Maria was afraid that she was going to have to deliver a bad news to her friend Freddy. She was upsetting about the news herself. In the spring, Maria’s mother had said Maria might be allowed bring a friend along on the family two-week vacation at the beach. Since then, Maria and Freddy had been doing nothing and planning all the thing they would do together. By the time August had arrived, Maria’s mother had total forgotten her promise.
