A lot more people are about to get a chance to buy Google Glass. It’s the Internet-connected eyewear that has become the hottest sale.

Google will sell the “Explorer” version(版本) of Glass to any U.S. person who places an online order for the device beginning at 9am. PDT April 15. The product will cost $1,500. Google is saying how many sets of Glass will be available during the limited-time offer.

This version of Glass, though, still isn’t the perfect product that Google hopes to sell in stores later this year.

For now, Google is still trying to recruit(招聘) more people willing to serve as volunteers for its attempt to build a wearable device that features some of the same feature as a smart phone. “ Our Explorers are moms, bakers, surgeons, rockers, and each new Explorer has brought a new view that is making Glass better,” Google said.

The device has a small screen attached above the right eye. A user can check e-mails, see Twitter post or get directions without having to use a phone. It can also take hands-free photos and video through voice-activated(声控的) commands. The ability to record images so easily has raised safely concerns about drivers wearing Glass. The lawmakers have to draw up new rules forbidding use of the device in moving vehicles.

How to Be Successful in School
【小题1】
One really important shortcut (捷径) to success in life is to be successful in school. Examine the relationship between levels of educational achievement and income earned during one’s working life. Education is the best investment (投资) a person can make. The higher one’s level of education, the more income they will be likely to earn and the better life will probably be. Students should make the effort to get the most education they can, and work hard to be successful in school at every level.
【小题2】
Long term means five years or more in the future. Do you want to graduate from college? Get into medical school? Get a law degree? Get an MBA? Get a master’s or PhD? Try to define concrete but realistic long-term goals for yourself. Then focus on them, thinking about them every time you attempt not to do your homework. Make your long-term goals motivations for your behavior every day, because every day does count when it comes to being successful in school. It is also important to have short-term goals that are stepping stones to your long-term goals.
【小题3】
For each of your education goals, develop a strategy and an action plan. A strategy might be to get math tutoring or to study with a group of friends on a regular basis. An action plan will include several individual tasks with timing and any cost that might be required. If you are a student, start now to understand how to generate goals, strategies and action plans that work; this skill can help you to be successful in school and later, in life.
【小题4】
Habits are formed by practice, by doing. Good study habits are formed by studying on a regular basis for the amount of time required to learn something. One of the most essential keys to being successful in school is to develop good study habits. Once good study habits are formed, you will find that learning and success in school become easier.
【小题5】
If you are a teenager or young adult, don’t let your hormones(荷尔蒙) or other people lead you into irresponsible actions. Self-indulgent (自我放纵的) behavior and abusive behavior toward others are self-destructive and unworthy of mature individuals. Work hard to develop strong character by making the virtues of courage, temperance (节制), and justice.

When the seventeenth-century settlers brought the English language to America, they immediately and necessarily began to adapt (使适应) it to their new environment. These changes were early and criticized by some people on both sides of the Atlantic. However, after the Revolution, Americans began to be proud of their own form of English. Noah Webster was the major early supporter of American meanings and spellings over British ones and published the earliest American dictionary, An American Dictionary of the English Language. During the years since Webster, language differences have continued to develop, proving (证明) the truth of George Bernard Shaw’s often-repeated words that the two nations are “divided by a common language”.

Like the American language, the earliest American literature (文学) copied English models. However, after the Revolution and the War of 1812, writers began to create a clear American literature. However, in 1820, Sydney Smith asked the famous question “Who reads an American book?”

Answering to this and similar taunts (讽刺) with creative anger, American writers soon produced works that plenty of British people read. Works by Washing-ton Irving, Walt Whitman, and Mark Twain had been acclaimed greatly in Britain by the end of the nineteenth century.

Even as American writers got respect in Britain, British writers continued to have great influence in America. Charles Dickens went to America twice, in 1842 and 1867-68. Other major British writers who traveled and lived in the United States include D.H. Lawrence and Aldous Huxley. British best works continue to be widely read. The works of William Shakespeare and Jane Austen became popular films.

At the turn of the twenty-first century, many books and writers continue to cross the Atlantic in both directions — made possible by the proud heritage (继承) of the shared language.

1.The author of this passage seems to think ______.

A. British English is better than American English

B. American English is better than British English

C. the same language has divided the two nations

D. the same language has connected the two nations

2.From the question asked by Sydney Smith, we can infer ______.

A. the British looked down upon American books at first

B. the British found American books difficult to understand

C. the British thought highly of books written by Americans

D. the British had to translate American books into English ones

3.The underlined word “acclaimed” in Paragraph 3 probably means “______”.

A. sold B. discussed

C. welcomed D. refused

4.What made it possible for books and writers to cross the Atlantic in both directions?

A. The War of 1812. B. The American Revolution.

C. The language differences. D. The common language.

Audrey Hepburn (奥黛丽·赫本) won an Academy Award as Best Actress for her first major American movie, Roman Holiday, which was released in 1953. But she is remembered as much for her aid work as for her acting.

Born in Belgium in 1929, Audrey’s father was British and her mother was Dutch. Audrey was sent to live at a British school for part of her childhood. During World War II, she lived and studied in the Netherlands. Her mother thought it would be safe from Gerrnan attacks. She travelled all over the world in support of UNICEF (联合国儿童基金会) projects. The UN agency said she was a tireless worker. What is a dream?

For centuries, people have wondered about the strange places that they seem to visit in their sleep. 1. However, they have been valued as necessary to a person's health and happiness.

Historically people thought dreams contained messages from God. It was only in the twentieth century that people started to study dreams scientifically believing that they tell about a person's character. 2. He believed that dreams allow a person to express fantasies or fears, which would be socially unacceptable in real life.

The second theory to become popular was Carl Jung's compensation theory.
