London---Lazy students can now give up on work altogether as two Oxford University students have made scores of A-grade essays (论文) on the website for students to copy. The essays are on the new website “revise it”. The website includes an “Essay Lab” designed to make cheating (舞弊) as effective and effortless as possible.

Its homepage announces to surfers (网上冲浪者) ; “Its Essay Lab is a bank of hundreds of A-level essays covering popular topics.”

“Next time you are asked to write an essay why not see what we have on the subject-if you are in a lazy state of mind you can even use our guide to writing the essays and then just hand them in.”

Nick Rose and Jordan Mayo, both 19 and first from Manchester, spent much of their first year as students at the university setting up the website. There is no charge for downloading the essays.

“I have never been very good at essay writing,” Rose admitted. “We don't see essay bank as a cheating way. It's a surprising valuable resource. You can learn a lot by reading other people's work on the subject.”

Among other tips , the website suggests inventing important speeches to give essays extra weight: “Popular people to quote (引用) are Douglas Hurd or Disraeli.”

Hurd was a foreign secretary in the 1980s and Disraeli was a 19th century prime minister. Teachers are expressing their opinions by e-mail that they are angry about the website that “encourages students to cheat”, but students disagree. According to Rose: “Exams are a fight. It's us against them.”

The home of the future won’t be completely different and we will be living in houses and flats just as we do today. But people will want to shape their homes to match their dreams. No two homes will be the same.People will be able to buy “house kits” containing a basic house structure, with movable walls, doors and windows. They will put together the different parts to create the home they want.

Many jobs that we do today will disappear, others will still exist but will change and new jobs will be created. Skilled workers such as builders, gardeners and electricians won’t disappear because machines can’t replace them. Teachers will still exist because students need human contact. But they will be using modern technology in class more and students will be working more from home. The medical technology revolution and space travel will create new jobs which we can only imagine today.

Space holidays will develop in the future, but these holidays won’t be for everyone because they won’t be cheap. Short space trips will develop first, then space hotels will orbit the earth where it will be possible to have a longer vacation. By the end of the next century, there will be holiday centres on the moon with leisure facilities for families.

Paper won’t exist in the future. Instead, there will be e-paper which people will be able to use over and over again. This will develop in order to save natural resources. E-newspapers and e-magazines will replace traditional newspapers and magazines and we will download information and news articles from the Internet every day onto our reuseable paper.

The laws of physics tell us that the earth is going to disappear some time in the future. This isn’t going to happen tomorrow but scientists predict that it will happen in five billion years when our sun explodes (爆炸).We will have to explore the universe and find another home. Sports can help you keep fit and get in touch with nature. However, whether you are on the mountains, in the waves, or on the grassland, you should be aware that your sport of choice might have great influence on the environment.

Some sports are resource-hungry. Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside, but also tons of water. Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its courses (球场) in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example, in the dry regions of Portugal and Spain, golf is often held responsible for serious water shortage in some local areas.

There are many environment-friendly sports. Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You don’t need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes; and you don’t have to worry about resources and your purse. Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit. If you walk regularly, it will be good for your heart and bones. Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control.

Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environment-friendly equipment and buying products made from recycled materials. But the final goal should be “green gyms”. They are better replacements for traditional health clubs and modern sports centers. Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the countryside or other open spaces. There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best of all, it’s free.

1.Which of the following is the author most probably in favor of?

A. Cycling around a lake.

B. Motor racing in the desert.

C. Playing basketball in a gym.

D. Swimming in a sports center.

2.What do we know about golf from the passage?

A. It is popular in Portugal and Spain.

B. It causes water shortages around the world.

C. It pollutes the earth with chemicals and wastes.

D. It needs water and electricity to keep its courses green.

3.The author uses power walking as an example mainly because _________.

A. it is an outdoor sport

B. it improves our health

C. it uses fewer resources

D. it is recommended by experts

4.The author writes the passage to _________.

A. show us the function of major sports

B. encourage us to go in for green sports

C. discuss the major influence of popular sports

D. introduce different types of environment-friendly sports

In 2003 I wrote an article about high gas prices in North America. Here we are about to be in a particular state of 2007 and the price at the pump is vastly higher. This is not a surprising turn of events when we look at all the reasons for the high gas prices we are paying at the pump and on our heating bills.

The usually argued idea by people suffering under high prices is that the oil and gas companies themselves are fixing the pricing system. The majority will find this as reason number one. Most Canadians love to lay the blame on the taxes applied at the pump, and how the oil companies gouge(榨取)the consumers, but they and the media in Canada are ignoring the more important causes.

In Canada, most are unaware that the National Energy Policy, or NEP, has lost its effects partly in the advance of free trade. No longer can the Canadian government try to set up Canadian pricing for oil and gas that is produced and sold in Canada. We completely lost that ability when we signed onto the North American Free Trade Agreement(NAFTA).

What this means is that Canada now has little control over supplies and pricing within our own country. During the free trade negotiations(谈判)the Mexican negotiators had enough ability to prevent writing the American suggestion into law that both Canada and Mexico must hand over a full two thirds of all of our natural gas production. This leaves Canadians paying world market money charged for something that they themselves export.

Right now Canada ships some two million barrels of oil a day south; yet we cannot do anything about setting national pricing structures, thanks to the free trade agreements.

This is not the whole story though. Even if we were to put an end to NAFTA which is our right under the agreement, we may have already given away too much of our resource. In 1997 there were 41 large Canadian oil companies in Canada. Today there are only six. Of the 35 that on longer exist, U.S. companies bought out 21. This is a disturbing trend of foreign takeovers of Canadian natural resources.

1.Most Canadians think high gas prices are caused by            .

A.the high expenses for laying the pumps for oil transport.

B.the complete control over gas from oil companies

       C. the high taxes collected by gas companies

       D. the less gas production in the whole world

2.According to the article, what’s the influence of NAFTA on Canada?

A.It has reduced the number of its oil companies.

B.Its natural resources have become less and less.

C.Its national policy on oil has almost been destroyed.

D.Its oil prices are fixed by foreign countries on the whole.

3.What does “that ability” in paragraph 3 refer to?

A.To produce and sell the gas.

B.To set up Canadian pricing for oil.

C.To trade freely around the world.

       D.To prevent the American suggestion.

4.According to the article, whose profits is the author concerned about?

       A.Canadian.                                            B.American.

       C.Mexican.                                            D.North American.

5.This article is probably            .

A.a lecture in a school                             B.a speech on natural resources

C.a notice in public                     D.a comment on latest affairs
