Overhead bridges are used in very much 意为"立过街天桥经常被使用",下文提及 way as zebra crossings 意为"和斑马线的方式",两种方式都是用来安全地过马路,所以两种方式是一样的(same)。
上文提及 more efficient 使用了肯定语气的比较级,再结合下文 people have to climb up a long flight of steps 意为"人们必须要爬很长一段楼梯",所以可以推测此处为较不方便,否定形式的比较级。
This is why the government has built many overhead bridges
make 作为本句谓语动词,填空处后有 a habit to use them,可以推测 a habit to use them 是宾语补足语进一步解释填空处的宾语,to use them 为真正宾语,填空处应该填入形式宾语 it。

Nicholas was not an overconfident guy. He also told me his mum was only out of hospital and now he’d be able to help her get about.

Spider monkeys have long, thin arms with hook-like hands that allow them to swing through the trees. They do not have opposable thumbs
The brown-headed spider monkey has a prehensile (缠绕性的) tail, which means it can grasp and can be used like a fifth leg to grab trees. During the day, the spider monkey searches for fruits, which make up the main part of its diet. They will also eat flowers, seeds, leaves, and small insects during the dry season when fruits aren’t available. They spend most of the daylight hours climbing and swinging through the high branches of trees.
The brown-headed spider monkey lives in a large community of about 20 to 100 male and female monkeys. They split into smaller groups for feeding. Females usually give birth to only a single baby each year or two. Young monkeys are carried on their mothers’ stomachs until about 16 weeks old. Then they are strong enough to ride on their mothers, backs. All brown-headed spider monkey babies are born with pink faces and ears.
Spider monkeys hug each other and wrap their tails around each other. They are very intelligent and have strong memories. They were named spider monkeys because they look like spiders as they hang upside down from their tails with their arms and legs swinging. Their genus (属) name is Ateles, which means “imperfect”. Green building refers to both a structure and the using of processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle. Green buildings can also refer to environmentally friendly houses, factories, and offices.
Green building means “reducing the effect of the building on the land”, Taryn Holowka of the U. S. Green Building Council (评议会)in Washington, D, C, said. According to Holowka, building accounts for 65 percent of total US, electricity use.
But green buildings can reduce energy and water use- Also, the buildings are often located near public transportation such as buses and subways, so that people can drive their cars less. That could be good for the environment, because cars use lots of gas and give off pollution. Green buildings are often built on developed land, so that the buildings don’t destroy forests.
Marty Dettling is project manager for a building that puts these ideas into action. The Solaire has been called the country's first green high-rise building. According to Dettling, “We’ve reduced our energy use by one-third and our water by 50 percent.”
The Solaire cuts energy in part by using solar power. “On the face of the building we have solar panels which change the sun's energy into electricity,” Dettling explained.
The Solaire also has lights that automatically turn off when people leave the room. In addition, the building has lots of windows, allowing people to use the sun for light during the day. The Solaire cuts water by reusing it.
Not everyone is eager to move into a green building, however. Some people think that things like solar panels cost more money than more traditional energy sources. Anyhow, Holowka said, “It’s going to be big.”
【1】A green building is often built on an area of land ________.
A. where traveling around by car is most convenient
B. which has thick forests around
C. where people of high income live
D. which has already been for buildings
【2】A green building means ________.
A. a building that uses no electricity
B. a green-colored building
C. a building occupying less land
D. a building that saves energy and water
【3】When Holowka says in the last paragraph, “It’s going to be big”, she means that green buildings ________.
A. will be more comfortable
B. will be more environmentally friendly
C. will become popular in future
D. will take the place of traditional buildings

Robots make me nervous—especially the ones which seem to think for themselves. I was embarrassed to admit this till I heard that Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, felt the same way.
Gates said in an interview with the social networking and news website Reddit: “I am in the camp that is concerned about super intelligence. First the machines will do a lot of jobs for us and not be super intelligent. That should be positive if we manage well. A few decades after that though the intelligence is strong enough to be a concern.”
Well, maybe I don’t have to worry about my computer and kitchen equipment yet. After I use them I can always pull the plug. But in the future, machines might find a way to prevent us from switching them off. There’s a terrible thought!
Maybe the problem with computers too clever for us is not that they are evil like some we’ve seen in sci-fi movies. What could put us in danger is that they might be too efficient. That’s what philosopher Nick Bostrom from Oxford University believes. He says that machines are indifferent (漠然) to humans and in pursuit of their own goals, the destruction of people might be just additional damage. Bostrom gives us an example: A machine which might have as its only goal to produce as many paperclips as possible might look at human bodies as extra material for paperclips and go after you. Because it is, well, a machine, it would not take pity on you.
It’s a good thing that American writer Isaac Asimov thought about how far robots can go and left us his three rules of robotics. They state that a robot may not hurt a human being or allow the human being to come to harm.
I’m glad my machines at home are “dumb”. All my cleaner wants to take over is the carpet in my living room. Let’s hope they don’t create an appliance which wants to take over the world!
【1】The author quoted Bill Gates’ words in Paragraph 2 in order to make the text ________.
A. better-knownB. more persuasive
C. better-organizedD. more interesting
【2】An intelligent paperclip machine would harm us because ________.
A. it is much cleverer than us
B. it would take over the world
C. it would see us just as material
D. it has the strong feeling of destroying us
【3】How does the author feel about Isaac Asimov’s rules of robotics?
A. OptimisticB. SympathyC. DisappointedD. Regretful
【4】What does the text mainly focus on?
A. The benefits of future robots.
B. The new applications of robots.
C. The concern for super intelligence.
D. The popularity of robots in the future.
