Well, the first place I suggest that you visit is the Great Wall, the longest wall in the world, which is said to be one of the wonders in the world. It has a history of more than twenty centuries. It is amazing to see such a huge wall made entirely by hand.

The other place worth visiting is the Palace Museum, which was built in 1406. Twenty-four emperors once lived there, from there the ruling emperors issued orders. You can learn a lot about Chinese history by visiting this Palace.

What a pity that you can¡¯t stay longer. Otherwise, you could visit many other historic places and beautiful scenes such as Summer Palace, Beihai park. and so on.

Everyone knows that the Frenchmen are romantic, the Italians are fashionable and the Germans are serious. Are these just stereotypes or is there really such a thing as national character? And if there is, can it affect how a nation succeed or fail?

At least one group of people is certain that it can. A recent survey of the top 500 entrepreneurs (ÆóÒµ¼Ò) in the UK found that 70% felt that their efforts were not appreciated by the British public. Britain is hostile (µÐÒâµÄ) to success, they said. It has a culture of jealousy(¼µ¶Ê). ¡¾1¡¿ Jealousy is sometimes known as the ¡°green ¨C eyed monster¡± and the UK is its home.

Scientists at Warwich University in the UK recently tested this idea. They gathered a group of people together and gave each an imaginary amount of money. ¡¾2¡¿Those given a little were given the chance to destroy the large amount of money given to others ¨C but at the cost of losing their own. Two thirds of the people tested agreed to do this.

¡¾3¡¿ . But there is also opposite evidence. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development recently reported that the UK is now the world¡¯s fourth largest economy. That is not bad for people who are supposed to hate success. People in the UK also work longer hours than anyone else in Europe. So the British people are not lazy, either.

¡°It is not really success that the British dislike,¡± says Carey Cooper, a professor of management at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. ¡°It¡¯s people using their success in a way that seems proud or unfair or which separates them from their roots.¡±

¡¾4¡¿ They set out to do things in their way. They work long hours. By their own efforts they become millionaires. ¡¾5¡¿ It hardly seems worth following their example. If they were more friendly, people would like them more. And more people want to be like them.

A. This seems to prove that the entrepreneurs were right to complain.

B. The one who owns most money in the end is the winner.

C. As a result, the survey said, entrepreneurs were ¡°unloved, unwanted and misunderstood.¡±

D. It is not true that British people are born jealous of others` success.

E. Some were given a little, others a great deal.

F. But instead of being happy they complain that nobody loves them.

G. Perhaps it is the entrepreneurs who are the problem.

To be more grateful in life means that you are also allowing yourself to be happier, more contented and more satisfied with everything that has been going on around you. But with all the stress, all the disappointments and all the anxiety around you, I bet you ask yourself this question all the time: ¡®How exactly can I be more grateful with my life?" ¡¾1¡¿ .

1. Learn to live in the moment.

Life is a wonderful adventure full of enriching experiences and endless possibilities. Don't just go through the motions of repetitive activities and boring tasks. No! Being a mindless zombie can make you more likely to take things for granted. ¡¾2¡¿ , make an effort to enjoy the experience. You're supposed to attend a conference? Absorb it. Babysit your niece? Enjoy the moment. Eat a 15-minute lunch? Taste each bite.

2. ¡¾3¡¿ .

Being aware of your goal to be more grateful can help you look for things to be really more grateful for. Gratitude is a conscious decision. You have to practice it consistently.

3. Control your thoughts.

Of course you have the power to control what you' re thinking of! Consider this exercise, for example if you find yourself thinking more and more self-entided, stop. ¡¾4¡¿ .You are given[consciousness. Make use of it wisely.

4. Always resist the temptation of comparing yourself with other people.

As humans, we have the natural tendency to compare ourselves with others with the hope of attaining satisfaction. Actually, this kind of activity does not help you feel to be more grateful in life. ¡¾5¡¿£¡You will always be meeting someone richer, which makes you feel inferior to others! Don't do it, please.

Every little thing counts. You have the ability to make yourself feel to be more grateful in your life.

A£®It does the opposite

B. Express gratitude all the time

C. Appreciate what you have right now

D. And if you find yourself repeating negative junk, stop

E. Instead of doing something just for the sake of doing it

F. Well, the following are some tips to help you with this particular concern

G. Words that stress you and make you feel worthless should definitely be removed

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Phil White has just returned from an 18,000-mile, around-the-world bicycle trip. White had two reasons for making this epic journey. First of all, he wanted to use the trip to raise money for charity, which he did. He raised ¡ê70,000 for the British charity, Oxfam. White's second reason for making the trip was to break the world record and become the fastest person to cycle around the world. He is still waiting to find out if he has broken the record or not.

White set off from Trafalgar Square, in London, on 19th June 2004 and was back 299 days later. He spent more than l,300 hours in the saddle£¨³µ×ù£© and destroyed four sets of tyres and three bike chains. He had the adventure of his life crossing Europe, the Middle East, India, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Americas. Amazingly, he did all of this with absolutely no support team. No jeep carrying food, water and medicine. No doctor. Nothing! Just a bike and a very, very long road.

The journey was lonely and desperate at times. He also had to fight his way across deserts, through jungles and over mountains. He cycled through heavy rains and temperatures of up to 45 degrees, all to help people in need. There were other dangers along the road. In Iran, he was chased by armed robbers and was lucky to escape with his life and the little money he had. The worst thing that happened to him was having to cycle into a headwind on a road that crosses the south of Australia. For l,000 kilometers he battled against the wind that was constantly pushing him. This part of the trip was slow, hard work and depressing, but he made it in the end. Now Mr. White is back and intends to write a book about his adventures.

¡¾1¡¿When Phil White returned from his trip, he________.

A. broke the world record B. collected money for Oxfam

C. destroyed several bikes D. travelled about 1 300 hours

¡¾2¡¿What does the word "epic" in Paragraph l most probably mean?

A. Very slow but exciting. B. Very long and difficult.

C. Very smooth but tiring. D. Very lonely and depressing.

¡¾3¡¿During his journey around the world, Phil White _______.

A. fought heroically against robbers in Iran

B. experienced the extremes of heat and cold

C. managed to ride against the wind in Australia

D. had a team of people who travelled with him

¡¾4¡¿Which of the following words can best describe Phil White?

A. Imaginative. B. Independent.

C. Modest. D. Determined.
