【题目】We were on our way home from Houston one Saturday morning. We decided to stop at a local gas station to get coffee and something to snack on since it was a good hour and a half before we got home.

When we were done, we got back into our car and before I started it, we noticed a man standing outside in front of the building. He was a homeless man with worn clothes and it looked like he had gone in and gotten himself some coffee or something warm to drink since it was cold this time of the year. He must have not had enough money to get something to eat.

Then a dog walked up to the front of the building. I could tell she was a “she”, because you could tell that she had baby dogs. She was terribly in need of something to eat and I felt so bad for her. I knew if she didn’t eat soon, she and her baby dogs would not make it.

I and my wife sat there and looked at her. We noticed that people walked by and didn’t even pet her, like most people do when they walk by an animal in front of a store. We still did not do anything. But the homeless man, who I thought did not buy himself anything to eat, went back into the store. And what he did brought tears to me and my wife. He had gone into the store and with what money he may have had, bought a can of dog food and fed that dog.

This story plays a great part in our lives. You see, that was Mother’s Day weekend. And a lot of people forget that some animals are parents too.

It took a homeless man, to show me what I should have done. He made me a better man that day.

C. the store only provided drinks D. he didn’t have enough money for food

2Seeing what the poor man did for the dog, the author and his wife ________.

3If the homeless man hadn’t given the dog food to eat,she and her babies would ________.

A. not have to die B. not survive

C. have to attack people D. lose their homes

4Which of the following is the most suitable title for this passage?

A. Animals Are Parents Too. B. A Lucky Mother Dog.

C. Mother’s Day Weekend. D. A kind Homeless Man.

【题目】阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
Have you ever run into a careless cell phone user on the street? Perhaps they were busy talking, texting or checking updates on WeChat without looking at what was going on around them. As the number of this new “species” of human has kept rising, they have been given a new name—phubbers(低头族).
Recently, a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this group of people under the spotlight. In the short film, phubbers with various social identities(身份) bury themselves in their phones. A doctor plays with his cell phone while letting his patient die, a pretty woman takes selfie in front of a car accident site, and a father loses his child without knowing about it while using his mobile phone. A chain of similar events eventually leads to the destruction of the world.
Although the ending sounds overstated, the damage phubbing can bring is real.
Your health is the first to bear the effect and result of it. “Constantly bending your head to check your cell phone could damage your neck,” Guangming Daily quoted doctors as saying. “the neck is like a rope that breaks after long-term stretching.” Also, staring at cell phones for long periods of time will damage your eyesight gradually, according to the report.
But that's not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family. At reunions with family or friends, many people tend to stick to their cell phones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange atmosphere, Qilu Evening News reported.
It can also cost you your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their cell phones in broad daylight.
(1)For what purpose does the author give the example of a cartoon in Paragragh2?
A.To inform people of the bad effects of phubbing.
B.To advertise the cartoon made by students.
C.To indicate the world will finally be destroyed by phubbers.
D.To warn doctors against using cell phones while treating patients.
(2)Which of the following is NOT a risk a phubber may have?
A.His social skills could be affected.
B.His neck and eyesight will be gradually harmed.
C.He will cause the destruction of the world.
D.He might get separated from his friends and family.
(3)Which of the following may be the author's attitude towards phubbing?
A.Supportive.
B.Opposed.
C.Optimistic.
D.Objective.
(4)What may the passage talk about next?
A.Advice on how to use a cell phone.
B.People addicted to phubbing.
C.Measures to reduce the risks of phubbing.
D.Consequences of phubbing.

【题目】As a videogame producer, John Day has created popular games such as “Meet the Robinsons”, “Car 2” and “Toy Story 3”.

When he was young, Day spent lots of time playing videogames, but getting game ideas from his imagination to the screen required plenty of technical know-how, too. Luckily for Day, his father worked in the computer industry and shared his knowledge. However, Day says, “Each time he caught me playing games as a kid, his trademark phrase was, ‘You’re never going to amount to anything, wasting all that time on these videogames.’”

“I built my first PC when I was 11,” Day says, “and I never really stopped.”

While studying business management in college, Day also worked as a game tester. Both his education and job experience help him now as he comes up with new ideas, meets deadlines and solves problems.

A videogame producer is in charge of a game’s development from beginning to end. Day says, “All producers have to be designers, at least a little bit.” Another part of Day’s job is getting things done on time and within budget. “We have to create a product before a certain date, and it takes work to get there.” Sometimes that can be a challenge. Problems come up often when he’s working on a game, and in his fast-paced industry, missing a deadline is not allowed.

In his job, Day answers to many people who are expecting high-quality games. That’s a lot of responsibility, but Day believes these demands help him do his job better. Part of the excitement for him is not just playing a game, but also being able to share it with others.

“With a finished product, it’s really great to finally be able to sit down with my friends and family, and say, ‘Look, this is what I’ve been doing all this time. Let’s play it together.’”

1As a kid, John Day .

A. lacked imagination

B. didn’t do well in his lessons

C. was crazy about videogames

3What does Paragraph 5 mainly talk about?

【题目】We all have one, don’t we? A friend who's always late. The one who turns up for coffee a full half hour after the appointed time.1 The dear pal who sends a message saying "Sorry, bit delayed. ", when they’re already 20 minutes behind schedule. Or just maybe, if you’re really honest, this persistently lardy (拖延的)individual is actually youself.

2.

How on earth can people be so inconsiderate?

Recent research suggest that there might be more to this than simple rudeness. Psychologists from Washington University believe people view time differently. 3. It even provided them with a clock. Despite this, some people became so absorbed in the activity that they completely forgot to cheek the clock.

4. The less punctual among us often share characteristics such as “optimism, low levels of self-control, anxiety.” Why optimism, you ask? Optimists tend to overestimate how much they can achieve and underestimate problems, which means they don’t account for the long traffic jam on the way to meet you for that coffee.

Here's another thought: maybe language is to blame? The English phrase “to be fashionably late” is used to describe the proper time to arrive at an event. If you're too early, you can appear overly eager, but if you’re bit late, you seem cool and sophisticated(老练的).The problem is, what one person regards as fashionably late, another may view as plain impolite.

5.

A. Our personality also plays a role

B. Keep a distance from those full of excuses

C. Next time you have coffee, do try to be on time

D. The one who seems lo be forever “stuck in traffic"

E. Either way, lateness can be extremely annoying to the receiving end

F. Participants were required to set down how long they finished a task

G. Their study gave participants a specific amount of time to complete a task
