【原文】

W: Ten years ago, everyone in China carried around a lot of cash with them. Credit cards were still not common, and most sellers did not have machines to accept bank cards. Nowadays, credit cards are still not as common as they are in the West, but China has advanced past the Western world in one respect: nearly everyone who has a smart phone in China also has an account with Alibaba.com or Wechat. Alibaba.com and Wechat are two of China’s largest and most successful Internet companies. Alipay and Wechat Pay can be linked to a bank account. Sending and receiving money is as simple as a few touches on a phone. And China is rapidly becoming a cashless society. Even people on the corner selling street snacks accept mobile payments these days. Using your phone as your wallet is much safer than carrying a lot of cash with you, and it’s easier to keep track of how much you spend. It is only a matter of time before Wechat Pay and Alipay begin to challenge the American company Paypal for customers outside China. At least for now, China is setting a pretty good example.

【题目】 Much meaning can be conveyed clearly with our eyes, so it is often said that eyes can speak.

1In a bus you may look at a stranger, but not for too long. And if he sensed that you are staring at him, he may feel uncomfortable.

The same is true in our daily life. If you are stared at for more than necessary, you will look at yourself up and down to see if there is anything wrong with you. 2. Eyes do speak, right

Looking too long at someone may seem to be rude and aggressive.3. If a man stares at a woman for more than 10 seconds and refuses to look away from her, his intentions are obvious. He wishes to attract her attention, and let her know that he is admiring her.

However, when two persons are engaged in a conversation, the speaker will only look into the listener’s eyes from time to time to make sure that the listener does pay attention to what the former is speaking.4 If a speaker looks at you continuously when speaking as if he is trying to control you, you will feel awkward. A poor liar usually exposes himself by looking too long at the victim.

5 On the contrary, it will give him away.

Actually, eye contact should be made based on specific relationship and situation.

A.If nothing goes wrong, you will feel annoyed at being stared at that way.

B.That’s what normal eye contact is all about.

C.Actually, continuous eye contact is limited to lovers only.

D.Do you have such a kind of experience?

E.But things are different when it comes to staring at the opposite sex.

F.He wrongly believes that looking straight in the eye is a sign of honest communication.

G.After all, nobody likes to be stared at for quite a long time.

【题目】In Stressful Times, Make Stress Work for You

These are stressful times. Fortunately, we can actually use that stress to improve our health and well-being. Over a decade of research suggests that it’s not the type or amount of stress that determines its impact. 1.

Step 1: Acknowledge Your Stress

Labeling your stress consciously and deliberately moves neural activity from the amygdala — the center of emotion and fear — to the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for executive control and planning.

In other words, when we take a moment to acknowledge our stress, it moves us from operating from a fearful, reactive place to a position where we can be thoughtful and deliberate.

2.

Step 2: Own Your Stress

The next step is to welcome, or “own,” your stress. We only stress about things that we care about. 3. If we deny or avoid our stress, we my actually be denying or disconnecting ourselves from the things we value and treasure most.

Step 3:4

Connecting to the core values behind your stress sets you up for the third and most essential step: using or leveraging stress to achieve your goals and connect more deeply with the things that matter most.

Ask yourself: Are your typical responses in alignment with the values behind your stress? Think about how you might change your response to this stress to achieve your goals and your purpose.

There’s so much happening right now that we can’t control. 5. Some psychologists argue that true transformative change can occur only during stress or crises. The trick is to channel your coronavirus stress as energy to make the most of this time.

A.Use Your Stress

B.Release Your Stress

C.By owning our stress, we connect to the positive motivation or personal value behind our stress.

D.But — as many people are noticing — there are also unprecedented opportunities.

E.Instead, it’s our mind-set about stress that matters most.

F.But later, we will be able to ask ourselves how we each responded to this crisis.

G.This step is also an opportunity to understand what’s at the heart of your personal stress or anxiety.
