Recently an earthquake struck Wenchuan, Sichuan Province, which reminds us of the earthquake that happened in Tangshan, Hebei Province 30 years ago. Both earthquakes do not differ much in terms of scale, but differ greatly in terms of number of people killed and injured. The number of people killed by the Tangshan earthquake is three times that of the Wenchuan earthquake and the number of people injured is twice as big. This is probably because the former occurred at night and the latter during the daytime. The two earthquakes also differ in that the former happened in the rural area while the latter in a big city.
