【题目】The Loss of Innocence

Innocence is such a precious gift. Its explained as freedom from guilt or wrong doing. Just imagine never having to worry about anything and having a guilt free mind. Some people wish to save this kind of innocence from being lost from childhood to adulthood.

What would the world be like if innocence were never lost? One way it would benefit humanity is the lack of hatred (仇恨) among the world. During youth, there may be an occasional argument, even a little physical fight, but nothing like firing a handgun at a fellow human being. And children are blind towards the racial differences of others. A kid will hang out with any other kid. It is the lack of innocence and the ignorance we learn from adults that influence children otherwise. Another benefit is the constant desire for fun and adventure. With very little if any time at all for fun, the adventurous mind is lost in time with the responsibilities placed upon adults. If innocence were kept alive, these ambitions would never depart from our lives.

However, other people actually hate the idea of innocence lasting forever. They feel that the lack of organization and mental power of those with innocence would cause extremely destructive consequences to society in general. A large number of individuals would never have the urge to learn, work, and act upon the necessary needs for humanity to survive. Without a proper education which is usually provided by those who no longer live in a world of innocence, people would not have the desire to succeed, get a good job in life, or provide income for their families, which would hurt the lives of children.

The lack of a good education and career would also harm the economy. As long as innocence is kept alive, no one would be terribly angered at the lack of effort people put out in the workplace, resulting in a strong decline in production and quality of needed goods.

Maybe it is wrong in wanting to save innocence. It sure is a nice thought, though. Perhaps innocence was meant to be lost. It was gods will to make things the way they are, and there is a good purpose for everything. All that remains to be said about innocence is to enjoy it while it lasts.

试题分析:本文讲述了童真一直存在的好处和不利。

【1】推理判断题。根据最后一段Perhaps innocence was meant to be lost.It was gods will to make things the way they are, and there is a good purpose for everything. All that remains to be said about innocence is to enjoy it while it lasts.可以得知,作者对于成年后童真消失是接受的,认为这是正常的过程。

【2】推理判断题。由第二段One way it would benefit humanity is the lack of hatred (仇恨)among the world. And children are blind towards the racial differences of others.可知,童真可以让世界远离仇恨。孩子们对他人没有种族歧视,如果人一生都有童真的话,人类就不会有种族歧视,故选B。

【3】推理判断题。由倒数第二段The lack of a good education and career would also harm the economy.可知,没有好的教育和生涯,会对经济发展有害,人们没有上进心就会使社会失去发展动力。故选A。

【4】推理判断题。这篇文章对innocence进行了辩论,列举了innocence如果一直存在带来的两方面的好处,然后又论证了不利的方面,所以逻辑结构符合A选项。

Recent studies have shown that challenging your brain, by spurring (刺激) the brain to create new patterns, is very important to keep your brain active and healthy as you age. Lifelong learning is a health club for our minds, bodies and spirits. This is why we parents should also teach our children to be lifelong learners. Dr. Marilyn Price-Mitchell, an American psychologist, and youth development expert, shares some ways for us to do this.

1. Ask questions.

When your child asks you a question, don't answer it straight away. Instead, help him or her bring up “questions that pique their curiosity.” This way, we help children make connections between what they're learning at school and the world beyond their classroom. We also show them that learning does not, and should not, end when one is “done with school” — it's actually a lifelong process!

2. Let them fail.

Our kids love learning about different scientific concepts (概念) viaThe Magic School Busvideos on YouTube. And one of the characters, Miss Frizzle (the science teacher) always says this phrase: “Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy.” I always quote (引述) her when the kids say they're afraid to do or learn something because they might do it wrong or make a mistake. If we don't allow our kids to fail, they won't be able to learn to “use mistakes and failures to make lifelong learning easier,” as Dr. Price-Mitchell says.

3. Learn through experience.

This is very true for all of us, especially children. In the words of Dr. Price-Mitchell, “Learning through experience, not just from books, is one of the best ways to give the youth the skills they need for lifelong learning, living, and working in the 21st century.”

Of course, we should also set an example for our children — by learning continuously, and expanding our knowledge and experiences.

1What does the underlined word “pique” in the text probably mean?

A. Change.

B. Awaken.

C. Balance.

D. Prevent.

2What's the author's attitude to what Miss Frizzle always says?

A. Worried.

B. Doubtful.

C. Uncaring.

D. Supportive.

3Which of the following shows the importance of learning through experience?

A. Learning is not child's play; we cannot learn without pain.

B. It is not that I'm so smart. But I stay with the questions much longer.

C. If you don't learn to think when you are young, you may never learn.

D. Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.

4In which part of a newspaper will the text most probably appear?

A. Health.

【题目】阅读理解。

You know how wonderful you are, and you know that others know how wonderful you are, but what do you do when admiration crosses over the line into jealousy (嫉妒)? For most teens there will come a day when you realize that one of your friends is jealous and that this jealousy is hurting your friendship. When this happens it can seem like there is nothing that you can do, but the good news is that there is. Don't let jealousy spoil your friendship. Deal with it confidently and you might be back to normal much sooner than you think.

It can be hard to walk up to a friend and ask them what the problem is, but if you want to save your friendship you'll have to do just that. Don't approach them and ask why they are jealous of you unless of course you want to appear totally conceited (逞能的), just take some time alone with them and let them know that you've been feeling like there's been something coming between you. If they refuse to respond, then use the opportunities to explain how you have been feeling. Chances are that something you say will strike a nerve and your friend will open up as well.

When you figure out what is annoying your friend, ask him or her what (s)he thinks would make the situation better. If, for example, (s)he says that (s)he feels like (s)he doesn't get to spend any time with you because of your being off with your new friends from the swim team then maybe you could invite him or her along the next time or block off one day a week for just the two of you. Remember, though, that whatever solution you decide on should be a compromise. Don't limit your own talents or opportunities simply because your friend is unhappy. Try instead to include him or her in your new life and see how that works out.

Even the best of friendships can be ruined by jealousy. This destructive emotion is rarely productive and can turn best friends into worst enemies. Before taking extreme action, chat with your jealous friend to see if the two of you can work out a compromise. If you can't, be prepared to know exactly how far you will go to keep your friend and how far you won't.

【1】According to the author, the jealousy emotion is ________.

A.normal B.productive

C.destructive D.extreme

【2】What does the author intend to tell us in paragraph 2?

A.How to solve the problem of jealousy.

B.Why we need to solve the problem of jealousy.

C.How to explain your jealousy to your friends.

D.Why it is hard to deal with the problem of jealousy.

【3】What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?

A.There's always a solution to solve the problem of jealousy.

B.Jealousy can turn best friends into worst enemies.

C.You may lose a friend to keep your own gifts, chances or selfdevelopment.

D.You should go a long way with your friend to work out a solution.

【4】This passage is mainly intended for ________.

A.female readers B.students

C.teenagers D.best friends

It doesn’t matter to fail as long as you don’t give up. To my opinion, it is hard to be successful. Challenges were a necessary part of your life as you grow up. And you won’t necessary succeed in everything for the first time you try. That’s okay. Some of the most successful people in the world are the one who’ve had the most failures. J. K. Rowling, wrote Harry Potter, had her first Harry Potter book reject 12 times before it was finally published. Michael Jordan was removed his high school basketball team. He lost hundreds of games and miss thousands of shots during his career. But he once said, “I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that’s because I succeed.”

The British people love talking about the weather. This hot summer, Europe was caught in the heat wave, and many parts of China were also been struggling with record-breaking temperatures. Therefore, there’s plenty for the British people to
get excited about.
But beside from a simple“hot”, what other ways are there to describe the summer heat? Apart from phrases like“boiling hot”, there are many interesting expressions that relate to unbearably hot weather.
Dog days of summer
In books and newspaper articles, the period from early July to mid-August is often referred to as the“dog days of summer”. Some think the expression means the weather is so hot that dogs go wild. But in fact, the expression comes from 16 th century and refers to the days on which Sirius(天狼星)—the Dog Star—rises at the same time as the sun. The Romans associated the hot weather with this star and would sacrifice a dog every year in April to stop the anger of Sirius.
So hot you can fry an egg on the sidewalk
This expression needs no explanation and although its origin is unclear, it hasn’t stopped thousands of curious tourists from testing if the saying is true, with the result that sidewalks in Death Valley, California—the hottest place in the US—are now littered with broken eggshells. Early in July, the local government asked tourists to stop their cooking experiments. Even so, it is actually possible to fry an egg on the sidewalk, so long as you use a frying pan with a lid and the temperature is at least 49℃.
(1)What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.Some expressions about hot weather.
B.The heat wave in the world.
C.Sirius is associated with the hot weather.
D.Death Valley—the hottest place in the US.
(2)According to the passage, how long does“dog days of summer”last?
A.About one month.
B.About two months.
C.About two months and a half.
D.About one month and a half.
(3)What caused broken eggshells littered around sidewalks in Death Valley?
A.The hot weather.
B.The curiosity of tourists.
C.The permission of the local government.
D.The origin of the expression.
(4)Which of the following is NOT necessary to test the last expression about hot weather?
A.On the sidewalk.
B.A frying pan with a lid.
C.The temperature(≥49℃).
D.In the hottest place.

【题目】Have you ever felt like you are not given the kind of respect you deserve? In one way or another, all of us have felt this way. We’ve yearned(渴望) to be looked at as an authority, someone people look up to and trust. We’re not taught in school how to do this and our parents didn’t tell us the secret on how to establish our authority. It’s something we learn and gain by ourselves. And the answer is as simple as changing our mindset. What? No way! Oh but it is. People tend to underestimate the power of the mind. Change your game by changing your mind.

Take time to look back and think about people in your life who are an authority or a leader at work, who has more credibility(可信度) than you or who you look up to and inspires you. They are up there not for the reasons you think. If you really think about it, they aren't the smartest of the bunch, not the most educated, and neither are they the best. And in no way do they even call themselves an expert. Instead, they are up there because they are great teachers and advocates(支持者) for the success of their customers or employees.

Let’s take Richard Simmons for example. This famous fitness personality has been a household name ever since he started gaining popularity during the first few years of his career. Stop and think, though, do you really think he is the best person to really get people into shape? Is he the Einstein of fitness and nutrition? Or does he even call himself a master of his craft? Of course not. People look up to him and give him authority because he is a great educator. Instead of sharing information that’s far too complicated to understand, he figures out what your problems are and finds out a way to fix them. He even has social media that he updates on a regular basis with topics that are helpful and easy to understand for his fans and followers.

Depending on the field you’re in, you can share with people things you know and that you think they will want to know as well. If you’re a nurse, for example, you can make a blog post for common health problems and quick remedies(治疗方法) people can do at home. Remember, the simpler you can make it, the better. People will trust you completely if you give them easy solutions. Like Richard, you’ll soon be the expert you’ll want to listen to. You can be an advocate also by showing people that you have their best interests at heart. You can also start up conferences to take up people’s concerns and try to deal with them the best way that you can.

So, how will you be viewed as an authority? Make that mind shift. Find out what concerns and troubles your target. Give solutions. Show that you care. And help them climb up that ladder of success. Ladies and gentlemen, that’s how it’s done.

1What can we know about Richard Simmons?

A. He is as intelligent as Einstein.

B. He believed himself to be a master of fitness.

C. He became popular in the first few years of his career.

D. He shares complex information with his fans and followers.

2The example of a nurse in Paragraph 4 is used to tell us ________.

A. the importance of trust

B. the pleasure of being a nurse

C. the ways of becoming an authority

D. the benefits of learning first aid

3Which of the following would the author most probably agree with?

A. People always think highly of the power of the mind.

B. You can gain the knowledge of becoming an authority at school.

C. People considered as authorities are those with higher education.

D. Providing easy solutions for people can help increase your credibility.

4Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?(P=paragraph)

A. B.

C. D.
