up about such things

4.What will the writer go on to write about in the next paragraph(s)?

A.How to behave ourselves properly when kids are at fault.

B.How to blame our children in a more interesting way.

C.How to deal with the terrible mess made by our kids.

D.How to persuade children to do what they are told to.

Our spiritual intelligence quotient (精神智商),or SQ, helps us understand ourselves, and live fuller, happier lives.

Though we're all born with SQ, most of us don’t even realize that we have it. Fortunately, you don't have to sign up for classes to learn how to improve your SQ. Here are some simple steps that can lead you to this new level of understanding.

Sit Quietly. The process of developing spiritual intelligence begins with solitude (独处) and silence. To tune in to your spirit, you have to turn down the volume (强度) in your busy, noisy, complicated life and force yourself to do nothing at all. Start small by creating islands for silence in your day. In the car, instead of listening to the music, use the time to think. At work, shut the door to your office between meetings, take a few breaths and let them out very, very slowly. Enjoy the stillness in your home after the kids are finally in bed.

Step Outside.  For many people, nature sets their spirit free. Go outside to watch a beautiful sunset. If you are walking with the dog, take the time to admire flower in bloom; follow the light of a bird and watch clouds float overhead.

Ask Questions of Yourself. Ask open-ended questions, such as "What am I feeling? What are my choices? Where am I heading?"

But don't expect an answer to arrive through some supernatural form of e-mail. "Rarely do I get an immediate answer to my question," says Reverend Joan Carter, a Presbyterian minister in Sausalito, California. “But later that day I suddenly find myself thinking about a problem in a perspective(角度) I never considered before.”

Trust Your Spirit. While most of us rely on gut(本能的) feeling to realize danger, spiritual intelligence pushes us, not away from, but towards some action that will lead to a greater good.

68. The passage is mainly about           .

  A. what your SQ is and in what way it can benefit our life

  B. what your SQ is and in what way it can be improved

  C. the relationship between your SQ and your life

  D. advantages and disadvantages of SQ

69. The underlined phrase "tune in to your spirit" in the third paragraph probably means to _____.

    A. get your spirit relaxed                      B. keep up your spirit

    C. keep seated quietly                      D. change your spirit

70. The author mentions the example of Reverend Joan Carter to show that            .

    A. there are no immediate answers to your questions

B. e-mails can't keep working out a problem

    C. the more questions you ask, the better answers you'll get

D. changing your way of thinking might help you solve a problem

71. From the passage, we can know that the most important thing to improve your SQ is      .

 A. a peaceful mind    B. deep thought   C. spare time and hobbies   D. good spirits

Whether playing, shopping, studying, or just surfing, today’s kids are taking advantage of all the World Wide Web has offered. When it comes to their personal information online, though, who’s in charge? The Federal Trade Commission has established new rules to make sure that youngsters’ privacy (隐私) is protected while they are online.

Website operators must:

Post the privacy policy. Websites directed to children or to collecting information from kids under 13 must post a notice of their information-collection practices that includes:

*Types of personal information they collect from kids, such as name, home address, e-mail address, or hobby.

*How the site will use the information, for example, to notify contest winners, or make the information available through a child’s participation in a chat room.

*Whether personal information is forwarded to a third party.

Get parental permission. In many cases, a site must obtain parental permission before collecting, using, or disclosing personal information about a child. Permission is not required when a site is collecting an e-mail address to respond to a request from the child, to provide notice to the parent, to ensure the safety of the youngster or the site, or to send a newsletter—as long as the site notifies parents and gives them an opportunity to say no to the arrangement.

Parents should:

Look for a privacy policy on the website. The policy must be available through a link on the website’s homepage, or on the homepage of the section for kids. Read the policy closely. If you find a website that doesn’t post basic protections for children’s personal information, ask for details about their information-collection practices.

Decide whether to give permission. You can give permission and say no later to collecting, using or disclosing your children’s information.

Ask to see the information your child has given. Make sure that your kid’s information isn’t given out improperly.

61. Why has the Federal Trade Commission established new rules?

A. Because the privacy of kids is used for business competition.

B. Because kids are using the Internet in a wrong way.

C. Because the privacy of kids should be safe.

D. Because kids are using the Internet too much.

62.According to the text, which of the following websites must post its privacy policy?

A. A website aimed at children who are to start school.

B.A website aimed at survivors of cancer in childhood.

C. A website aimed at teachers of science.

D.A website aimed at single parents.

63. Without the parents’ permission, website operators CANNOT        .

A. respond to a request from the children

B. take measures to improve the kids’ safety

C. advertise with the children’s picture

D. send newsletters by e-mail

64. The text mainly talks about            .

 A. reducing crime online

 B. reducing false information online

 C. protecting equal competition online

 D. protecting kids’ privacy online
