The words of Gandhi, Einstein and other great thinkers are to be quoted in service announcements on London’s Underground.

Transport for London has asked Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller to edit a list of mottos to be used by tube drivers.Gandhi’s “there is more to life than increasing its speed” and the artist Cezanne’s “we live in a rain-bow of chaos” are among the quotes.Deller hopes they will make passengers’ journeys a bit more thought-provoking(发人深省的).

Deller’s original plan was to abolish all public announcements for a day.“It makes me feel annoyed,” he said.“It’s like some psychological warfare(战争 ) on the passengers.”

But his idea was refused by the manager of Transport for London, who instead agreed to the plan of replacing some announcements with something more human and attractive.

Sally Shaw, who is running the scheme for Transport for London, says it is part of an attempt to improve day-to-day interaction and rely less on automated announcements.

“I think everyone has their own little philosophy on their journeys. And if we can get more of that out in the air, that would be great,” she said.

Susy Wells, one of the drivers to test the idea out on the London Underground, is also enthusiastic about it.

She said, “I like to make my own announcements and it’s nice to get passengers to think as well.”

What’s more, some quotes are helpful to the drivers. They help the passengers become more understanding about the drivers’ work.

The quotes such as Thomas Fuller’s “a stumble(绊脚) may prevent a fall” are popular for helping explain why a little inconvenience was sometimes necessary to keep the system safe.

D.All public announcements are not suitable for the passengers.

55.The reason why the sayings are to be quoted on London’s Underground is ______.

Malnutrition (营养失调)remains a serious problem for India. But a new study shows that India’s leading causes of death now also include diseases related to obesity (肥胖)such as heart disease.

India’s National Family Health Survey shows that more than twenty percent of Indians living in cities are overweight or obese. And in the northwestern state of Punjab, that is true for almost forty percent of women.

Aradhna Tripathi is a business professional in New Delhi. She said, “ Eating is the most important thing in any Indian household and how you show your love and gratitude(感激) for a person is through the kind of food you serve him. And the kind of lifestyle we are leading is one of the reasons why we have the number of obese people increasing every day.

But Aradhna Tripathi says she has decided to lose weight. Her mother and grandmother are also diabetic(患糖尿病的). In fact, the International Diabetes Federation says India is now the diabetes capital of the world. Researchers say Indians store more body fat per kilogram than Europeans. That means obese Indians are even more at the risk of diabetes than other people.

Doctor Anoop Misra at Fortis Hospital in New Delhi says the risk of diabetes is crossing social and economic lines. Five years ago, he says, obesity and diabetes were limited to India’s richest people, but now things have changed.

But Doctor Misra is hopeful that the spread (蔓延,传播)of obesity can be slowed. And he says it must start in schools by giving all Indian children the same instruction on physical activity and diet.

The World Health Organization says China is also moving up in obesity rates. The estimate (估计) has reached about five percent countryside and as high as twenty percent in some cities.

What is this passage mainly about?

"Yes, but what did we use to do before there was television?" How often we hear statements like this! Television hasn't been with us all that long, but we are already beginning to forget what the world was like without it. Before we admit the one-eyed monster into our homes,  we never found it difficult to occupy our spare time. We used to enjoy civilized pleasures. For instance, we used to have hobbies, we used to entertain our friends and be entertained by them, we used to go outside for our amusements to theaters, cinemas, restaurants and sporting events. We even used to read books and listen to music and broadcast talk occasionally. All that belongs to the past. Now all our free time is regulated by the "goggle-box". We rush home or gulp down(吞咽)our meals to be in time for this or that program. We have even given up sitting at table and having a leisurely evening meal, exchanging the news of the day. A sandwich and a glass of beer will do-anything providing it doesn't interfere with the program. The monster demands and obtains absolute silence and attention. If any member of the family dares to open his mouth during a program, he is quickly silenced.

The whole generations are growing up addicted to the telly (television). Food is left uneaten, homework undone and sleep is lost. The telly is universal pacifier(抚慰者).It is now standard practice for mother to keep the children quiet by putting them in the living-room and turning on the set.It doesn’t matter that the children will watch rubbishy commercials or violence-so long as they are quiet.

There is little limit to the amount of creative talent available in the world. Television consumes vast quantities of creative work. That is why most of programs are bad:  it is impossible to keep pace with the demand and maintain high standards as well. When millions watch the same programs,  the whole world becomes a village, and society is reduced to the conditions which obtain in preliterate(无文字的)communities. We become completely dependent on the two most primitive media of communication: pictures and the spoken word.

Television encourages passive enjoyment. We become content with secondhand experiences. It is so easy to sit in our armchairs watching others working. Little by little, television cuts us off from the real world. We got so lazy; we choose to spend a fine day in semi-darkness, glued to our sets, rather than go out into the world itself. Television may be a splendid medium of communication, but it prevents us from communicating with each other. We only become aware how totally irrelevant television is to real living when we spend a holiday by the sea or in the mountain, far away from civilization. In quiet, natural surroundings, we quickly discover how little we miss the repetitive oppression of King Telly.

According to this passage, which of the following statements is NOT true?

A. We used to have hobbies and go to theaters and sporting events.

B. We have a leisurely evening meal and exchange the news when we watch TV.

C. We quickly finish our meals so as to be in time for TV programs.

D. We are usually silent and attentive in front of TV.

The main idea of the second paragraph is to show that_____.

A. children are very noisy

B. TV is full of rubbishy commercials or violence

C. television disturbs our sleep

D. the whole generations are fascinated with TV

Which is the best title for this passage?

A. Television Encourages Passive Enjoyment

B. Television Is Doing Irreparable(不能挽回的)harm

C. Television Is a Universal Pacifier

D. We Can't Live Without TV

This passage is an article of_____.
