It is natural for young people to blame their parents for most of the misunderstandings between them. They have always complained(抱怨),more or less justly, that their parents are out of touch with modern ways; that they always want to control them; that they do not trust them to deal with problems; and that they have no sense of humor, at least in parent-child relationships.

Young people often irritate their parents with their choices in clothes, hairstyles, and music. Actually this is not what they really intend to do. They feel cut off from the adult world into which they have not yet been accepted. So they create a culture and society of their own. Then, if it turns out that their music or clothes or hairstyles make their parent angry, this gives them additional enjoyment. They feel they are better, at least in a small way, and that they are leaders in style and taste.

Sometimes you do not obey orders, and are proud because you do not want your parents to say yes to what you do. If they do, it looks as if you are unfaithful to your own age group. But in that case, you will probably think that you are the underdog: you can’t win but at least you can keep your honor. This is a passive way of looking at things. It is natural enough after long years of childhood, when you were completely under your parent’s control. If you plan to control your life, co-operation can be part of that plan. You can persuade others, especially your parents, into doing things the way you want. Get them to feel your sense of responsibility(责任) and initiative(进取心) so that they will allow you to do what you want to do.

A.to make someone excited

B.to make someone angry

3.Children choose to have certain strange clothes and hairstyles because they ______.

A. want to show their existence by creating a culture of their own

B.have a strong desire to be leaders in style and taste

C.have no other way to enjoy themselves better

D.want to make their parents angry

4.Children do not want their parents to say yes to whatever they do because they ______.

A.have already been accepted into the adult world

B.feel that they are better in a small way than the adults

C.are not likely to win over the adults

D.have a desire to be independent

It is time for students to sell such things as chocolate bars and greeting cards to raise money for their school, class or club. It is inevitable that they will knock on your door and you will easily hand ever your cash for overpriced items that you really do not want. That is okay, though, because there are many reasons why children should be allowed to raise money for their schools and clubs.
Fundraising(自筹资金) is a great way to help children learn social skills. It is not easy to go up to a complete stranger and ask them for their money. They have to nicely ask for help, show the interested buyer what they have to offer and explain how it will help them in school. If someone refuses to buy an item, that child has to take the failure in stride(从容处理), and that is a learning lesson as well.
Students can learn how to deal with money by fundraising. Of course, it might seem safer for us to take charge of our children’s earnings from their fundraising before it is turned in to the school. However, by making them keep track of it, count it, and make sure everyone pays the right amount, they are learning an important lesson. Dealing with money is important to know about when they are older.
Fundraising helps improve their schools. It is the child’s school. They have to learn there and grow there. Why not let them help in making it a better place? When one of our local schools lacked funding for sports, the students and parents joined hands to raise that money needed. When they succeeded, they felt they accomplished something important.
Fundraising allows for more life experiences for the child. Most fundraising is done for individual classes and clubs. The raised money is used towards things like parties, trips. The children receive the rewards for their hard work at raising the money. Without fundraising, these field trips and special school memories would be missed.
In a word, fundraising helps children a lot in many ways.

It is reported that conservation groups in North America have been arguing about the benefits and
dangers of wolves. Some groups believe wolves should be killed.Other people believe wolves must be
protected so that they will not disappear from the wilderness(荒野).
     For Killing Wolves
In Alaska, the wolf almost disappeared a few years ago, because hunters were killing hundreds
of them for sport. However, laws were established to protect the wolves from sportsmen and people
who catch the animals for their fur.So the wolf population has greatly increased. Now there are so many
wolves that they are destroying their own food supply.
A wolf naturally eats animals in the deer family.People in the wilderness also hunt deer for food. Many
of the animals have been destroyed by the very cold winters recently and by changes in the wilderness
plant life. When the deer can't find enough food, they die.
If the wolves continue to kill large numbers of deer, their prey(猎物)will disappear some day.And
the wolves will, too. So we must change the cycle of life in the wilderness to balance the ecology. If we
killed more wolves,we would save them and their prey from dying out. We'd also save some farm
animals.
In another northern state, wolves attack cows and chickens for food.Farmers want the government
to send biologists to study the problem. They believe it necessary to kill wolves in some areas and to
protect them in places where there is a small wolf population.
     Against Killing Wolves
If you had lived long ago,you would have heard many different stories about the dangerous wolf.
According to most stories, hungry wolves often kill people for food.Even today, the stories of the“big
bad wolf”will not disappear.
But the fact is wolves are afraid of people, and they seldom travel in areas where there is a human
smell. When wolves eat other animals, they usually kill the very young,or the sick and injured. The
strongest survive. No kind of animal would have survived through the centuries if the weak members had
lived. That has always been a law of nature.
Although some people say it is good sense to kill wolves,we say it is nonsense!Researchers have
found wolves and their prey living in balance. The wolves keep the deer population from becoming too
large, and that keeps a balance in the wilderness plant life.
The real problem is that the areas where wolves can live are being used by people.Even if wilderness
land is not used directly for human needs, the wolves can't always find enough food.So they travel to
the nearest source,which is often a farm.Then there is danger.The“big bad wolf”has arrived!And
everyone knows what happens next.

1. According to the passage, some people in North America favor killing wolves for all the following
    reasons EXCEPT that________.

A. there are too many wolves
B. they kill large numbers of deer
C. they attack cows and chickens for food
D. they destroy the wilderness plant life

2. Some people are against killing wolves because________.

A. wolves help to keep the ecological balance in the wilderness
B. there is too small a wolf population in the wilderness
C. there are too many deer in the wilderness
D. wolves are afraid of people and never attack people

3. According to those against killing wolves, when wolves eat other animals,______.

A. they never eat strong and healthy ones
B. they always go against the law of nature
C. they might help this kind of animals survive in nature
D. they disturb the ecological balance in the wilderness

4. The last sentence“And everyone knows what happens next”implies that in such cases________.

A. farm animals will be in danger and have to be shipped away
B. wolves will kill people and people will in turn kill them
C. wolves will find enough food sources on farms
D. people will leave the areas where wolves can live

It is hardly surprising that clothing manufacturers (生产商)follow certain uniform standards for various
features(特征)of clothes. What seems strange, however,is that the standard adopted for women is the
opposite of the one for men.Take a look at the way your clothes button.Men's clothes tend to button
from the right, and women's from the left.Considering most of the world's population-men and women-are
righthanded, the men's standard would appear to make more sense for women. So why do women's clothes
button from the left?
History really seems to matter here.Buttons first appeared only on the clothes of the rich in the 17th
entury, when rich women were dressed by servants. For the mostly righthanded servants, having women's
shirts button from the  left would be easier. On the other hand, having men's shirts button from the right
made sense, too. Most men dressed themselves, and a sword drawn from the left with the right hand would
be less likely to get caught in the shirt.
Today women are seldom dressed by servants, but buttoning from the left is still the standard for them.
Is it interesting? Actually, a standard, once set, resists change. At a time when all women's shirts buttoned
from the left,it would have been risky for any single manufacturer to offer women's shirts that buttoned
from the right. After all, women had grown so used to shirts which buttoned from the left and would have
to develop new habits and skills to switch.Besides, some women might have found it socially awkward to
appear in public wearing shirts that buttoned from the right, since anyone who noticed that would believe
they were wearing men's shirts.
1.What is surprising about the standard of the clothing industry?
A.It has been followed by the industry for over 400 years.
B.It is different for men's clothing and women's.
C.It works better with men than with women.
D.It fails to consider righthanded people.
2.What do we know about the rich men in the 17th century?
A.They tended to wear clothes without buttons.
B.They were interested in historical matters.
C.They were mostly dressed by servants.
D.They drew their swords from the left.
3.Women's clothes still button from the left today because____.
A.adopting men's style is improper for women
B.manufacturers should follow standards
C.modern women dress themselves
D.customs are hard to change
4.The passage is mainly developed by________.
A.analyzing causes
B.making comparisons
C.examining differences
D.following the time order
