My parents and I made a tour to Xi¡¯an last summer holiday. Instead of having a travel agency arranging our transportation and accommodation, we booked the train tickets and hotel rooms on the Internet by us. During our tour in Xi¡¯an, we went to many places of interests and took lots of photos, learned about the history of Xi¡¯an. No tourists would miss the local food in Xi¡¯an, so would we. We enjoyed the typically local food, it tasted more delicious than we had expected. Hardly had I returned than I shared the photos and experiences for my classmates. The trip to Xi¡¯an has been such happy memory to me that I will never forget it.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿Why is setting goals important? ___¡¾1¡¿___ Instead of just letting life happen to you, goals allow you to make your life happen. Successful people imagine how their life should be and set lots of goals.
By setting goals you are taking control of your life. It's like having a map to show you where you want to go. Think of it this way. There are two drivers. One has a destination in mind which can be found on a map. She can drive straight there surely without any wasted time of wrong turns. ___¡¾2¡¿___ She starts off at the same time from the same place as the first driver, but she drives aimlessly around, never getting anywhere, just using up gas. Which driver do you want to be?
Winners in life set goals and follow them through. They decide what they want in life and then get there by making plans and setting goals. ___¡¾3¡¿___ Goals aren't difficult to set and they aren't difficult to reach.
___¡¾4¡¿__ You are the one who must decide what to achieve and in what direction to aim your life.
Research tells us that when we write a goal down we are more likely to achieve it. ___ ¡¾5¡¿__ Like a contract(ºÏͬ) with yourself, they are harder to neglect or forget. Also when you write your goals in a particular way, you are able to make yourself continuously aware of situations that will bring you nearer to your goal.
A£®Because everybody should have a goal in his mind.
B£®Unsuccessful people usually just let life happen by accident.
C£®The other driver has no goal, or destination or map.
D£®It's difficult for a driver to reach his destination without a map.
E£®It's up to you to find out what your goals really are.
F£®Because goals can help you do, be, and experience everything you want in life.
G£®Written goals can be reviewed regularly, and have more power.

Speaking of city life, we always think of tall buildings, crowded street and comfortable living conditions. Therefore, there is too much pollution in the city. Citizens had to put up with noises and harmful gases. What about country life? The first thought comes into our minds is peace and quietness. Villagers breathe freshly air and enjoy clean water. But this is known to all that life in the country is much more difficult than those in the city. Besides, life in the country lacks of the excitement of our modern times. In my opinion, if we human beings pay enough attention to protect the environment and natural resources, we will be able enjoy our life to the fullest.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿I got invited to go with some friends to a game at another school. A senior will be driving us, and I think she¡¯s a good driver, but it¡¯s someone my parents don¡¯t know. I want to tell my parents where I¡¯m going, but what if I ask and they say ¡°no¡±? I¡¯ll end up wishing I never mentioned it and just went ahead and did it anyway.
If you want more privileges, it¡¯s best to build a track record of honesty and trust. Letting a parent know where you¡¯re going is always a good idea.
You may worry that telling your parents puts you at risk of getting ¡°no¡± for an answer. But there¡¯s a good chance your parents might be OK with you going. If you go but don¡¯t tell them, you risk losing something more important ¡ª your parents¡¯ trust.
Parents who find out their kids did something behind their backs may be less likely to give permission to do things in the future. When trust is broken like this, parents wonder if teens are trying to hide something ¡ª and what they imagine can be far worse than the reality.
Before you talk to your parents about the game, think about which approach will help them feel most comfortable with giving you more freedom. Maybe they¡¯d like to meet the person driving or talk to friends who have driven with her in the past. If your parents have questions or hesitate about letting you go, find out what their worries are and then do your best to answer them.
¡¾1¡¿From Paragraph 1 we know that the writer _________.
A. appears nervous B. feels confused
C. looks worried D. seems discouraged
¡¾2¡¿What is the best way to get parents¡¯ permission according to the passage?
A. To get more privileges from them.
B. To risk gaining their permission.
C. To keep off the track of reality.
D. To be honest and win their trust.
¡¾3¡¿What does the writer really want to tell us?
A. Which effective approach to use.
B. How to deal with strict parents.
C. How to win over parents.
D. How to get freedom from parents.
¡¾4¡¿Who do you think the passage is intended for?
A. Parents. B. Friends. C. Drivers. D. Teenagers.

¡¾ÌâÄ¿¡¿¡°Clean your plate!¡± Just about every kid in the US has heard this from a parent. Often, it is accompanied by an appeal: ¡°Just think about those starving orphans in Africa!¡± Sure, we should be grateful for every bite of food. Unfortunately, many people in the US take too many bites. Instead of staying ¡°clean the plate¡±, perhaps we should save some food for tomorrow.
According to news reports, US restaurants are partly to blame for the growing bellies. A waiter puts a plate of food in front of each customer, with two to four times the amount recommended by the government, according to a USA Today story. Americans traditionally associate quantity with value and most restaurants try to give them that. They prefer to have customers complain about too much food rather than too little.
Barbara Rolls, a nutrition professor at Pennsylvania State University, told USA Today that restaurant portion sizes began to grow in the 1970s, the same time that the American waistline began to expand.
Health experts have tried to get many restaurants to serve smaller portions. Now, apparently, some customers are calling for this too. The restaurant industry trade believed restaurants serve portions that are too large; 23 percent had no opinion; 20 percent disagreed. But a closer look at the survey indicates that many Americans who can¡¯t afford fine dining still prefer large portions. 70 percent of those earning at least ¡ç150,000 per year prefer smaller portions; but only 45 percent of those earning less than¡ç25,000 want smaller.
It¡¯s not that working class Americans don¡¯t want to eat healthy, It¡¯s just that, after long hours at low-paying jobs, getting less on their plate hardly seems like a good deal. They live from paycheck to paycheck, happy to save a little money for next year¡¯s Christmas presents.
¡¾1¡¿¡°Clean your plate!¡± in the first paragraph means ______ .
A. to wash the plate B. not to eat too much
C. not to waste the food D. to help the starving orphans
¡¾2¡¿American restaurants serve large portions because ______ .
A. Americans are good at eating B. Americans value the amount
C. the restaurants want people to keep healthy D. the government recommend s the amount
¡¾3¡¿What happened in the 1970s?
A. The government recommended serving small portion.
B. Americans began to realize the importance of health.
C. Health experts persuaded restaurants to serve large portion.
D. People in the United States began to gain weight.
¡¾4¡¿What does the survey indicate?
A. Many poor Americans want large portions.
B. 20 percent Americans want smaller portions.
C. 70 percent Americans earn at least ¡ç150,000 per year.
D. 45 percent Americans earn less than ¡ç25,000 per year.
