I think the sentence offers us a suggestion on what we should pay attention to when dealing with the important things. Doing something important, unconsciously we tend to think too highly of the possible difficulties, which will surely be bad for our confidence. “Simple” here means clear awareness of ourselves and the possible difficulties. Take the coming entrance examination for example, if we lack of confidence and always worry about the difficulties, how can we devote ourselves to our study?
