We have had a class meeting today on whether we should give money to beggars and we have different opinions.

Some believe that we should give money to those who are in bad need of our help. Among these beggars are the elderly, drop-outs and the disabled, who can hardly make a living due to old age, poverty or physical inability. Many more students, however, think we shouldn¡¯t give them money because most of the beggars are begging in hope of earning some easy money. Besides, to give money would encourage them to be lazy even if they have the ability to work.

In general, we should help the people of the inferior group, but we should remain sensible when giving them money.

Besides calling 911, here is what to do in some life-threatening emergencies when no one is around to help.

Lost in the wilderness

First, you¡¯ve got to acknowledge you're in trouble. Stay where you can be seen, clearly and remember to rest. Keeping a sense of humor helps too -- it reduces strum and helps creative thinking. In a wide open area, make a colorful cress out of rocks to show your present position.

Choking

Aim to hit the top of the chair against your stomach, in the soft part below the bony upside-down V of the ribs (Àß¹Ç). Make a sudden push against the chair. If you still can¡¯t breathe after six tries, call 911, even if you can¡¯t talk. Write the word ¡°choking¡± somewhere nearby, and leave the line open until help arrives.

       Severe bleeding

Use your hand or clean cotton, or paper towels, or a scarf, or any cloth you can find, and push down on the wound until the bleeding stops. But if you put a band around your leg tightly, you¡¯re going to close the vessels (Ѫ¹Ü) to the entire leg. In this way, you could loose foot.

Bear attack

If yon surprise a bear, don't run away. That invites an attack. Instead, stand up and back away slowly, without looking the bear in the eyes. If it does charge (Ãͳå) at you, stick out your chest, raise your arms, and spread your legs. Shout at the bear, to frighten it. If it's going to attack, lie facedown, with your hands held firmly behind your neck. Play dead until you're sure the bear is gone.

It was reported today that in China, 56% of people who write blogs(²©¿Í) do so as a personal diary and 83% use their blogs for sending messages to friends. It was also found that there is a strong East- West difference. In places like the US, blogs that offer information on news attract more readers but in China, blogs are more likely to be about sharing personal feelings.

It seems that bloggers can be divided into three types: IT(ÐÅÏ¢¼¼Êõ) bloggers, bloggers who record their ordinary feelings and media£¨Ã½Ì壩 bloggers.

When blogging first started, the IT people had the technological advantage and they took the chance to put their thoughts on the web. Some of these IT people now have had over a million people read their blogs.

The next wave of bloggers did not have any training as writers or in IT and wrote about normal daily life. Media bloggers, however, are trained writers, such as journalists and editors. When the many media bloggers showed up, the everyday bloggers lost most of their readers. Media bloggers have the advantage of knowing how to communicate well through the written words.

However, the normal bloggers are still out there and increasing in number. It seems that blogging is the new way to express your feelings. People feel like the world is listening to, or rather reading, their problems, even if they are not.
