　　Wang Xuan, whose hometown was in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, was born in Shanghai in February 1937．He graduated from Peking University in 1958, and later worked there as a professor and was in charge of the Computer Academy of Peking University．He devoted all his life to computer science and invented the laser photo typesetting system for Chinese characters, for which he was called the “Modern Bi Sheng”and in 2001 he was given the State Top Science and Technology Award．

　　Wang Xuan died of illness in Beijing on February 13, 2006, at the age of 69．The Chinese people will remember him forever for his contributions to China’s computer science．
